The first time I saw Luke Spiller was one of the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts. He was wonderful! So I looked him up and found The Struts. I'm such a fan!!! My husband and I went to see them in Stateline, Nevada (Lake Tahoe) at the beginning of December. They were amazing live!!! Like Spiller just keeps everyone moving and participating in the concert. He's so dynamic, charismatic, and energetic! SO much fun!!! 🎉
Luke is a modern day rockstar for sure! Amazing talent. I saw them a little more than a month ago in Denver and they put on a fantastic show. Unfortunately Luke's voice was giving out a bit and he couldn't hit some high notes but he pushed through it to the end like a champ. Great band, great talent and great band. Thanks for watching!!
As Wade mentions The Struts are fantastic live and it will all make sense when you have seen how magnetic Luke is! I've seen them play almost 30 times and it's still not enough!
Just saw them last night in Denver. Amazing performers, especially Luke Spiller. That guy's got energy and charisma to spare. Unfortunately his voice went out early on so he couldn't reach a lot of the notes. However, I still had a lot of fun and the band sounded great. A+ to Luke for showing a lot of heart and going through with the show instead of canceling.
@@MusicMentionsReal same in tulsa. Theyve got to quit doing 4 and 5 nights in a row. This is a stretch where they are playing 9 shows in 10 days. If hes not careful he will destroy his voice like steven tyler or paul stanley
@@scotthoffman6249 Totally agree. Their schedule is way to aggressive for the type of show they do. They have Salt Lake City tonight and Boise the next day. I have no idea how Luke is going to manage these shows based on what I heard last night.
Incredible album. 10/10 for me. On first listen I was more around an 8 or a 9 probably, but this thing just keeps getting better and better. Even the song that was a bit of a miss for me the first time, Hands On Me, has really grown on me now. This 100% needs to be played loud, crank whatever it is up to 11. For my money, Remember The Name is the best of the bunch. Cannot get it out of my head. I love Do What You Want and it is incredible live, but I do agree it is a touch too much with the harmonies in the chorus. I still love it though. I actually got to hear it live back in 2020 when it seemed to be on track for a single release that year before COVID hit. It also used to be called Nobody Does It Like You instead of Do What You Want. Gimme Some Blood I also think is one of the strongest on the record and I think it is just about going for broke in the pursuit or rock n roll and maybe even being a bit down and out. I get a similar feeling with the lyrics to It's A Long Way To The Top by AC/DC, but with more of the tone that they've been on that journey for a long time (which they have), rather than just at the beginning. There's no true miss for me on this record, just good songs and great songs. While the lyrics are still nothing too insightful, they are definitely more deep at times than normal for The Struts and at least very honest about the dark side of being in a band, yet still very fun most of the time. One other important part about listening to this loud is so that you can really hear the bass . Jed is nailing it this record in my opinion. Again 10/10, this thing just bangs start to finish.
Just a great reply!! The album truly gets better with every listen. It's just something that is missing from our current musical landscape that deserves such recognition. I'm also really digging Gimme Some Blood, that chorus just slays. Also agree about the bass, the bottom end sound on this album is exceptional and provides a lot of the album's energy. Rock on brother!
@@MusicMentionsRealAbsolutely man! Enjoy their concert in a few weeks! Have you seen them before? I’ll be going this Friday, can’t wait to hear some of the new stuff. Also curious if you’ll review the new Dirty Honey album that dropped on the same day as Pretty Vicious? That song Don’t Put Out The Fire is quite good.
@@MusicMentionsReal Oh man you’re in for a treat. The Struts are the best live band in the game. The Darkness are the only other act I’ve seen come close.
Struts are a great live band. and if the media gave real rock a chance The Struts would for sure be a bigger band here in the US. This out of their 4, is my second favorite from them. I'd ike to see a little harder rock from them, as i am sure they could pull it off.
I saw them play last year in Denver. They know how to put on a great show and it's obvious that they have a lot of fun playing. I would love to hear something more aggressive from them in the future as well. Hopefully they catch a little more fire in the US, they're seriously underrated and ignored by a lot of the mainstream music press.
Here is something I have been wanting to share with you regarding The Struts and how they are so tied into classic 70s rock. Take for example their video Primadonna Like Me which I have provided a link to. It is about a rock and roll band having fun, a rock band indulging in all the rock world has to offer. Some 50 years earlier Grand Funk has a huge hit We're An American Band. Again that song is about a rock band having a hell of a time being rock stars. See the same similarities? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yi_QEATjgYM.html
Yep, I agree that the Struts carry that 70s rock and roll fun vibe! Somewhere along the way over the decades, rock bands forgot that they can still have fun. Although I think the 80s hair bands captured that spirit from Van Halen for a while. Love that that Grand Funk song, it never gets old!!
Thanks for watching, Michelle! I can appreciate your take. It just may not be your cup of tea or the timing of when you listened to it was wrong. I'll often listen to an new album and stop simply because the mood I was in at the time wasn't in alignment with the mood of the album. You may want to give it another try in the future and see if it clicks for you then.
@@MusicMentionsReal yes, I do that as well. After two listens not resonating. I pondered seeing them live because that brings a whole other dimension that can influence one’s opinion. Enjoy the show!
