Great mini-documentary. Immoral behavior, yet I can't help but be impressed by their exploitation of the rule set and skill to almost pull it off. It would have been interesting to see if limitless shut them down on lower pings. We'll never know. I'm glad that it all worked out for the best, though.

I think they really could’ve got away with it if they only had one of their players play horribly. The whole team playing horribly is just unbelievable but one player could be a multitude of circumstances, and would’ve most likely still ended in a loss

There should be more rules as to who can compete to different regions related to server proximity and residency. Maybe it's too complicated for epic or maybe it's not legally sound plus it can be beat with enough money to rent space there .

given the rules being set the way they were, they totally shouldve been allowed to face limitless, L devs for sure. they did have a bad day. was waiting for the match to go on and hear about an epic tale of effort and upset but nah they just get banned LOL what a joke

100% deserved, maybe not the 1 year ban, but the DQ was justified, maybe add a ban for only 1 major or qualifier will be more fair, or reduce ymc tournament point Idk why theres people defending ymc, yes the rule allowed them to compete in ssa region, and yes they also have a rule about throwing games, so its not rocket science to understand why psyonix gave a punishment to ymc, And p.s ymc suck at pretending they were losing, “ah yes, lets dominate in the first swiss round, and then losing really really badly in the next 2 round, and then dominate again until we qualified”

Great video! I've been watching this story since it developed and it's such a crazy one. I do wish people would stop blaming it on the cross-region rule, though. That rule is terrible, awful, and ridiculous, and it should be changed ASAP, but it's not the cause of this. This same cheating scenario/opportunity could happen in any region with any team vying for a major spot, whether it's the last spot in NA/EU/MENA/OCE/SAM or the single spot in APAC/SSA. Whether the team was in their native region or trying to worm their way in via a different region. This is a product of the playoff seeding and format, not the cross-region rule. I think the rule has become the focus only because it happened to be of these wormy teams that is in this situation. A local SSA team could have had the same opportunity to cheat. If YMC were close to the #4 NA/EU spot, they could have had the same opportunity to cheat and we now know that they probably would have taken it. And again, the cross-region rule is nonsense - I agreed with a lot of the rule changes this year, but that one is simply inexcusable. One other thing is that this kind of gaming of the system takes place in a lot of sports, but it's a bit more subtle and easier to get away with when there are more players, line-up changes, etc. Last year Rule One was in a similar situation with the Falcons in MENA where they would need to lose a series in order to snipe the Falcons and get the Major spot. IIRC one or two of the R1 players suddenly had Internet issues and had to delay the match. Instead of being DQ'd after a certain amount of time per the rules, the RLCS admins made an exception and waited until the players were reconnected. Rule One didn't throw the series and didn't get the spot. I believe there was another case in OCE a few years back, but that was before my time.

I had heard about the game throwing ban fast fast but thanks for the whole story. Pathetic lol but the dumb rule opened the door for these fools to walk through. Hence why in soccer they making the matches at the same time so teams don’t know the results of other games till after.
