ROCK GONE WRONG. Rock/metalcore (pop?) band A Day To Remember sign their souls away on “You’re Welcome”, the long delayed 7th album. Here’s my brutally honest album review of the insipid madness, a record that sees one of the scene’s most consistent acts high diving into an empty pool. Thanks for nothing, you’re welcome.

A DAY TO REMEMBER MORE LIKE A DAY TO FORGET *AMIRITE* This is the worst look I could've ever imagined for them. Common courtesy is the last great album they put out. And everyone shat on that album at first, but after listening to it for a couple weeks straight, I found myself singing to every song in that album. I absolutely hold that as their best album, IMO. Then bad vibrations occurred. It a couple good songs on it. But was not the level of pop brutality that I’ve grown to expect from ADTR. Then this album dropped. Idk what to think. Resentment is the closest thing to the ADTR we know and love. But everything else just makes me sad. Lol. Degenerates is pretty good too, got that pop punk swag to an extent and I actually enjoyed it when it dropped. But I can’t find a single song on this album besides those two that give me any satisfaction. These guys are better than this. There was no easing into this sound. It’s like they tried to go the route that BMTH went, but where BMTH succeeded, ADTR fell flat on their faces. I can only hope they go back to the real ADTR on their next album, but I honestly wonder if they’ll survive this catastrophe. Just a terrible album.

At least Last Young Renegade had cohesion and had some fairly good songs on there. While disappointing, LYR is a much better album than this. ATL also knows how to tend to their missteps (Don’t Panic following Dirty Work. WUS following LYR). Hopefully ADTR gets a reality check and can make a kickass comeback on their next release 🤷🏼‍♂️

Guess I'm in the minority here as I actually love this album. My only real complaint is the production quality but I think the songs themselves are a lot of fun personally. And I do love their old stuff as well but I found this album rather refreshing after Bad Vibrations. I think this album was just them growing up a bit and wanting to expand their horizons musically. Not sure how many people are actually giving the album a fair chance as it's not your typical ADTR record but that's it's charm in my opinion. Listen to it with a good pair of headphones and an open mind and you'll hear all kinds of intricacies in the backgrounds that really help bring this album to life.

Wow, I hated every single they released on the run up to this album. My expectations were non-existent. And still I was disappointed. I thought the album Architects just released was bad, but it has nothing on this. I don't remember the last time I heard production this bad on an album-the vocals are drowned in an ocean of distortion and buried behind badly EQed guitars and programmed drum loops. The lyrics are terrible, and any time something instrumentally interesting does happen, like the guitar solo on Bloodsucker, or the bassline on the second verse of Permanent, it's buried in the mix. Permanent was probably my favourite song on the album because of the drumming and a surprisingly rich number of layered guitar parts. The build up to the breakdown also worked really well. I think Brick Wall is one of the worst things I've ever heard.

Man, I was really nervous for this album coming out when Resentment and Degenerates came out. Degenerates has some lines that I feel are just whiny or lazy "like it ain't hard enough simply being me" and then the breakdown moment where they say it'll "hit like a brick," feels so unrewarding from that buildup. With Resentment I felt I was maybe being a little to harsh with their change and gave them the "their trying something new" card. The song that really brought hope for me with this album is Mindreader. I thought it was a good change, but the familiarity was there. The guitar riffs are catchy and the chorus had me going back to it so many times. The rest of the album to me is just a mess lyrically along with the other things mentioned. Bloodsucker with the line about the person killing his "vibe" kills me. I'm like, did I just walk into a Kesha song 🤷‍♂️. I can at least say they weren't afraid to experiment even with the end result. I just think they need a clearer picture of what they want because the album is all over the place.

I don’t even know what to say. ADTR is one of my favorite bands of all time, but this record is just plain awful. There is not even ONE song that I love. Every track on here is worse than any song they’ve ever put out prior. The only passible songs IMO are Mindreader, Degenerates, Permanent, Last Chance to Dance, and Resentment (which I don’t like nearly as much as other fans seem to). Hell, Rescue Me is way better than any track at appears on this album. Viva La Mexico is probably the worst song they’ve ever released. They honestly should’ve just put out the album in November of 2019 like they were supposed to and then right around now start releasing singles from their next album. Bad Vibes kind of faded with me over the past half decade but damn it is still worlds better than this. 2/5.

I 100% agree with you on Looks Like Hell. The chorus/bridge is actually extremely well done, but that intro/verse was total ass. The chorus is so dynamic that they could have wrote literally anything else in place of that dog shit attempt of a verse. The options were endless but they decided on that for fuck knows why. I even don't mind the synth part, but those verses destroy the song for me. Man they fucked up bad on this album.

I quit giving a shit about this band after Common Courtesy. To me that should’ve been the last album and then they should’ve just called it quits. Now they’re making straight pop music, barely resembling the band I knew and loved in the early days of the modern post hardcore era. Fuck A Day To Remember, this album is one to forget.

this album was just a mess. the only song i enjoyed was Last Chance to Dance... but even then its not good. especially when you realize they ripped off post malone. the chorus is basically "Better now". im all for bands changing their sound but that doesnt mean they get a free pass. this album is huge swing and a miss.

You’re Welcome is genuinely one of the worst albums I’ve ever listened to, and I have been a huge longtime ADTR fan. A lot of people are trying to “blame” the label here because of FBR’s reputation of being “poppy” or “mainstream”. Yet, All Time Low released arguably their best album to date on this label within the last year. Even LYR, while a bit of experimental misstep, it was consistent even if it’s my least favorite ATL album. Paramore has always been amazingly consistent even when experimenting with their sound, and they’ve been on FBR from the jump. Bands always tend to experiment their sounds when signing to new labels. I am all for bands evolving their sound and experimenting, when done right (i.e. After Laughter). ADTR knew what they were doing. This is an embarrassing attempt at reaching for mainstream audiences and sounds. This is the definition of “selling out”, or just straight up laziness, in my opinion. In no way did the band actually believe their fan base would be on board here. Personally, I think they peaked with Common Courtesy, and I don’t think they’ll ever reach those heights again, especially if this is the direction they are choosing to head towards.
@jodyxgraves
@jodyxgraves 3 года назад
FBR could have had something to do with it, but i'm also not so sure. take nothing,nowhere. for example. they signed him and he still practically has full creative control minus a few quotas to reach and his music shows how he still decides what comes out and what doesn't.
@kct412
@kct412 3 года назад
@@jodyxgraves Right. My main thought process behind the whole “was it the label?” thing is that even if FBR wanted ADTR to have a more polished mainstream sound, the band is still capable of producing good music. Fans of artists just want to point the blame to other sources rather than hold the artists themselves accountable. I’m by no means saying I know or understand the behind the scenes, but a band with the credibility and popularity of ADTR, I believe would have a say in how their music should sound. So, I truly think that while the band may have had some label influence, at the end of the day, they ultimately chose to go this route and it produced some bad bad songs. They are capable of so much better than this. We as fans have to accept and understand that.
@jodyxgraves

@@kct412 it is what it is ig, rock bands tend to be a little behind on what's ACTUALLY popular in music right now. BMTH isn't included in this i think all their work is incredible.

@kct412 3 года назад
@@jodyxgraves BMTH is the number one example of a rock band who’s been able to change their sound and do it right. That’s the Spirit is one of my all-time favorite albums. amo was great, and then they were able to combine all of their best elements for Post Human. BMTH is the absolute blueprint for this. More bands should learn from them. It’s quite incredible how they do it so well.
