Even after ten years, this clip proves helpful - in my case not only for it being the tutorial I just needed but on top of it for helping identifying some parts in my Tora SL from visible part numbers in your video - as SRAM tends to be a bit cryptic on what parts actually fit my SL solo air fork. Thank you profoundly! :)

@@cannondany Turned out nothing was wrong with any seals, the foam on the positive air piston had completely dried out and that seemed to be causing the leak. Re-oiled and regreased and it's all running smoothly again :)

Good job and it's alwas surprising how smooth even these cheaper forks like the Tora, XC32 and Recon are after a complete service. The solo Air spring hasn't changed remarkably since then, nowadays they just come with grease. I always use both grease snd some drops of oil for the air chamber.

4:31 Dust seals must be replaced every 50 hours. If you dont do it, you are risking the failure of the dust seal where the spring seats. That will result in a direct contact between spring and upper leg. If this happens when you are riding, then you are going to have an upper leg scratched by the spring since the leg will be moving up and down against the spring. Dust seals are not to be inspected just by looking.... You cannot see their internal material fatigue. You got to remove it every 50hrs in order to avoid this particular damage of the plastic spring seat being bended / taken away / broken by the spring .... The 50hrs kit is there not to avoid it. It is there to buy it for some reasons. Good luck!
@galehess6676
@galehess6676 2 года назад
Much easier than you'd think. Take your time. Makes for a smoooth operating fork! big difference if oil is old. There aren't parts that are easily put in backwards, dropped, springs that jump out and that kind of thing. Easy out, easy in. I've done a few (RS Blackbox, Foxes, all easy enough, even if you are, like me, not mechanically inclined). Revise that "tap gently with mallet," to "beat the snot out of that bolt," as that is sometimes the case, it slowly works loose after many medium taps.

Great video, I've been servicing MTB shocks for ages even before the days of RU-vid. From Rockshox Judy DH, to Rockshox Jett, Dart, etc. Manitou as well . For the Rockshox Judy they have a special slider lube called Judy butter. Pretty much the same lubes as shown in the video. Rockshox recommends staying away from lithium based lubricants.

so is it the same process cleaning the older rock shox forks?? I got two 90s Zaskars with bad Rock Shox forks that I would like to try to rebuild. Thanks!
@Ecksterphono
@Ecksterphono 3 года назад
@@AngelRodriguez-kg9bz It is depending what style. Some of them have gas struts which others don't. Some gas strut Assemblies are rebuildable while others are sealed and require replacement. However if your down tubes are pitted slightly or missing chrome, or the coating, it's better to replace the whole fork. Some rebuildable gas forks require nitrogen instead of air.
