I did the same thing as you when I got my Rockwell 6S. I tried each plate to check the difference in blade feel and efficiency. As a daily shaver, I settled on plate R4 except for the 3rd pass above my lip. I usually flip to R2 for that and pickups. I only suggested that you go right to the R6 plate because of the many times I've heard you say you like more aggressive safety razors. It's hard to beat the 6S for value since it's like getting 6 razors for the price of one. In fact, I always recommend the Rockwell 6C (because it's less expensive) to beginners because they can dial in the level of aggression while they are learning the techniques of DE shaving.
