Seriously, was there any explanaition for that? Did All Hollywood forget how editing works? Those weren't the same who vote JFK for best editing for sure.
bohemian Rhapsody was a very mediocre movie, it didn't deserve all them awards. Only rami malek deserved an oscar because he was brilliant and convincing as freddie.
No, No This Film Will Be Passed Over At Award Season!! Wait! It was medicore Chris, I walked out after 30 minutes! This felt like a 90's Touchstone Picture!
Also Eltons brother is pissed off that they said his dad never supported Elton and hated him for being gay etc when their dad was fine with him being gay and bought him his first piano etc
I agree with all of this. Sometimes the glossy, Hollywoodness of certain biopics can be eye rolling but in the case of Elton John, that type of storytelling is PERFECT for his man. It fits his personality like a glove.
@@brandonstevens5628 in BR every song is either the original or butchered, while in rocket man it's filled with amazing covers which actually fit the story and couldn't just been shuffled around to change nothing, thus removing app the emotion from the song playing and just leaving us with "Yeh I member that queen song, is pretty good, wish it was mixed better tho"
Anthony Wright I thought he was good, but still think Bale, Cooper and Dafoe were better than him. Plus, if he got an Oscar for Bohemian Rhapsody, then Egerton deserves 2.
@@emigrant1510 Watch the Live Aid footage from 1985, and then re watch the scene from the movie. Rami damn near had every move down. Cooper was OK, and I haven't seen Dafoe and Bale in their movies.
@@tuliocano8468 yes, BR was wonderful. Brian, Roger, John, Mary, Freddie's sister, who all knew him best, approved. Showed Freddie's struggle with sexuality and celebrated his musical genius. ❤ I am excited to see Rocketman and won't compare it to BR because it's apples and oranges..
John Owen He has become much more critical after working on his own films. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that though, and I'm still a big fan of his, but it can be frustrating.
Kakashi- EM Because you didn’t have anyone interfering with the story. Bohemian Rhapsody was heavily guarded by Brian May and Roger Taylor, as they own the rights to The story of Queen. Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to do a movie about Queen like this movie, showing the warts and all. Mae and Taylor did not want that; they wanted a family friendly movie. In fact, there initial desire was to have Freddie die halfway through the movie and the rest the movie is them coping. Obviously that didn’t happen, and we got the crowdpleasing, inoffensive bohemian Rhapsody. While Alton was a producer on this film, he did not want them to shy away from the addiction or the sexuality. If feels better because it is. It would be like walk the line, if the Cash family so we don’t want you to show Johnny’s alcoholism or the guilt he feels about his brother’s death. I’m not saying you need to have graphic sex scenes, but Freddie was not shy to say that his life was very very very very R-rated; If feels kind of false to do anything but. Also, not to shit on Rami Malek, But he wasn’t doing the singing nor do I think he was doing the instrumentation. Having the actor actually perform both the instruments & vocals as well as the vivacious stage persona gives it a bit more umph
Taron Egerton crushed and nailed the performance of Elton John. He needs to be nominated for Oscar for Best Actor. Also, the costumes are outstandingly glorious and a nomination for Best Costume Design is a complete guarantee.
This is the second biopic from star Taron Egerton and director Dexter Fletcher. I saw Eddie the Eagle a few years ago and I was the only 1 in the theater, but I thought it was good and even had a 80's synth soundtrack and style. It sounds like these two are a good team, both Actor and Director. Also I'm glad they didn't try to sugar coat it by making it PG-13.
I thought this film was amazing, I didn’t expect to be so moved by if. Taron was incredible, I still don’t know how he goes from being a spy in an action film, to Eddie the eagle and then to Elton John- with the singing! He definitely deserves an Oscar
Matthew Vaughn, who produced this, expressed interest in directing it. There is supposed to be one called Stardust by someone else, but it wasn't approved by the family, and will not feature his music.
Benj Ransley Maybe I wasn’t in the right mindset to watch a movie that night, but I just didn’t care for all the random singing. The movie Bohemian Rhapsody was really good, and more my style for a biopic though.
A biopic wouldn’t work well because he kept his life so private that most everything we know about it was created by the media. Almost everything we can say about him other than his career is completely fictional and it would end up being a work of fiction rather than a biopic
When Taron walks in during Saturday Night, he gives a smirk like "this is my movie bitches now sit back and enjoy." It was at this moment that I fell in love with this movie
iPod 97 said the same about Malek as Mercury and he won the Oscar. I haven’t seen this yet but I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about his performance.
@@kingblue71I think he deserves it, I honestly found it way better than Rami Malek's. That's saying a ton cause he is actually one of my favourite actors.
He won’t, it would be unusual as normally movie that want to fight for a nominations come out closer to the Oscar season, December, January February. I think it’s wrong but that’s what “usually” happens. There’s still the BAFTA though...
He's so good in that movie I literally couldn't stop crying I felt so bad for the way Eddie was treated and when I read more about what actually really happened (because the movies pretty sugar coat it) iseriously broke me. I can't believe the awful way he was treated by the media and by some of his teammates and there's multiple RU-vid videos where Michael/Eddie talks about that. He also broke almost every bone in his body had hypothermia was always cold and hungry in the movie left those major details out.
