Ritchie Blackmore played this extraordinary solo straight wire. No extreme overdrive or delay. Very impressive. Such an immensely articulate and multidimensional player.

You described it greatly, that understanding of how gear works is something that is missing now a days which is detrimental in the way music is created

Great react- In my personal opinión the best hard rock (with some heavy metal roots, specially for power metal.) band ever.

I think Ritchie Blackmore's guitar tone during the 1970's is my favourite of all time, particularly during the Machine Head era, when it was even less distorted than it is here. It really emphasises how clean and accurate his playing was during that period because he didn't have the gain and sustain to carry him from one note to the next. It also means you hear a lot more of the nuances in his playing that get lost when tones are more saturated, more dynamics, and variations in pick attack and with fretting. I think it's something that not all modern guitar players appreciate, that someone like Blackmore didn't have all technology available in his signal chain to smooth out his sound, that is taken for granted now.

Totally agree with you, you explained it in a way I couldn't. It all comes down to dynamics and how they are an integral to the sound and performance aspect of music, Ritchie is great not just because of how fast he is but also how expressive his playing is.

My favorite guitar tones of all time are Ritchie Blackmore, Roy Buchanan, and Duane Allman they're all unique and instantly recognizable

The great Martin Birch as the producer and engineer. A legend and his sound with Maiden later in the 80s is the baseline for me.

このアルバム、当時はマーティン・バーチのプロデュースが気に入らなくて、あまり聴いていなかった。ダーク過ぎる気がしたんだよなあ。でも、メタルブー厶の時聴いたら好きになった。(笑)

Could be Cozy Powell the drummer? I am not sure but I think he is!! By the way, The last in line by Dio with built to destroy by MSG and defender of the faith were my first cassetes back around in 85 I had them hide from my parents because the bad reputation heavy stuff had in that era at least in my town in Spain, I was just only 8 years old! I still love that albums!! \m/

For some years now I've considered this the greatest song ever recorded. I've not heard anything that excites me more yet. I've never, ever gotten tired of it and I never will. It it's an absolutely perfect song. I love heavy metal, I have a heavy metal radio show, I've heard so much of it from the fastest to the heaviest, the oldest to the newest, and this is as balls out exhilarating as it gets.

I feel the exact same way, the song never goes old and it hits me the same way every time I spin it, proof of a timeless classic!!!

very articulate react/ and what an adrenalin dump that song is. I gotta say, though, Cozy Powell OWNS this one'/ Crushes.

I particularly notice on rainbow rising and long live rock and roll. The bass guitar is being drowned out. You could hardly hear it. The mix sounds off to me, especially for the poor bass guitarist. After Roger Glover joined, you finally hear the bass guitarist on the rest of Rainbow lps. Made them sound even more awesome.

Everything today is too compressed which really obfuscates the timbrality and texture of the sound. I agree with ypu 70s bands like Deep Purple, Rainbow, Allman Brothers, Traffic, Free etc had a much more layered, organic, sound. That approach allowed bands and records to have distinct sounds and styles whereas the excessive compression of modern mixes homogenizes everything and destroys nuance. Martin Birch produced this album another great producer from that era was Tom Dowd who did the Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East.

Here Ritchie also recorded the bass part as he was searching for a bass player at that time.

Bob Daisley played bass on this one and the Gates of Babylon. Ritchie Blackmore played the rest of the bass guitar on the rest of the songs.

I agree, it sounds more alive, more organic, more dynamic, more real, less plastic, less commercial, less compressed. I don't think it is a conservative attitude to want these types of sounds rather I think it is a quest to bring back the more natural sound from instruments and more organic recording and mixing processes. Luckliy today we could combine the best of the two worlds, we can record and mix natural sounds without the obstacle of tape recorders! 👍
@bardonmusic
@bardonmusic Год назад
Exactly, and we can see some attempts of coming back to this sound by bands such as Opeth whose latest releases have this kinda of approach, the question is if the audiences are open to listen to more realistic recordings after being spoiled by the über sound of modern productions
