I absolutely adore Nirvana. They were the last true punk rock band. But it does irritate me how Kurt spent his entire life coveting fame and adoration and then acted like he was too cool for it and that it was an annoyance to him. If you read his journals, he clearly craved attention and fame. But I suppose its cooler to be apathetic and cynical when you get there.
If I pay money to see a band I want to hear the songs I like. If you’re playing in your living room, you can play whatever you want. In concert, you’re not playing for you, you’re playing for your fans. If it was really all about the music and not the money you wouldn’t do concerts you would just make albums. How about catering to the people who made you rich?
The music industry is out to make money. When you get a record deal it’s because you have possible mass appeal. You are what makes them money. You are a product, not an artist. 😢
It must be difficult being famous and having a family life but have both is hard. You have try to do both just take time out and separate them alot of people do.
Appears neither had a issue with ego I was in grade school when it was released Few songs from that time still resonates like this one Both made me a lifelong listener of great music
I understand the turmoil some of these artists endured, but did any of them give back the money they earned by being so famous? I’m not trying to hate but as someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, I think I could endure having to talk to the press and do interviews.
Amy Winehouse was our Janis Joplin. No one saw it coming, even though she spelled it out in EVERY SONG. That one still hurts to this day, it's why mental health is so important. You NEVER KNOW what the next person is going through.
Couldn’t they just have gone back to living a regular life then? I’m not making light of their pain, but if it was that awful couldn’t they just go work at a boring bank job lol
*Interesting thoughts on some of these people. Syd Barrett never sort fame nor fortune and instantly went into his own life away from the spotlight once Pink Floyd became 'media darlings'. On reading Cobain's diaries, it was obvious he sought out the fame he eventually received and then automatically acted like it was a burden. Like I mentioned, an interesting look at the 'dark side' of famous people's reactions to the 'fickle mistress' fame*
