The original airplane also had a ram air turbine that was mistaken for a propeller. The model looked cool and the rocket igniting made it even sound cool.

If you run the rocket with no power to the prop, make sure that the ESC brakes the prop to a stop as otherwise the spinning disc will act like a massive airbrake.

Two modifications: A folding propeller commonly used on sailplanes. This will add some knots on when the rocket is fired. Rails. Just like how the Wright Flyer was launched. Your landing strip is just too rough on the poor thing. You could also try to launch it using the rocket while using the rails too!

This is one of the toughest planes I have ever owned. It is also the one of the few I own that I have crashed on take off. Not once but multiple times. I have had the older yellow nose version for several years so that should give you an idea of just how durable these things can be, and it's still a lot of fun. The older version came with a magnetic release. The wheels will still come off prematurely on bumpy ground just not as often. The hardest part of flying this plane is getting it off the ground. When it does get off the ground it can surprise you sometimes so be ready. Make sure you have extra props or your fun can be over before you ever get it in the air. It might have been a better idea to have made it as a pusher prop without the rocket although it might have lost some of its fun factor. I have seen one on RC Groups? that was modified with a pusher in the back as well as the original tractor in the front. Fast and loud.

Very cool video, seems like a handful to fly, maybe tame down the ailerons and add a bunch of expo or encompass a gryo into it. Adding the rocket motor was really cool.....

I had several RATO ships in the past, one of them a flying wing made of 2 layers of coroplast set at 90 degrees. Had D size Rocket engine in that one. Thought it more smoke and mirrors till one day I launched it pretty much straight up (something it had enough power for anyways) and hit the switch. The 5 or 6 seconds the motor was running and the smoke from it was uncomfortably in my line of sight so that when I pulled up a bit to see it I was shocked at how far it actually added to a normal climb. Still, I think it might be cooler to instead of having a long burn motor in the back a couple minutes of smoke charge might be more visual. I've got one of the original ones hanging on my wall that I flew quite a bit but then I stopped flying so much about, let me see, the granddaughter turns 14 this year, about 14 years ago. I was getting a little more stick time then the 10 year old grandson came along. But with a reduction in flying time my reflexes are not as sharp as the average sport pilot with a ton of hours I was were. Now that the soon to be 5 year old Granddaughter is getting in schedule, and I retired because I couldn't work AND take care of them on my daughters nursing schedule work days, and now my wife is about to retire, I hope to get to the field more often. I'll have to take that off the wall, dust it off and hook that electric switch to it so I can play too. And thanks for mentioning the "slightly nicked prop" That thing was sounding horrible. 😆I'm up a little early so I just thought it was me. Also reminds me, it flys so much easier if it doesn't turn into a blur at anything over half aileron stick. WOW does that thing roll fast. Just realized, you had the sticky bits put on that for the first flight. I only recently found mine tucked away in a parts box and put them on. The "Cannon?" and the antennae behind the cockpit. I figured those were for display only. Looks like the antennae one holds up decent though.

Ive had 3 of these earlier versions. Rog takeoffs have always been nail biters! The short moment and not stearing tailwheel are the problem. I am thinking largerwheels to get more clearance would help. Also, how about using motor not prop for takeoff... skip the torque issue? I still have 2 in the boxes!

Hi, I have this model with the magnetic dolly servo and it works well. Just a couple of points. Firstly it does fly ok and land easily with the wheels, so if you dont have the servo and fly off bumpy field and want to glue wheels in, that is fine. Secondly you don't get import taxes buying from hk in Hong Kong ..but their prices DO NOT include uk vat. You will be charged the shipping cost which is shown on the site when you order, but you will also have pay an additional 20 percent vat plus a vat collection charge of around 12 pounds. This is not shown when you pay on order, but is normally charged by the shipping company via email before they will deliver. Just be aware before you buy. Thirdly you didn't mention the swastika. I put mine on, but I appreciate it is an individual choice. Very fun plane, and very robust. I have had a pilot error tip stall at about fifty feet and only broke the prop. Great video. Andy in uk.

Great fun. How much are the rockets for six seconds. I've got two Lippisch P15 , one EDF and one converted to a pusher, similar style and great flyers.

I don't know if Estes still has them but when I was in to model rocketry they had rocket motors that you could double up one on top of the other the first one would burn through to the second one and ignite the second one So I wonder if you guys can't do that with that plane
