So this is a cool trick I've used with my Micro Dark at worship gigs (again, the Stamp and MD are virtually the same amp but you know... Stamp is a pedal). I've done this at particularly the high profile mega churches I've been hired to play, and they usually have an all tube amp as their church/backline amp (which is usually a Fender or Vox) and I don't feel like carrying my cab onstage. I basically run the send from the Micro Dark into the Return of the tube amp, much like you did in this video. I use that and my pedal board running in the front that way I can get "My sound" but all tube. Oh, and different power amps will also give your stamp a different flavor. Class A 6L6 straight up thumps, Class AB EL84 that you get in Vox's is also awesome but it reacts differently. Hard to explain unless your in the room. It's a great trick to keep that Orange Sound though, you can also run the Headphone out into the Return of a power amp, different result though because you can also mess with the EQ settings of that slaved amp when doing that trick and get a mix of both the orange EQ and the slave amp's EQ. I'd love to see a video where you swap out the pre-amp tube of the stamp with different tubes. I've tried every tube you can think of, from an old NOS GE tube from an old Hamm Radio to a Genelex Gold Lion 12AX7. They radically change the profile of the amp, and I generally keep around a few depending on the gigging scenario.
thank you for the info! for anyone reading, this is all really good information for a working musician! I love these possibilities! where do you play??
I think I found my ideal fly rig. Thank you! I always struggle in small venues if they can’t mic my amp and in bigger ones if my amp can’t keep up. With this two combined I can have a small amp easy to mic but also a bigger sound when needed, and just carry everything in the pedalboard bag. That’s a no brainer!
I'd argue that dialing in a clean or edge of breakup tone on that Terror Stamp would be optimal, and then using something like an overdrive or a Joyo Oxford Sound to drive it would be the best choice. Either way, all of that should fit on your pedalboard if done right. Another option would be to use the Joyo Meteor, an Orange Jim Root Terror voiced amp of the same wattage and roughly the same size as a Micro Dark, but with channel switching.
That sounded really good man. I hope you make your goal. Hopefully Orange sees the videos you have made on their products. You deserve at least a thank you for your positive review/demo.
dude! thank you! endorsements are cool and id always take one but I've learned the hard way to only get involved with a company you believe in! haha and orange is a company ive ALWAYS been the biggest fan of!
This thing is great. I just got one and and ran it into a 4/10 cab I had in the closet since the mid nineties. Rattled the windows and sounds great. FX loop is a great feature.
Very cool! I bought a Terror Stamp a few months ago and a Marshall 2x12 cab recently. This looks like the thing to give it some ooomph and glue it together. I have a pedalboard set up that goes from Country to Death Metal and everywhere in between. So, this is certainly on my radar. Great video!
That would sound killer. Id be interested to know if there is a bit of difference in sound from the tube power section in the amp vs the solid state power of the pedal baby.
Good stuff man! I am also considering using the Terror Stamp in a slightly unchristian way... I have it now connected to a pedal-board worth of approximately 2500 $ with many cool effects on (you know, some pretty boutique stuff). And I freaking love it to use the Stamp this way in my bedroom.
Not quite as many watts, but I’m running the terror stamp into the vox mv 50 clean with the line out, and it sounds great as well. Thanks for all the info brother keep up the good work
Saw this video and now im running a seymour duncan powerstage 170 with an Orange Dark Terror and its unreal how massive of a sound it has. New backup/fly rig from now on. Thanks for this video bud!
Giving a sub for covering this. It’s my way of showing gratitude. I’m trying to start a stoner metal band, and Orange is what I’ve gravitated toward in my research, but cost is a big factor for me. Right now I’m just fiddling around with amp sims in Logic. Luckily, they have Orange clones. I’m wondering how much mileage I could get gigging by plugging from an audio interface to a front-of-house system, or if I will eventually need to get an actual amp setup. Thanks for the video. I’m not really knowledgeable about such gear. The idea seemed feasible, but I wasn’t sure about the particulars. Next question is: does Orange realize what they’ve done?!?!?!
orange is amazing. there is something out there for everyone! and when you listen to those old Black Sabbath videos with the old orange amps its such a precursor to the modern stoner metal as well as old ACDC videos that are clear crisp and bluesy! I think orange has been on the right path for there entire existence! what do you think? do they realize what they have done?
Many stoner bands still play venues where you still need stage volume, so don’t just rely on the front-of-house methods. At least get yourself a Pedal Baby and a sturdy 2x12; then use whatever pedals, preamps, and interfaces you like.
