This is a relatively safe and easily restorable modification preformed on a Rock-Ola 450. It would also apply to all models using the same same mechanism.
I will not be held liable for any damage your big fumbling butterfingers may cause to your jukebox. As always, consult your service manual if you have any questions.

Thanks for posting! I was just about to order a dinking kit. Now, I don't have to worry about damage to some old collectible small hole 45s.

Great tip. Not too many 7" records play at 33 anymore but almost all UK 45's come with small holes--so it's great to be able to mix them in with the large hole US 45s.

I am working on a 418 s . The gripper arm places the record approx. 1/8 of an inch off center. The record therefore falls off center and won't play. Is there a way to have the gripper arm adjusted? I want to play 45's . Also, the little red prongs disappear when the record is placed on the turntable. Will the method you show in the video allow the red prongs to stay up stabilizing the record??? Thanks

Tough to diagnose something like this without being able to see what's going on. From the sound of it I'd say your mech is either hanging up or out of adjustment. Have you tried cleaning and oiling up the mech? Pay particular attention to the shaft/piston that positions the gripper arm. (and the gears to the front of it) I'd say 75% chance that resolves the problem for you. Especially if the machine was working fine prior to a period of dormancy.

Hi John. Thanks for the tips you put up here. I was able to remove the mechanism safely as per your instructions but I've run into a separate problem. Any chance I can email you?
