I certainly believe it to be a variation, and although likely used many times, not having a specific word for it is the same reason old languages used to call the sky green. Nobody had named it yet. Its highly likely it has already been or will be used in a pro match.

Well said, as u can imagine the names of things will definitely change, at one point air dribbles were called “squishy drags” 🤣 and from my knowledge this hasn’t been seen in rlcs yet, buy maybe that’ll change next season 🤷

I think its like every other off the wall mechanic... I'll never be able to do it lol ive been playing two years 1400 hours and i'm still at a point that when i get an accidental flip off the ball I don't use it properly

Hey! Jerry here, really great video. I definitely don't think I'm the first one to hit this mechanic, I mostly made the post because I saw competitive potential if people were able to recreate this exact shot consistently and as I don't have much time to play this game, I thought I would leave it to the young mechanical freaks to experiment with it. I have been working on a similar shot but it isn't as straight as this, mine is like a stall and I can shift the car to the side of the ball to increase aiming advantage. Players get their resets as normal and then shoot but the key thing about these type of shots is that you use your first point of contact with the ball to jump and as it is a surface you can manipulate the reset into a wave dash or more, the only thing is your next jump is timed. So get yourself in training and jump at the same time you gain a reset, see how you develop

With such intricate detail and breakdown of little things in the community, you should have one as much as 200 times larger. I feel like a more appropriate name for this mechanic would be the Wave Reset. We have the Wave Dash so its only fitting to name this the Wave Reset considering you have to wave dash on the ball in order for this specific mechanic to even be achieved

I believe it was actually invented by an oce pro markydooda in very early 2016 (he called it a pilgrimage save), but like I mentioned squishy popularised it later during 2017-2018. I guess u can claim it if u want 🤣

its a recoil flip reset, similar to a recoil dash on the ground. maktuf has done this before.

props to Jerry for bringing this mechanic variation to life. though It would appropriate to call it a wave reset or a dash reset, as its a variation of a reset combined with a wave dash on the ball, imo it doesnt have the uniqueness to slap a player name on it. where did you come up with your criteria for a "new mechanic"? just curious. many people have differing opinions on how to define that. your criteria isn't bad, but i really don't think something needs to be viable in competitive situations for it to be a mechanic. it just needs to be unique (or have a distinguishing aspect that makes it a variation of an already existing mechanic) and repeatable. stuff like heli resets and muirie pops aren't competitively viable but still certainly count as mechanics. that said, good video, enjoyed learning about this and i appreciate the research you put into it

I guess what I was trying to get at is that if it’s viable ingame then ppl tend to take the mech more srsly and the community will more likely agree on it being “new”. It’s not the ONLY factor in deciding whether it’s new, like u said other mechs aren’t viable ingame, so that’s y there r 3 extra criteria I have. Thanks for asking tho!

this is kinda like the wall dash. people have been doing them either on accident or purpose forever. but they only recently got a name and called a mechanic. i pretty sure you can even see pros do it in like s3 or 4, but no one cared about them until like season x/2021-22.

My honest opinion is that this name may well change in the future, stuff like “rapid reset” or “dash reset” could also be used, only the community can rly decide on what gets chosen 🤷

Doesnt look like very usable move tbh looks easy to mess up and seems a bit pointless. Like going for a 2nd reset really quickly after u allready have one. We'll see in the next rlfx if its any useful

A very valid point, one thing to keep in mind is the fact that u can conserve boost during that second reset, and your car ends up more forward without the need to boost. It doesn’t seem like much, but who knows it could be useful 🤷

Nice video. So what I think is that it will become meta like in a half year because, it looks nice and extreme useful. You know you are wavedashing on the ball stay at the same height with the bal, and still got a flip

the only mechanics that are useful are ones that shift the direction of the ball imo (fucks with any opponent tryna read the ball), this doesnt shift the direction of the ball much if at all and therefore is no different competitivly imo than if u were to get a reset wait about a second then shoot with it.
