Suzi Quatro deserves FAR more recognition than she has ever received, especially here in the States. Back in the mid 70’s, I played her songs like “Can The Can” at a dinky little college radio station, WGVU-FM in Dubuque, Iowa. Our listeners would often call up & request her songs, saying how much they liked the sound of her bass playing. Maybe NOW, in 2020, the rest of the world will FINALLY catch up with Suzi!

The very first concert I attended was Alice Cooper's Welcome To My Nightmare with opening act Suzi Quatro. My friend wasn't much of a Cooper fan but he loved Quatro. We both knew every song on her debut album when we went to the concert. I was on the floor and got fairly close to the stage. I was start struck. Plus I must say, Suzi was a bit of a looker. I have not heard those songs in years so I just played the whole album, I don't remember all the words but I certainly remember all of the songs. Thanks for the memories. Was fun to catch up.

I am probably the only guy in US that knew who she was before Happy Days. Edit around 6:30 think that riff is on Alice Cooper Schools Out album someplace. If you are into bass that's another great one, Dennis Dunaway

Thats a shame actually; that her success in the UK and Australia didnt translate into success in her homeland. She should have been just as big in the US.

Dirk, I hate to break your soul like mine was thrashed, but not everything you THINK is Dunaway was actually Dennis on record. Studio musicians (the same guys that recorded The Partridge Family and The Archies albums) were pretty much the entire School's Out and Muscle of Love albums' staff, except for Vincent Furnier, of course...

Ha! Not the only one! My family was stationed in Izmir, Turkey in 1974 and they played "48 Crash" and "Can the Can" in the discos (Turkish version of a night club w/ dj) as well as "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet and "Burn" and "Might Just Take Your Life" by Deep Purple. This was my sr. year of high school--I graduated in '75, came back to the states, and it was right in the middle if the Disco era---aaaccckkk!!

Suzi Quatro was huge here in Canada throughout the seventies. Every weekend party we went to was not a party at all if Quatro wasn't on the turntable.

I already played bass when Suzi became famous in Germany, I was maybe 14 years old and played my first bass, a Hoefner 182 short scale. The Precision on Suzi looked so big, but I had more eyes for the girl in leather clothes than for the bass. She is a legend, and I would lie if I'd say, that she didn't have some influence on my playing.

respect to Suzi, she is 5ft tall, playing a guitar with a 34" scale length ,that's a hell of a stretch for little hands.

Donald Cummings I have small hands and I play bass. I had some trouble at the beginning, but now (after 7 years) I can play it almost easily. My teacher gave me a lot of stretching exercises to do week after week

@@donaldcummings8407it does not matter really, look at Carol Kaye. Its the left hand thumb pivoting on the back of the neck of guitar that gives huge travel distance for the other fingers. Try it, believe me, it works.

Her voice was way deeper than I expected! Love her so much and it's super cool her first instrument was bongos, very underrated instument. And what a gorgeous bass guitar! Love Stagger Lee.

You are so right Suzi about the Bass and Drums relationship. With the right drummer our partnership would be the backbone and subliminal driving force of the band.
