Another amazing cover that Tarja did was "Ohne dich" by Rammstein. She sang in a church in Wacken accompanied only by a piano, a cello and a violin. It's a beautiful performance.

Sleeping Sun - Steve'n'Seagulls feat. Tarja Turunen A very unique rendition with lots of variety that I think many newcomers to Tarja will find very intriguing.

Oh, Tarja on her classical concerts also sinhing sometimes "Habanera" from "Carmen" opera. :) She has covers of "Poison" by Alice Cooper and "Still of the Night" by Whitesnake.

Tarja has little formal operatic training that I know of. She started her formal studies at the prestigious Sibelius Academy in Finland but she was bullied because she sang in a metal band. She soon transferred to the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany in 2000, presumably because she would be more anonymous there. She there studied classical "Lied" (German for song). This is basically classical style singing, but without the tricks needed to sing with a full orchestra. Lied is usually just with a piano, but sometimes with a small chamber orchestra. So Tarja absolutely has excellent!! classical training, just not opera. Opera is normally without a microphone, but the only times you will see Tarja without a microphone is with just a piano or maybe a small chamber ensemble.

In 2005 phantm she has been pinged at D6 flat. This is higher. That is all I can say. She never stopped training. When she thinks she is stagnating or having issues trying to realize something she goes back to her vocal coach. That is humility and self awareness. That is how we grow.

You do what I do: repeat a belt or high note. I think she's got a D7 in concert.

Two songs that nobody else have reacted.... From Act1 tour... 2012 Argentina..... Acoustic set... pure singing...the whole is a 3 hour concert... And an old Nightwish song in Tarja style Swanheart from Beauty and Beat tour... With her and her drummer Mike Terrana and of course a symphony orchestra... Swanheart 1st recording by Tarja and Nightwish sometimes in late 90s.... Or why not her O Emmanuel, o Emmanuel the dark style....

I would suggest that you check out songs from the DVD From Wishes to Eternity, not a lot of reactions out there but it really should be. Showcases Tarja and Nightwish during their up and coming years in early 2000. It was recorded soon after the release of their third album Wishmaster. Some of my favorites from the show are Swanheart, Elvenpath, FantasMic, and Dead Boy's Poem.

Hello there. If you really want to check out Tarja in another way yuo absolutely have to hear and se her in "mein herr marquis" When I heard that I really appreciate Tarja's singing even more.

Tarja Turunen is a great singer. Amazing technique. She is so good. But... Lara Fabian - Caruso (From Lara With Love Concert - 2000). Johnny et Lara Fabian - Requiem pour au fou (1998) (16 mi views on RU-vid). What a performance! Lara Fabian is something else!

Thanks again for your honest reaction. If I may suggest you check out Tarja’s first solo album I Walk Alone song, which can also be interpreted as a kind of response for the song Nightwish By by beautiful (which is also a brilliant song!).

I'm glad you'll continue to watch and react to Tarja. We can all use a lot of Tarja in our lives.

Great performance. Looks like semiacoustic guitar 6:43 What guitar is it? It's very rare in metal music due to difficult to control -acoustic feedback. Even though I'm not a guitar player myself - as I'm more like a keyboard player. Anyway, this semi-acoustic guitar looks so much cooler than a traditional pure electric guitar... :-)

Anastasia you have super good commentary, always. Did you notice the guitar player's missing pickup? It must be a philosophical statement.

When she was with Nightwish I think there was too much forced soprano and head voice. Then, when she went solo, she really explored her rich chest voice more and I think that's where she really shines. I think she makes a much better mezzo. A favorite of mine is the more acoustic version of I Walk Alone (Live in Milan).

I don't know scales but I've seen quoted G6. Which I assume is after the E above C. Oh BTW, the name of the festival has changed. Now the festival of rock. Guess a certain upstate New York took issue with the name.

When all is said and done, you have to ask yourself one question: "Is Muse worthy of Tatja" :)

During the intro, i saw your eyes search out the note progression as if to say "Hei.... isn't that a bit like Carmen?..." Pretty sure you're right about the G# to a C ..... she's so comfortable in that G#. I think her Finnish language background (and classical training was in Germany, iirc) push her into those 'interesting mouth shapes'. (you are such a diplomat, lol.... but your eyes give you away.) I thought you were going to pick up on her choice of footwear again... on a bigger stage (the live performances, not the planned/canned videos) she obviously wants to 'stalk the stage' ... BUT she also wants to elevate herself to that plus-6-foot-height so she doesn't appear to be short next to the instrumentalists.... thus The 6 inch heels...and the long skirts. How does she not get tangled up ? (obvisouly, this is an acquired talent which I have no experience in).

Love good music. But don't like Tarja's own material that much. She has couple okay song I can listen, other's are too weird for me. But that's just me, ik. Tarja made a song giving back to Tuomas her opinion on that whole depacle of being fired from NW. Pretty harsh text from her. Maybe that was a stab on Tuomas's Poet and the Pendelum, and Bye Bye beautiful songs. Oh and for that Master Passion Greed. All it shows that both sides think they were in right. I do wonder is Tarja late these days on her own press releases. Hahaha. Because in one NW documentary Tarja came to press release so late, press conference lasted only 10-15minutes after she came there. That just screams unprofessionalism for me. Also not sure but Tarja goes E usually. Uses G sharp a lot otherwise.