Awesome vid my fly rig last year Pedal Baby , sonic maximizer and EVH 5150 overdrive , all fit in my carry on and sounded killer , flew from Connecticut to West Hollywood CA to play the legendary clubs Rainbow Bar and Grill and Whisky AGoGo . Since then I bought the Micro Dark and been connecting FX send in to the Orange Pedal baby and sounds insane .
Affordable Rockerverb? Get a used CR120, I used to have one, Now I have an RVMKII. Its just a tubeless version, if you want tube warmth add a tube preamp...
I think I just found the dry amp for my W/D/W rig :) I will start by getting the Terror Stamp and if I feel the need to get a bit more wattage later I'll get the Pedal Baby to complement the Stamp. However, I do have a question regarding where you think I should place my splitter in such a scenario. Should I split the signal right after the dry effect chain (fuzz, distortion etc.) before the signal hits the Terror Stamp and subsequently the Pedal Baby and my 2X12 cab (the dry one), and have the wet effect chain go to my two other amps (the wet ones) without being effected by the Terror Stamp & Pedal Baby? Or should the entire signal go through both of them before splitting the signal to run one of them through the wet effect chain? My reasoning here is that the two other amps that will make up the stereo wet part of the rig already have preamps and poweramps, so is there any point of having the wet signal go through two preamps and poweramps? I guess there's another possibility as well and that is to split the signal right after the Terror Stamp and have the wet signals circumvent the preamps of my two other amps (since they are both solid state) and let the wet stereo signals go into the FX-return of the amps and thus only utilizing their poweramps?
Great stuff! Question: Can the pedal baby make the clean sound louder on the terror stamp or does it only enhance the drive of the channel? Can I play loud clean and loud gain on the two channels? Thanks!
With the gain set low on the Stamp and its volume and the Pedal Baby’s turned up you should be able to get a clean sound, and then set a gain pedal for the dirty sound
I’ve been falling more in love with orange amps all the time. Just ordered a terror stamp. And those riffs you were playing, haha same riffs I play all the time too, the darkness, Ozzy, Pantera
So after seeing this video, I scored the Pedal Baby and a Terror stamp. Bad as hell! I'm wanting to have my mxr carbon copy and holy grail in the loop, but I line out from the loop to the PB100. These effects don't sound good unless they're in a loop. Trying think how to have these in the loop, but can't figure that out. Either way, the TS with the PB100 by itself is badass! I've also been using a modded RAT and Super Fuzz with it. 🤘
It’s funny because I wanna do that video but don’t have it anymore. You can literally put effects in front OR in between the out of the stamp and the pedal baby. Which is awesome. It’s like you are looking at an effects loop in real life and not in an amp. Right?
I had the Pedal Baby, returned it because it sounded horrid no matter what gain pedal I ran into it. It lacked a tube powered preamp like so many other solid state power amps Terror Stamp wasn’t yet out when I got and sent back the Pedal Baby. Same with PowerStage. And EHX 44 Magnum
Soooo here’s my advice. The pedal baby is not a pre amp and is not meant to be. It’s meant to be a power amp for preamp pedals! If you run the pedal baby with a distortion or over drive then you aren’t using it properly. Example I use the pedal baby for my line 6 helix. The preamps are in the board and I use the pedal baby as a power amp to a cab. So if you are using something like a flyrig with the sansamp. Or some sort of preamp box then it will work properly.
I have a similar setup except for bass. Rickenbacker 4003 into a Boss Bass EQ pedal, KLONE BY TONE klon centaur clone, sansamp bass driver DI, into a QSC RMX 1450 1400 watt power amp, and an Avatar B410 cabinet
I have a supercrush 100 ( which I guess is basically the pedal baby poweramp with a preamp section) So I'd use the tube preamp section of the terror stamp (or a micro dark) and come out of the fx send and into the fxbreturn of the supercrush? (To bypass the Supercrush SS preamp section) 🤔???
This is the business!! My terror stamp will arrive next week; I am so stoked to try something like this! My chain will be guitar_Friedman BE-OD Deluxe_Orange Terror Stamp_effects send into input on a Marshall Origin 50 with a Boss GT-6 in its effects loop_ pushing a matching Marshall Origin vertical 2x12 cabinet.
@@jimmyfranklin I mostly play Hard Rock and older Heavy Metal (before all the sub genres became a thing lol)... really dig the Fireball Ministry type of grooving. But I love all guitar driven music.
Hell yea man! That’s what it’s all about! Remember that MOST of the gear in my videos will have a link to it in the description box. If you order with that link it’s NO EXTRA charge and it helps support the channel!
