I partnered with Rockler Woodworking to hang a Dust Right 1250 CFM wall-mount dust collector with a canister filter in my shop! I added a few extras to make this dust collector extremely functional and multi-use!
I drew up and implemented designs to incorporate a Y-splitter; now I am able to have a floor sweep AND a dust collection hose for all of the tools at the same time! I can’t say enough how much I love how much this dust collector and how much it has improved the workflow in my shop. I've been keeping the shop floor significantly cleaner as a result of this project!

I bought the Dust Right 750 last year and I love it. The collapsible hose is the bee's knees. Combined with the Quick Change handle and it's so easy to move from tool to tool. Rockler has it goin' on with all their Dust Right accessories.

I have the same setup but I added a large Oneida cyclone with a 30 gallon bucket because I hate using that plastic bag. Recently I made another modification. Mike Farrington has a video of how he replaced the plastic bag with a screw on 5 gallon bucket and I did the same thing. Since the cyclone catches 99% of the chips, I haven't had to empty the bucket yet.

I empty my bag about 5 times a day, and each time I hate it more, the zipper needs to be longer or up the whole side,

The Only thing I would have done is to add the 4 inch foil tape to every single area that you use the silicone sealant too, this would have completed the air seals stopping any air leaks and increasing the suction etc. Just one other thing have you thought about adding a row of these new super strong magnets that you can now buy??? Adding a row of the magnets around the mouth area of your floor sweeping hood will help tonnes when it comes to sweeping up the workshop as any nails or screws etc will pass into the hood mouth and automatically stick to the row of magnets you placed around the mouth of your hood saving you getting any unwanted damage done to the impeller of your dust collector system. P.s. The price of a dozen magnets for the hood mouth is way cheaper than having to go and replace the impeller or even having to replace the dust filter or bag because of a puncher in the walls caused by a screw or nail 💅 🙃 🤔. As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.

Thanks for this. What kind of PVC is best to connect to the Dust Right hose? Plain end, or the sewer drain end pipe that is flared out a bit at the end? Thanks for your help.

I don’t use the drain end pipe! I took the fittings from the box to Home Depot and picked whatever pvc fit!

I would have mounted filter before hanging the motor, then hang and secure the motor to the wall.

One of the issues with sponser provided tools and machinery, is the user doesn't always give an unbiased review. I hope after using The Dust Right dust collector you will give us your honest opinion. People like myself who want to purchase a system rely on reviews when making an expensive purchase. I have just a hobby shop that I built when I turned 50 and retired, and even as small as my shop is, I think I will need at least a 2 hp motor for the assorted machines I have. I think the Dust Right is only a 1 or 1-1/2 hp, but if you think it has enough suction I may consider purchasing one. If I do, I will be sure to mention your channel as the reason I chose this model. I love Rockler and the sales the have!! I look forward to a review about this D.C..

It does have plenty of suction for my tablesaw, jointer, planer, and drum sander. I don’t see a spec of dust from my drum sander when I have my dust collector turned on (and it’s 25’ away)

So for your table saw, do you just have the saw piped up under the outfeed table and then plug into the system whenever you go to make a cut?

Thanks for the video. I’ve read so much about various models, their cam claims, which model is right for you, etc. and I’m having a ton of trouble making a decision on whether it’s worth it or not to purchase a unit. In your honest opinion, does this work as good as you’d like it to? Do you get a lot of static even with the ground wire? And most important, are you still spending as much time sweeping as you did before. Thanks again

So 2 months later: I don’t use the floor sweep as much as I planned, but the suction is still incredible and works well. The DC itself is really solid and does everything I ask of it. No static electricity buildup!

If there is a next time of installing one of these, connect the the canister to the quick connect first then slide it up on the outlet and tighten just the 2 bolts

@@dogwoodcustombuilds7743 The section you connected to the motor first then lifted the canister up to. If you were to connect it to the canister first then slid it onto the motor, the 2 bolts looked more accessible in the video. I could be wrong, I am an outsider looking in. lol

What do you think of the vacuum attachment after having it for a while? I've heard mixed reviews that some people just use their regular shop vac after having the dust right version for a while. Do the wheels on the bottom spin well?

