I've been creating rock borders to edge my garden beds. I am hoping this helps address problems with the edges collapsing and staying nice. My preferred rocks are Vigoro River Pebbles and Vigoro Creek Rock from Home Depot.

Beautiful! I have a tip for gravel areas. I found success with a gravel path in my back yard, and I think it turned out easy to maintain because I didn't use any landscape fabric, but instead the underlayer is that paver base stuff. It looks like gray sand. It's like such tiny rocks it's sand or something. I don't know, but what I did was I dug down the soil and removed several inches. I forget how many inches, but let's say 3-5 inches maybe? But the main thing is using enough paver base under the gravel. My path has the paver base directly on the soil (after digging out the trench for it to sit in) and then on top of the paver base, gravel right on top. I notice weeds do come up, but it's few and they are easy to pull 99% of the time. I think the key is NO weed fabric and nothing similar. And the other key is enough paver base layer and enough gravel on top. We put square pavers in the gravel, too, but I suppose that's optional. All of this sits inside black plastic edging, just to keep the edges from spilling into the lawn too much, since it's a path. My husband mows next to that black plastic edge (it's a hard plastic you stake into the ground). I notice this is the easiest rock area for me to maintain. Few weeds come through, but ones who do are easy easy to pull! The areas where I don't use paver base or where I use landscape fabric are very hard for me to maintain. Anyway, I hope that helps someone out there! I think it's a nice way to do it for maintenance purposes. Mine is a path, but I think it could apply to edge a garden, too.

Hi Michelle! Your stones look nice and white. I ended up pulling mine out, they all turned green from algae in the shade. BTW echo has a string trimmer that you put in 2 8” pieces of string at a time. No more spool that refuses to work. I always got frustrated with a spool that never releases string no matter how hard I would slam it on the ground.

Thank you! I will def check out this string trimmer. I get so frustrated that I have to change mine so much. Do you find you change the string less now?

I think those look really nice! I wonder if there is some kind of natural / porous spackle or something that you could use to fill in the rocks? Something that would block weeds from coming through but still allow air/moisture through? I don't know if that exists... Love these though, there is something really zen and calming about curved borders - they must have good chi.
