Hands down the epitome of a hip-hop artist!! As an adolescent I saw him in an ad in a hip-hop magazine and thinking who is this? Jaý-Z (2 dots over the Z). Who is Roc-A-Fella? Fast forward I see a new magazine called XXL and here he is again!? Front cover! I'm from the South but indulge in all music. Lil Jon "Who U Wit" was sweeping GA & the southern region. Then Jay-Z drops "Who You With" and he gained a fan for life! Much love and respect and congratulations on your last achievement! This is history in the making frfr!!
Dave let the industry know with a powerful 2 word statement, "HE'S OURS!!" Jay Z reclaimed our image and rebranded it. Turned survival tactics into Black Excellence.
One of the greatest comedians inducting one of the greatest lyricists. How poetic. The epitome of excellence. Something we must always strive for. Chappelle is king.
Our little girl came home from school. She said Dad do you know about Jay Z. I said no my darling who is that. Then she said do you know who Beyonce is? I said sorry my darling i do not know who Bouncy is. She said Beyonce Dad, Beyonce, not Bouncy!!. No television, no radio, no newspapers. I said to myself I better look this person up on the net. Whoosh........ Shawn Carter defines courage and perseverance in the face of hopelessness and utter futility. Congratulations for taking the path to the right. Congratulations for inspiring, uplifting and sharing to everyone who came in contact with you. Most of all congratulations for having the faith in yourself (universal) to let in the love and cherish those around you sufficiently to realise that allowing them to love you for you fulfils both your reason for being and their destiny to leave the desert forever and never go thirsty again..........one generation.........healed in one generation...... Now that is success manifest.....that rocks!! Thank you for being you and having the conviction of belief to walk on water by stepping out....one step at a time.... on the rocks beneath the surface. All power to you and your loved ones......A big acknowledgement to your mum......a proud day for her when her baby lives to enter the rock and roll hall of fame, without the 'rock'.
I love the fact that they let ppl say lyrics that are connected to their own lives as artists. Theirs was amazing! I veryone showed put to give respect to this man and that’s down right dope. This man is so significant to our culture and to the futures of our people. Thank God he had and has the courage to do what he does.
I GOTTA ADMIT IT WHEN I HEARD DAVE CHAPPELLE SAY THAT JAY Z IS LIKE A DIAMOND UNDER PRESSURE THOSE WORDS RIGHT THERE WAS RARE AND SINCERE MY EYES GOT TEARY EYED
@@zalegalizaciju434 they are also parents of three loving children, son and daughter of 4 loving parents and loved by many, but most importantly, their human just like you….. you need to watch what you say on social media, you never know the effect that your comments and many others like you have on their children and their family members…. Show some respect if you got any in your heart
To witness his greatness, A Michigan kid from Saginaw. A cousin called me and said I got tickets to Mary J. & Jay-Z at The United Center I'm headed your way!!! I will be ready, To see Hov & Mary sing Cant knock the hustle live under MJ's Championship Banners is something I will never forget!!!!
That's the same place I saw him and he had Alicia Keys singing Empire State of Mind. I'll never forget that and I'll never forget getting to witness a living legend with tens of thousands of people in his hands rapping EVERY SINGLE WORD! 🐐
18:26 I saw him live and when this bass dropped on this the crowd went absolutely INSANE. One of the greatest intros, beats, beat drops and tracks EVER
That! He truly loves hip-hop culture and the legacy of rap to this very day. He's more famous than all of them combined but he still spent 80% of his speech praising those who came before him that inspired him and taught him how to get through the game. He acknowledged people the public doesn't even know while saying how much they influenced him. He loves hip-hop, he loves rap and he loves the game.
Growing up in Brooklyn seeing him get more and more popular, I remember seeing pictures of him being put up by the utz chip posters at the bodegas that's when he was real young
I knocked doors for Obama in 2008 and have been a JAY-Z fan since Reasonable Doubt dropped. (Even though I was 8 and didn't understand the stories I loved the storytelling. I've been a writer my entire life and have hip-hop tattooed over my heart). So seeing JAY-Z helping bring the first Black President into office was a moment unlike any other. Between that and Beyoncè singing the song for Barack and Michelle's first dance that was an absolutely historical period of Black excellence. There was nothing like it before but I know we can reach even higher peaks.
Seeing live was a fucking moment. I've seen iconic artists and some of the greatest MCs ever in crowds with several hundred up to one that was nearly a hundred thousand but I've never experienced tens of thousands of people living off the energy of one person like I did when I saw him. He helped me become the writer I am today and I'm not even a rapper. Whether it's my poetry, my speeches, my articles or my debates he helped shape my language. When you've got hustlers on the corner studying your lyrics, the greatest rappers ever praising your artistry and the god damn first Black POTUS praising your legacy you know you're the GOAT. JAY-Z changed rap on his very first album and in the 27 years since he's changed modern global culture. He's your favorite rappers favorite rapper and still hits number one with every album release. He's respected by the streets, the artists, the icons and the critics. More number one albums than any record artist and more Grammy's than any rapper in history. Top 5 and #1 on more lists than any other rapper 2Pac and Biggie. The fact that he's done everything he's said he's done and does all of the things he says he'll do tells you how singular he is. He's the rapper's blueprint, the hustler's textbook and a living documentary of Black excellence.
For reference I've seen Nas, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Lupe Fiasco live. Jeezy opened for JAY-Z and Cole (this was right before his debut was released) did the intermission. None of them put on a show like JAY-Z and all of them would put JAY-Z in their top 3-5. He's had damn near a hundred thousand people going crazy like he was a Beatle. He wasn't lying when he said that in his rhyme. Because he never lies.
Sometimes God has to separate us from worldly things to get a message through to us. I said years ago, Kanye never mourned his mother's sudden passing. He just kept getting pulled in different directions but he really was missing her. But there is something special inside of Kanye and he has to be well prepared to birth it or it will take him down. I pray for him often because he is fighting for his life right before our eyes.
Hov a whole god out here bro! He's a mythical level of greatness, a genius wordsmith who don't write and delivers great material effortlessly. He's transcended pop culture and music executive, and broke Superstars like Rihanna, J. Cole, Kanye West, with financial success with fortunes worth Billions awesome live performer and touring artiste, and currently a father of several kids and wife Beyoncé. Words can't begin to explain! ❤🔥👌🙌 Black excellence
As J likes to remind people...He's from the 80s not the 90s. He didn't become great until Hard Knock Life where he didn't look back. New York had it's loves and when he first began he didn't get much love or play. Believe me...I was there listening...people didn't get J at all. But I never...never thought that J would be one of the greatest rapper or lyricists of all time...and he is. J from a native New Yorker who didn't buy your tape back then...and almost 40 years later. There is no doubt at all that you deserve this. Congratulations!!!
@@tedbundy6909 for me i respect jay z as a very lyrical rapper but i didn't gravitate to his music as much as i did to nas and eminem and by all means you can rearrange it however you like its just that these are the artists i respect and love the most and are the best in my opinion
