Today, 10 years ago, I uploaded my very first demo video. That video was a demo of my then new Orange Rockerverb 100. Since then me and my Rockerverb 100 have been driving my RU-vid channel forward! Sometimes, however, I must admit that not every pedal that I demo sound great through it. THIS...is where the Orange Amps Pedal Baby 100 comes in.
So what is the Pedal Baby 100? It is a pedalboard POWER AMP...meaning it is a guitar power amp designed to give you a blank canvas to use your favorite pedals to craft your guitar tone. But there has been some misconception as to what the Pedal Baby really is.

I bought this pedal baby as my fly rig and been using it since ; my EVH el34 just collects dust now lol I use my EVH overdrive pedal with my sonic maximizer pedal and sounds insane . Definitely great buy for the price .

Glad you enjoyed it! I've not used it for that purpose but I know several folks who do something similar with either Helix, Boss GT-1000, Fractal, et al. You may need to make some adjustments based on the power amp's tone and your speaker choice but I think it would work just fine.

Awesome video! Can we use the pedal baby on a 1x12 cab with 60 watts v30? Or will it blow up the speakers? I have 16 ohm and 8 ohm cabs

I take a 50w Marshall to every show and rehearsal and use it clean with everything as flat an neutral as I can make it, and I use simple overdrive pedals (Blues Driver, etc) to give me all my grit. I would like something much smaller and lighter, and this seems appropriate. I definitely don't get the most out of my Marshall. My question is, do I need a preamp pedal as well as my overdrive pedals in order to use this?

interesting question. in my experience, it depends on the pedal. some dirt pedals sound darker and others have enough range to their EQ controls to replicate an amp's preamp. the clean tone is a bit "meh" on the Pedal Baby so I'd recommend pairing it with an EQ to get the most out of it

Although I haven’t played that particular preamp I think this works great for preamp pedals of all kinds. If it says “preamp” or is described as one it will probably work out great.

Hi Sean, thanks for your time making this video, its very important for the interested in this set. Im from Brasil, and im trying to find the rigth equipment to use with my modeler (MOOERGE300Lite). The main point is the possibility of use the IR together the signal. So, im assembly a cab (fisycal cab) with a FRFR speaker, a brand producing in my country. Do you think that will be a sucesfull combination or not ? I ask to you because i really think that is it important, all the videos here are using the Pedal Baby with modelers, but always with the cab simulator or the IR mode off. This simple thing reduce a lot the possibilities of tones in this kind of equipment. For example, I would like so much to abble to make a choice if i will use a JCM800 with a 4x12 V30 or a 2x12 creamback, that will result in a big difference. So, i will appreciate so much if you can take your time to answer this question. Thanks a lot.

Hi Andre, This is a great question and the answer is very simple but does require some explanation. First...YES you should definitely use and FRFR speaker with your modeler if you want to have access to your IRs. You'll just need to find a way to route your signal to both your FRFR cab and Front of House, which could be a problem if you have a lot of Stereo effects (like Ping Pong Delay & reverbs) programmed into your modeller. The reason WHY you should do this (and why the Pedal Baby is demo'd with Cab Sim turned OFF) is because running an IR of a guitar speaker into a guitar specific speaker cab will result in a form of Phase Cancellation. You'll lose some low end, possibly even get a scoop in your midrange. The sound usually feels very "hollow". Think of it like this: your IR is a "picture" your recorded guitar speaker. The IR takes into account ALL aspects from your Speaker, Microphone, Preamp, any EQ, etc. That audio file has ALL that information and is then interpreted by the IR loader to re-create the sound of your favorite cab. This is the sound you'd be feeding to a "normal" guitar speaker; colored, tweaked, and an INACCURATE representation of the signal coming out of the speaker output jack of your amp. Hello. Between 2009 and 2016/17 I had the Orange Rocker 30 appreciating its sound and sound paste. Now I would like to buy this Pedal Baby and play it in my Line6 1x12 using my guitar pedals. I would have, as a clean sound, only the Compressor and the Flanger (sometimes a Clean Boost) and in the pedalboard I don't have a pre amp pedal. Do you think it will be okay? Thanks for your attention and forgive my English (I'm Italian). Great video !!!

Hey man! Thanks for checking out the video. I'm not 100% with you on what you're looking to do. Is the Line 6 1x12 just a speaker cabinet? I think that the Pedal Baby 100 does OK as a clean tone, but a little bit of EQ and compression it is much better. There's not much "vibe" to the sound of the Pedal Baby and that is by design.

