Legend has it that, one fateful night, Bruce Dickinson and Ronnie James Dio summoned a daughter of metal. They bestowed upon her the name "Britney Slayes" and that is exactly what she does!
I can only hope you saw this comment I make on many other UTA reactions. I put it on every one that I see. Either my comment is becoming common, or great minds think alike.
They are Canadian from Victoria British Columbia. She records lots of vocal layers in her work at different notes and harmonies. She calls it the Brittney Choir haha. You can really hear her expertise with it in their songs Legacy and Soulbound. She does not growl. But If you want to hear her extreme belted highs, Tonight We Ride, Test Your Metal and Time Stands Still are all awesome. She belts up to an A5 in Tonight We Ride.. Here's a vague breakdown to give you a bit of context behind this songs lyrics and the album it's from - Apex(2017). This is a concept album telling a story track by track about an Immortal being. This is the opening song on the album. It is sung from the Immortals perspective(not all the tracks are), about being awoken in his mountain hollow from a 1000 year sleep. As a covenant of birth, the immortal must do the bidding of whoever awakens him. As the tracks progress, you find out that The Matriarch(which is played by the male vocalist in this song Awakening) was the one to awaken him. She wants him to find her four sons, so she can kill them and perform a blood ritual to gain immortality for herself(pretty dark haha), and his journey to find them. Each son has their own song about them on the album. The closing song Apex, is about the immortal going back to sleep in his mountain and it is a phenomenally written song. Their new album which came out in August, is a continuation of this story, and the immortal has awoken on a spaceship confused as hell wondering where tf his mountain is lol from the single Abyss. I won't go into the rest of the album.
Actually they formed in Victoria BC (Grant still lives there) but the band is now based in Vancouver BC. I liked the A5 reference - pretty extreme for an Alto-Mezzo 🤘🇨🇦

There is also one of her singing queen of the Reich after a concert in Edinburgh at a karaoke place also killer and in that one she wasn't just half drunk she was full on smashed and still killed it like the beast she is, can't wait to see them in september
I'm smiling. A GREAT reaction. UTA is a phenomenal group, and they are playing smaller clubs in the US starting around Sept... and they're not charging an arm and a leg for tickets. Check them out. They have a very, simple, in-your-face presentation when live. Keep up the great work.!

We need more of Unleash the Archers. Legacy and Northwest passage are wonderful slower but still kickass songs. The most glorious of the slower songs by them is Apex.
She did a great interview with The Charismatic Voice. You’re spot on with the inspiration, she states being inspired by Iron Maiden :) I do love how they bring attention to the whole band. Arch Enemy does the same thing live occasionally, the Tempe concert is good example for AE.
As a Vancouverite I can only say that UTA is one of British Columbia's most beloved treasures. Not only they are freakishly talented but they are all exceptional human beings. The depth of their lyrics, the cohesiveness of their attributes, the passion behind each chord and each verse, the swag, Brittney's stage charisma....I can go on and on...There is literarily not one single bad song in their discography. Welcome to the West Coast music wonderland Anastasia.
Two things. 1. That lipstick is awesome. 2. The more you listen to UtA, the more you will like the music. Extraordinary talent. Apex and Abyss are albums telling two parts of a story that Britney wrote. Try Soulbound, Legacy, Northwest Passage, Faster than Light, and The Wind that Shapes the Land. Then just keep going.
I've probably watched 50 reactions to this video and it never gets old... I still get chills on some sections. They are the definition of band synergy and teamwork.

Just having fun After a full show...this tells me as much about the band as all their videos combined: "Oh wait, we just finished a live set...let's go and, what the hell, maybe I'll do a super-demanding Geoff Tate number at a local karaoke bar. Yep, that'll be loads of fun!!" These Canucks are Very good, and their star is finally rising! There’s a great video on YT of her doing karaoke covering a Queensrych song. Absolutely no production value - but you can tell the real power of her voice for sure…
Not sure of anyone has stated this yet but UTA just recently won a "Juno" award for best Metal/Rock album for their newest album "Abyss". The Juno is Canadian equivalent to the Grammy.
I wish they'd put more attention on her. She's the look & the power and it's why a lot of people gravitate toward the band. But anyway, they're pretty good. I just discovered them about a year ago & I'm impressed so far. Nice detailed review :)
Love your new singles, "Romeo & Juliet" and "Moonlight," @Anastasia. Awesome first reaction to Unleash the Archers (UTA). I've been a fan of theirs since Demons of the Astrowaste album... dang that has been 10 years ago now. And you are spot on Brittney Slayes vocals. She talks in interviews about recording her vocals to layer (dub) them in certain parts of the song and how she will sing under them or on top of them just depending on what she feels the track needs. I saw them live at Power Prog USA in Atlanta back in 2015 and the band including Brittney's vocals are just as good in person as they are in the studio. Out of all the bands on the ticket for that event, UTA is the one that blew me away. You are also spot on about UTA having an old-school metal feel to them. If Ronnie James Dio and Maiden's Bruce Dickinson had a daughter, it would have been Brittney Slayes. If you want to go down the UTA rabbit hole, you are probably going to get a lot of suggestions for "Tonight We Ride," or "Test Your Metal" (which probably shows off their "old school metal feel the most out of their discography) which is off the Time Stands Still album, the one before Apex which is what "Awakening" is off of. One of my favorite tracks off Apex is "Cleanse the Bloodlines." The song and the video are both EPIC. I highly recommend it as well. Their latest album, Abyss, is outstanding as well. They took some more risks with their sound on it IMO, but it works. UTA also did a cover of "Northwest Passage" which they released as a single back in 2019 that is another track worth checking out.

I finally remembered. The Solo section second interlude. That has Jake E Lee era Ozzy Osbourne written all over it. That whole passage is right out of Ozzy. I just can't remember the song....
Hell yessss! They're so amazing! There are so many good tracks and a great variety of sound. Try out songs like Soulbound(cool video), Cleanse the Bloodlines(slow heavy epic), Test your metal(80s style throwback). You could go down a serious rabbit hole if you like them. Hi Anastasia! This band is pretty good, but Brittney Slays has coolest name and very high scream when she does it with full volume. And yes check Brittney's cover of Zombie. It's good. BTW Love your Everdream cover. In storytime cover it's funny to see that you have same kind of facial expressions as Floor. Lol. Stay safe
You mentioned that throughout the song Brittney is dubbing/layering her vocal track. This is true for maybe 10% of the song. I seen them live a few times and her voice live is just as good if not better than the album mix.
Brittney is an amazing vocalist. And many do talk about her, and deservedly so. But I would like to mention HER inspiration in vocals. The one and only Daniel Heiman (Lost Horizon, Project Aegis, Heed, and others) One of the best voices, ever!