So I’m curious, do you know if the send/line out on the terror stamp comes with a built in cabinet IR? If so that may cause tonal conflict when running through a real cabinet like this. From the camera mic this sounded good, but I wonder if there may be extra unnatural saturation that could be remedied via a switch flip or something inside of the Stamp. Love the idea and glad you made this video!
with this setup does the fx loop become unusable, this seems like an intresting idea to keep the terror stamp relevant when i need more wattage but the fx loop is key to my pedalboard setup and rerouting it would be a pain
No! It’s just a little more confusing. You’d put the pedals BETWEEN these two and that would be your effects loop. Run effects in front of the terror input and any thing in the loop between the stamp and pedal baby!
Sounds great bro bro, I currently run an OR15 thru an Orange 2x12 open back cab with Vintage 30's and have a slew of MXR pedals on my board. What I want to know is, can I run the Terror Stamp with the pedal baby using a Boss ME80 for my effects and using the preamp section for cleans and the Terror Stamp for the dirt. Tired of carrying a huge pedalboard and having to deal with bad patch cables, I use a CS-12 Pro to power all those pedals(12 -17pedals) so I'm going to get the Boss ME80 to down size. Also what do you think about using a Fender Strat deluxe through that kind of set up? Currently have a few Gibsons but I've been thinking my sound might be a little cleaner with single coils.
FIRST: thank you for the sub! second, that could work really well! I'm not sure if you'd have to a/b that set up but it could work well with a Strat because you can get blues tones out of this easier with single coils!
No. You can just run pedals in between the two. I haven’t done this in a while but you can run pedals in between the two and stuff in front of the input!
Random, coming back to this video, IDK why it didn't occur to me before that an ABY pedal or buffered splitter in the loop of the terror stamp with a patch cable would let you use the speaker out of that little pedal amp for a monitor. Also, I saw your other video for the Helix, and you could 4-cable method that with the terror stamp, and since the helix does stereo, just run the other channel out to the Pedal Baby.
WOW. - This was my first thought, the moment I saw the Pedal Baby. It seemed warm, very warm, to me. Would you agree? - I bought my first Orange, a baby combo purely for my lil' home studio. But, I am so keen on it, I want to step it up a bit. I like the two lunchbox amps, but this seems maybe a better, more versatile prospect. BUT - the mini-terror/mini-dark DO strike me as a good next step. Got tonsd of awesome amps for gigs - but i bought small examples of Vox Orange and Marshall for hoime recording (I already have a bunch of Fenders and some vintage stuff - just wanted a tonal palette for home studio recording). Any thoughts or comments would be well appreciated - but confirmation of 'warm' especially. NEW SUBSCRIBER FROM THE UK - best regards man... stay heavy 'cross that pond mate!
Are these pretty much the same thing? As in I’m a bedroom player and have the pedal baby which I use a ksr ceres in front of to power my zilla cab but could I say sell the pedal baby buy a terror stomp do the same thing but have a cleaner platform ?
They are not the same thing but the terror stamp can be used as a lower power pedal baby. But it’s true intention is to be a pedal amp. You could do that but I personally will never get rid of my pedal baby!
You went from the send direct into the pedalbaby? Did you ever notice any strange noise? I have some kind of oscillating, ventilator-like hum when combining these two...
Working Class Musician far as I understand they are, they are versatile I’ve been using a Blackstar ht valve pedal to preamp my crush 120 head and my 60 watt crush 1x12 sounds insane running it the same way you ran it to your set up
This is exactly what I was looking for, can you just run this almost as a gain pedal, that takes pedals well! I'll be trying it as the last thing in my chain into the front of a flat amp (or the return of the amps effect loop)
I'm not overly tech savvy with equipment yet. Can you explain the reason you couldn't get much of a clean tone out of this? Would dialing back the gain on the terror stamp cut a lot of the volume out of the whole rig?
its so funny that i found this vid i was looking at orange heads on ebay and saw this pedal baby. After already having a micro terror and then the terror stamp coming out. then i was like: "hey what if u combine the terror stamp and the pedal baby together?" my fist idea was to use the terror stamps fx loop to have my pedals driving through then it would be crazy.
@@jimmyfranklin no actually because just found out about it yesterday after one of my tube amps fried on me. I wanted to try something different and this was the first thing i saw on ebay lol.
@@ooferrell YES!!! give it a shot... and so many possibilities! as a pedal board amp... a headphone jack, DI live or recording! running it as a power amp for modelers!