Hi, do you mean I can use the Pedal Baby 100 as a bass guitar amp with an orange OBC112 bass speaker? Or is it better to use the Little Bass Thing Amp with the OBC112 for guitar and bass? I will use a flyrig for Effekts between the guitar and the amp.

No, you cannot use it as a bass amp...for several reasons: - the Pedal Baby is not necessarily designed for Bass guitar. - the OBC112 uses speakon cables and not 1/4” speaker cables. The Pedal Baby has 1/4” speaker output. - you could plug the fly rig into the power amp of the LBT, but that’s like 500 watts. I don’t really use one rig for guitar and bass. Not all equipment is good for both.

You need to have a cab that can handle 100 watts at least. Anything less and you run the risk of running both amp and cab.

What threw me off was Orange using the bass and treble glyphs. I definitely do _not_ need the Pedal Baby, and probably never will. I can definitely see its use, though.

That’s the only way to run this thing. There’s only one input on the front end, the jacks on the back are speaker outputs. It’s meant to sound great with everything plugged in front.

Thanks. Well the main reason players would use this is to have a lightweight and easy to transport amp option. This also has a very flat frequency response, which lends itself well to being a “blank canvas” for pedals, preamps, modelers, etc. For example, I’ve seen a couple guys use two of these with a Boss GT1000 or Axe-FX and speaker cabs. This is an option when bringing along an amp isn’t possible

I´m a bit confused. At first, I thought it would be a perfect solution but you will still need some kind of preamp plus your adored Pedal, whatever. So need this and that a bunch of cables and power supply and probably still won´t get the sound of a tube. For all that, there is surely a cheap old Tubeamp that also will be small enough to fit in a Backpack besides some cables and if needed a Pedal.

it probably just isn't the best solution for you. A lot of people are running amp modelers/effects processors like the Helix or Axe-FX into this as a neutral solution to amplify their curated presets through a conventional guitar cabinet you would find at a venue or borrow from someone else. Travelling abroad for tour and want to fit everything but the cabinet inside your suitcase? The terror series has the vibe of real power amp and preamp tubes, but it sure as hell doesn't have headroom to be crystal clean against a loud drummer and the rented 8x10 fridge. It's not like the market for this doesn't exist.

As I stated and showed in the video the Pedal Baby is NOT a traditional guitar amp but a power amp for guitar. So the input on the Pedal Baby is effectively like the Return jack in a traditional amp’s effects loop. Simply plug into the input jack in the front and that’s all you need to do.

Hey Brent, The most likely reason for this is because that’s not the intended use for the Pedal Baby. The speaker outputs are only speaker level. You’d need some sort of external device to get a Line Level signal. Something you COULD do is use a speaker sim pedal, like the NU-X Solid Studio or ENGL CabLoader, and put that at the end of your pedal chain using the XLR out to go to your DAW or sound board and then use the Thru output into the Pedal Baby and then to your speaker cab.

No, there is no line out. There is a speaker out, which uses speaker cables (NOT instrument cables) to deliver power to speakers. It can be hooked up to speakers, but that's about it.

@@brentbartels9254 hey Brent! check my OG comment for some suggestions. But I forgot to add that their are Line Out boxes in existence as well. I believe Suhr makes on and possibly Radial. And I do believe they can be connected between the head and speaker cab. Just make sure you ALWAYS used speaker cable and not instrument cables.

You can do the effects send of the dark terror into the input. I have a Dark Terror and the Pedal baby and tbh you lose a lot of the stereotypical tube bottom end doing this. But yeah, it works

@@SeanPierceJohnson I know a guy who runs the joyo zombie through pedalbaby but it does not affect the zombie low end at all I'm thinking because the zombie is a class d power amp and a hybrid where it would effect low end response on the dark terror because its an all tube amp....hence why to orange terror stamp works excellent into pedalbaby because it too is hybrid

Took mine back. Typical Orange flubby mid- hump regardless of what you throw at it IMHO. Some may appreciate the color but other SS amps are more neutral sounding than this one. I was neither overwhelmed nor underwhelmed.

@@SeanPierceJohnson I threw it through an OS 4x12 Recto Cab. Figured that would suffice. It's good for ambient and spacial effects imho. For tight metal it's severely lacking.

@@frozendivots1564 in my experience/opinion Midrange is more handled from the preamp/EQ stage. the flatter the response of a power amp the better. and tweaks usually are only needed in the low and high end as these frequencies tend to be the ones that can cause the most issues the quickest and can also encompass frequencies in the mids. there are power amps that give you control over mids, like the Seymour Duncan powerstage. but the flatter the midrange of a power amp, the better in my opinion
