@sdbruns That's normal. There's a muting relay inside the jukebox amplifier. The speakers are switched on about one second after the needle makes contact with the record. This is to prevent unwanted noise (droping of the needle, needle sliding into the groove). Normally the music starts after that. Maybe your relay is sticking. If the first seconds of the song are missing, you can adjust the set-down point of the needle (see manual). You should also check the tone arm keeper spring (see manual).