Could you do this with an orange dark terror? The only difference I see is the dark terrors effects loop doesn't say line out like the terror stamp. Is it possible?
Great vids. Hoping to get me a STAmp soon . Support from the north west of England. Hoping for some oasis tones with some hum buckets. Would be much appreciated. Keep up the great work
Working Class Musician I have, it’s amazing. My ONLY complaint with the Stamp is the bad amp sim, but the Radar completely solves that and then some. I’ve slapped a TS9 in front of it all and it sounds absolutely massive and Orange-y🤘
I don't think it would be necessary honestly! you'd be putting a preamp between your preamp and power amp.. are cool things possible? yes.. would I do it?? no
Interesting! Would you be able to review some tube or solid state AMT preamps with the Pedal Baby? I believe the O2 from the Legend Amps serie emulates the Orange sound, and it has a proper clean channel.
Damn it man, my dream stoner fly rig is getting closer, I’ll go for terror stamp for sure and plug it into my SD 170, however what about fx in the loop when u’re using it as a power amp output?
dude! its easier than it sounds! think about it.. the effects loop just goes between the preamp and power amp section right?? so patch effects after the amp head but before the power amp and others direct into the amps input.. get it??
here's an idea: how bout that same rig, with some stoner riffage (mid gain, like an overdrive), but with a live band to compare sound level. maybe with a DB/Sound meter? i just still can't believe this thing is loud enough!
I swore I was hearing Mark Agnesi speak here! I wasn't watching and utube just auto commenced this video...but then when I had a look, I had to read the blurb, cos I then thought this might be Agnesi in his callow youth while he still had his hair and his cred (nah! I'm joking, I still love a Mark - he's just another guitar Bro, we gotta have one another's backs). Rad vid, Jimmy Working Class 👍. I'm circling a Rockerverb or a Marshall DSL right now, actually... But you think one of these through my Fender DeVille might cut the mustard, eh?
Bro...I swear I thought you were going to try this setup on the initial Terror Stamp video! 🤣 Sounds monstrous!! I’m looking for another setup to run along with my Mesa DR to go stereo. I used to run a Fender twin (ABY switch), was considering an HX Stomp, but now I want to trying coupling the Mesa and Orange to see how crushing they are together. My (limited) bank account hates you now 🤣🤣. Killer job! Cheers!
Working Class Musician We think too much alike 🤣 I used to run the Mesa into two 4x12 cabs for bigger shows. One was the Mesa over-sized slant/straight w/Vintage 30’s and the other was a Basson cab w/Eminence 75’s (I believe). I mic’d both and ran an H&K Redbox direct to FOH. It was HUGE!
🤔 I missed out 9n the Micro Dark sale..wound up with this Refugee Peavey Pirhanna 20w Amp "clearance item" they list the bag n power unit. QUESTION: If I add this Stamp to my Board...Do I get 40watts? 🧙♂️😅 Hahaha
@@jimmyfranklin thanx for a reply. I have one more question. I curently run a modeler into fx return of a tube amp. Sounds great to me. But maintenance free and lighter weight solid state is kind of apealing to me. No stores around me carry this product so i cant test it. How much of a difference there is when you plug your helix into this aposed to a tube power amp? What are your impressions?
@@leonisalpha4537 awesome question.. I have another video on the channel about that! honestly it loses so little its not even noticeable to me... I have the pedal baby, my helix and my orange cab and I may never go back... because the pedal baby is Class A/B as opposed to Class D it has a real feel and projection that tube amps tend to have
@@jimmyfranklin great news. This migt be just what i am looking for😁 patches might need some eq-ing. No biggie. Just need to get my cab down to 8 ohm. 🤔 Or just get another 16 ohm 2x12 for 8 ohm total. Damn it. G. A. S hitting me all over the place😅 thanx for your help and info man. Will check out your helix vid. 🤘
It"s a pre amp idd. Terror stamp arrived yesterday so i did some experiments. Bangetaar + terror stamp possibilities of sound are endless and so loud you can easely gig with it but a noise gate is recommended. Then i did bangeetar + terror stamp + pedal baby using the valve pre amp of the terror stamp and eq settings of the bangeetar . Crazy 🤘🤘😎😎 a bit to much so the bangeetar and terror stamp will just di fine. Keep on rocking 🤘🤘
Working Class Musician I can play leads but I’m more of a rhythm player. Love the percussive right hand. I want to learn at least some theory on how major and minors work within each other. I know minor stuff but never learned much major. But it colors the sound nicely when used right.