What blew my mind in that movie is how Taron played Eddie with his vision problems which is never even mentioned. My friend, who is legally blind, said oh man Eddie has a vision handicap. He can barely see at all. That's why he's squinting and looking around and looking over his glasses, looking down the lenses. She was blown away that the actor can see relatively well.
I just saw this movie ( I'm 12 and know real music) and am shook. This movie made me cry and laugh. I saw bohemian rhapsody which was amazing but this movie is just amazing!
ROCKET MAN makes Bohemian Rhapsody look like a mediocre piece of marketing, that good this movie is. A big hug from México Mr. Stuckman, I'm a big fan of this channel.
Egertons performance as Elton john is much better than malik's performance as Freddie mercury. Best actor guaranteed. He was also really good in eddie the eagle.
It helps when the actual singer is alive and put his input with the writing and directing to lake sure it is accurate. I love Taron Everton and he really brought Elton to life. I cannot wait to see this movie!
If they can disqualify categories and expel people from voting...why can't they just say "hey,we know the editing was a joke so...here you got editor of Blackklansman or The favourite".
My father loves Elton John, but he was afraid at first with this movie, since he hated Bohemian Rhapsody. Im glad my mother convinced him, and come back with a "God, I love it". I need to watch it one of this days.
Chris ia already pretty generous. How often do we watch a film that really deserves an A+ (Personally, I would give out this rating only to movies that have stood the test of time i.e. even after years and multiple viewings they still hold up.)
Yeah, Taron has so much emotion going on all the time. He's so full of tension that he seems almost intimidating like Henry Rollins, like he's always an instant away from just knocking someone out when in truth he's usually an instant away from tears. It was amazing.
I thought the fantasy musical style was a great choice for telling Elton John's story... and that's coming from somebody who's not much of a musical fan!
Agreed, Mainley. I'm not much into musicals but I loved this one, both for structure and because I like Elton John's music. How else would you tell his story? But I was taken aback at just how much I loved it; the story and especially Taron and Jaime's acting really moved and resonated with me.
I waited to see this with another Elton John fan and it was great. We both just giggled through the through the whole thing. I even teared up at the end. Fantastic movie.
Yes yes yes! I'm British so we saw it on opening night here (22nd May) and I *ADORED* it! Absolutely brilliant, and I've had the soundtrack on repeat ever since haha!
This is what more biopics should be like. Not afraid to be a film that engages the visual flair while relaying the historical accuracy and emotional resonance behind it. I like also that we are kept on our toes with these songs. They're not played for when they're performed in real life, but to tell the story and ground them in Eltons life. We can look up a performance on RU-vid easy enough. But what was Elton feeling when performing at the time. Similar to how Chernobyl does things. Some dramatic license maybe, but the sheer horror of the experience is conveyed by the poetic ironies and disturbing imagery that pervades throughout its story. It's not documentary, do We have plenty of those, it's film, it's art.
Rocket man was boring! I walked out 20 minutes before it ended. It’s a bummer it’s a musical. I also can’t sit there and watch a grown man constantly crying.
The Movie was bad. It's 2 hours long and about 100 minutes of Oh woe is me, with my drug problems and my parent issues and my millions of dollars. It's not as good as the reviewer says. Its not Oscar worthy. And the actor does not do Elton's voice justice. Edit: You didn't even mention the symbolism with the outfit in the beginning of the film vs him at the end of the film. Very Heaven vs Hell thing going on. Surprised you missed that.
I also first remember Elton John from The Lion King, and I got so sick of hearing that song, Circle Of Life, that I decided to keep far away from any of his music for years. Over time I kept hearing about how amazing he was and eventually I learned that Circle Of Life wasn't the best introduction for me. During his early years as a musician he had lots of songs that rocked the fuck out and after giving a few of his albums a listen it was easy to understand why he is such a beloved artist.
@@drasticgamerstv1025 dude I knew absolutely nothing about the man beforehand but I still had a wonderful time. It's definitely good for both fans and newbies alike.
Amazing movie, just gotta say this: Richard Madden was getting on my nerves for a long time for some reason and his role in this movie didn't help in changing my mind haha
I was so hoping they didn't just go the route of Bohemian Rhapsody, so good to hear it came out WAY better. Thanks for the review. You continue to be an inspiration to content creators!
I didn't know who Elton John was until my mom pointed out the poster for the movie. She ended up recommending certain songs to basically "get ready" for the movie. I can safely say that I'm in love with his music now. Thnx, mom
I've been dying to see your review of this! I saw it Thursday night and I just fucking loved it! Taron was amazing, and I'll be shocked if he doesn't get some Oscar talk out of this. It's really nice to see him make such a great comeback after Robin Hood. I couldn't get through the first hour of it. This, I wanted more, and could have easily watched another hour. It was the perfect balance of funny and sad, though I definitely agree that a few scenes drag slightly. A- for me too. Also, not sure if you've heard yet, but Taron is also working on the Netflix series for The Dark Crystal. I can't wait to see that too! Glad he's back to doing such great work. Also also, Taron worked with Dexter Fletcher on another movie a couple years ago called Eddie the Eagle which was pretty decent all around. His performance is good and I would love to see the two work together again, especially after this. Love your videos, man! Take care! :D