Honestly I don’t use the vacuum attachment much at all. It’s not bad, it’s just not as useful as a quick sweep

Thanks. Tablesaw is “as expected.” It’s always had to get that fine stuff getting thrown back. Works amazing on the jointer, planer, and drum sander

You show having to sweep the floor in the beginning and how much you hate that. At the end you are vacuuming the floor which seems to have the same amount of dust? I mean you could use a shop vac for that. Seems like the system is not working effectively?

Vacuuming doesn’t kick up dust into the air like sweeping. Also, it’s a bigger mouth to vacuum with than my shop vac

I just put mine back up yesterday since I've also just relocated to a new garage and home and I noticed you didn't put the rubber vibration dampeners when you put the motor up. Did you mean to leave it and has it had any issues with vibration against the wall? I have concrete so I felt the need in case of vibration issues. good luck with the new shop!

@@dogwoodcustombuilds7743 It was the plastic-wrapped black roll (rolled up rubber strips) you grabbed at 0:58 in the video. If you didn't read the instructions, you may not have realized what that was for so disregarded it as unimportant.

Not sure you stillfollow this channel. I am getting ready to buy that dust collector. I have a smaller Wen now and im concerned on how noisy the 1250 cfm one is. Wen isn't reall loud just kind of has a hum to it. My equipment is louder. Is the dust right the same?

My tools are definitely louder than the dust collector. It really just hums like a drone in the background. Couldn’t complain about the noise at all!

It would have easier to mount the flange (with all the screws) to the filter first and then mount all of that to the motor with the one band clamp.

Idea, even though I know it's way too late, and there may be a reason not to... Attach the flange to the canister first, then lift it all up to the collector and clamp it? No? You could at least loosen the collar to spin it to whichever orientation you want.

Thanks for sharing this installation video, good stuff. Couple of questions, what is up with the background music, it sounded off key, it was very distracting? Next up, why didn't you attach the canister to the motor, then attach the entire assembly to the wall, was it specifically proscribed by the instructions, too heavy? Sorry to hear about your camera, bummer. Last question, are you planning to upgrade to a pre-filter i.e. a dust cyclone? Finally, one concern, your static electricity wires may not be properly grounded, consider attaching them to the motor housing, the motor housing should be grounded via your electrical system.

All that extra chalk is going to ooze inside the pipe and have a lip for dust to get caught on and eventually break off and go into the blower. Also that ground wire you made was useless screwing into wood since wood does not transfer electricity.

@@dogwoodcustombuilds7743 not to something non-conductive, but to something that actually IS conductive. A static wire like that is for dissipating the charge to earth, aka ground. It could've instead been wired to the metal outlet box just to the right of the dust collector, which would be bonded to the ground wire of the outlet there, which goes back to your panel ground, then actually have been effective...well, there's arguments on whether it actually makes any difference or not, but doing so would have actually done *something* over nothing.

Your static build up is coming from the friction caused by the long flex hose, not the PVC. PVC is an insulator and your wire on the outside is not grounding anything. No matter though because you're not producing enough small particle dust (and the static 'spark' isn't sufficient to ignite) to cause an explosion. Any story of an explosion comes from large commercial shops with multiple, constantly running dust-producing machines or industrial applications like grain elevators. There's not a single documented case of a home/hobby shop (single man) ever exploding due to an ungrounded dust collection system, much less one with PVC ducting. I really wish this internet myth would die.

Even if the screw goes through the pvc to the interior of the pipe? I don’t know all the science behind it but I figured “better safe than sorry.” Any input is helpful!

@@dogwoodcustombuilds7743 yes, even when the screw goes through. In fact, punching it through them ruins the laminar (good) flow inside the pipe and robs you of efficiency. The “better safe than sorry” approach is actually hurting your overall performance (although the relatively short run of PVC compared to the nearly 30’ of flex hose isn’t really helping you all that much anyway). Your use of the PVC is good at keeping things up off the floor but you should find better ways to limit the long flex runs and/or reconfigure your blast gates in order to cut the flex out of the system most of the time in order to get as many CFM through your DC as possible.

@@dogwoodcustombuilds7743 screwing the ground wire to a nonconductor isn’t needed either. A ground wire literally is connected to the ground at some point. With projects like this, it’s typically through your dust collector casing because the casing is connected to ground through your shop outlet.
