Rock Painting - How to transfer photos onto your rock

In this tutorial, I show you how to transfer photos onto your rock. Using Mod Podge to transfer the image, you can stick the photo on to the rock, then leave it to dry over night. Once it is dry, wet it, and slowly rub it to peel off the paper, and leave the toner stuck to the rock. It is very easy to transfer images to your rock.
This is a lot of fun, it looks really cool when it's done. It is perfect for family and pet portraits, and makes a really nice and personal gift. As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments. Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss any tutorials.

I love this idea. I transfer photos as well and I tried printing on the glossy backing of mailing labels. It peels right off, saving the rubbling step. I’ll try it on rocks!

Hey I did this but struggling s what to waterproof it with. I put modgepodge on the front side to sealed it and then sprayed it w modgepodge satin clear acrylic sealer. When it get wet from rain, the pic turns cloudy. Then it dries out a few days later. Also, a few of these have gotten air or water in or under the pic after rain. Can you use reg varnish like for wood working? Need help on products for waterproofing. Thank you for your video and help!

Yes you can use wood working sealer. Modpodge is not a sealer so I wouldn’t use that. Personally I use Duraclear gloss by Americana from Michaels. You won’t be able to fix the one you did but you can always a new one and use a different sealer… have fun and thanks for watching

Where did you get the rocks and can you use photos off the ink jet printer?

The photos must be laser printed so that it works, you can take your ink jet photos somewhere to photocopy them, that will make them laser, then you can use that. 💕

Not at all, but if you want the photo to have bright colours, choose a lighter rock... sorry about your cat, I did one for my dog, and it looks really cute but thankfully he’s still with us, 💕

Sorry just saw your previous comments now... yes you can paint the rock white, yes you can use a plaster rock, for a recipe watch my video titled make a mold of your favourite rock... and yes you can do it on a stepping stone but make sure to seal it several times... hope that helps.

I’m having a hard time with the ones I made. The toner is coming off after it dried then I use the water method to start peeling the paper off. When it dries the white fuzzy paper shows up on the toner/image that’s left. Will that go away when I spray sealer on it?

What kind paper u use it draft paper 80gram? Can I make it fast dry with other kind glue?

I use regular printing paper... I only tried this type of glue, you want to make sure it stuck well so you don’t tear it when your taking the backing off

I haven’t tried those, if they use a laser printer it will work, if they use an inkjet it will run. I guess just try one as an experiment and see if it does work… I’d love to know if it does work. Thanks 😊

Yes, but it will work best with flat smooth rocks

If you mean at the end to make it glossy, of course you can. If you mean something else, please give me more detail... when did you want to use gloss on the front?

And if you have an ink jet printer and you print onto rice paper will this process work?

I haven’t tested rice paper, but I did try this process with an ink jet printer and the ink was smudged... it was a disaster, so I really don’t think rice paper will work but I didn’t try it, I might try it just out of curiosity. If I do, I will let you know 😊

That means you didn’t use enough medium to stick it down… sand this one off, and start again, this time adding more medium to stick it down all over evenly
