In this part 5 of a short series, Geoff goes over machining the breech end of a new Shilen barrel for a classic 1903 bolt action rifle that has been fit and chambered for a traditional 30-06 SPRG chambering. The breech will be machined for it's rather large extractor cut and fitting under final torque. Once test fired - the breech will be qualified for advancement to the next stages of rifle production here at Accurate Rifles and Restorations!

Cool thing about the 1903 is that it was designed to single feed without using the magazine, so there is no potential of breaking the extractor like you would on Mausers

Didn't quite compute how you arrive at depth of cut. Could you point me to how you came up with that? Thanks in advance. I've got a 03 and a NOS GI barrel I need to put on it.

We're not really in the business of teaching here, more to show our skillset and quality of work. But, this particular job was more "thread to fit" (keep increasing depth until it fits properly). Square threads are a different animal... Thank you for watching and engaging the channel!!
