Rockwell basically took their already powerful sonicrafter multitool and added 4.2 amps and a the ability to switch between the full oscillating angle of 5 degrees for fast cuts or 3.4 degrees for better control of cut and created the Sonicrafter F80 Duotech Oscillating Multitool.

I have the f50 after learning about it from you and I LOVE it! I hated mutiltools before owning a Rockwell. The carbide Rockwell blades are all I buy because they outlast the bi-metal by 10-15x, Kudos to Rockwell for making them when even Diablo doesn't.

Changing the blade is so freaking easy. I’m surprised you have that aspect a thumbs down. I’ve been using a Rockwell for lots of years and just picked up this model because my old one bit the dust. I also have the Makita 18v and definitely prefer the blade lock system on the Sonicrafter

@ToolCraze 6 лет назад
I explained it pretty clearly in the video why I wasn't crazy about it. Rockwell's system is only slightly better than having to carry around a spare hex key with the ancient hex key and bolt system, most newer multitools have advanced to modern latch and pin systems. The Rockwell blade change system simply does not compare to any standard latch and pin system in ease of use, time and effort to change blades, and in reliability. I've never once had a blade slip on a latch and pin system.

Good review. Let me say though that if you are plunging into 150 yr old irreplaceable historical millwork - and have ONE time to get it right and no room for error - a smaller oscillating angle and more control is absolutely what you need. Definitely not just for beginners.

I don't know what kind of jobs require so many blade changes that this tool's locking system is such a big issue. I had to plunge cut into multiple layers of wood on either side of an exterior door frame to enable the new brick molding to fit into the rough opening on a very old house. I didn't have to change blades after cutting about 15 linear feet of board to almost 2 inches deep. I like that this system allows the use of 3rd party blades whereas I don't believe Fein, Bosch or Dremel do. Blade change time is a small price to pay for a tool that saves so much time or even makes the job possible at all. It's even possible that this tool's cutting speed makes up for the 30 seconds lost changing a blade.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 5 лет назад
You'll change your mind once you try a regular latch and pin system or better, the starlock mount. You are wrong about there not being 3rd party blades for fein, bosch and dremel as there are plenty and they also accept universal blades from most manufacturers. Starlock is a different story.

Very true. I change blades about once a week. Takes about 10 seconds. No big deal.

This machine resembles a cast cutter that doctors used to cut casts off arms or legs.My brother needed a cast removed-the doctor came out with a machine sort of like these machines.The doctor held it against my arm and my brothers to show it wouldn't cut you.Cut the cast off in seconds.I have one of these Sonicrafters mine is the 20V condless one-handy device!!!!Think of it as a Dremel tool that vibrates instead of turning.Has similar uses.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 5 лет назад
What you call a cast cutter is the same exact type of tool, no different. Fein invented it and when their patent ended is when all the other brands started to make their own variation.

Cast cutters come from two major companies that make surgical instruments.Stryker is one of these cat tools and Motec is another.These tools are all SS and enclosed so they can be autoclave and won’t cause fire or explosion in the presence of flammable anesthetic.Both machines can cut casts or bone-usually in autopsies.Both of these tools cost $2000+.The Motec tools runs from a 40V power supply.

I get the feeling this dude hasn’t actually owned the old school hex key system.. in actual on the job use needing to have a hex key handy is such a pain, especially so since even if I’m using the same blade I still find myself constantly changing blade angle… lifting and turning that latch is a breeze compared to finding the right size hex every time I do so.. I also think the two oscillating angle modes is a great feature.. that 5 degree angle has waaaay too much movement for materials like metal or hard composites like acrylic, especially if you don’t plan on constantly replacing the blade.. The only complaint I have that has any real substance is that it’s a corded unit.. but at least it has a reasonably long cord where I only pull out an extension cord maybe half the time or so.. But all around good post man, thanks! Appreciate the content brother

I have. For a time the original M12 was my multitool. It uses the ancient hex key system. That was many years ago. Since then latch and pin systems are far more common place especially on new tools. But the best multitool blade mount in my opinion is the Starlock mount. Once you try it, it's hard to go back to anything else. Glad you enjoyed the video review.
@kekoajk05
@kekoajk05 Год назад
@@ToolCraze hmm wow well fair enough… the way you viewed the twist lock system as even almost comparable to the old school hex key system really surprised me.. it was like a night and day change for me when i upgraded into the tool free twist lock, like legitimately changed the way I used the tool and I find myself reaching for it probably twice as often… If you haven’t watched project farms oscillating multi tool comparison and/or competition you should check it out… something that really surprised me was how little the star lock system had on the tools performance… always just assumed that the star lock could transfer more torque to the cutting edge after reading it so much on the literature advertising the systems features… but from a perspective of based purely on cutting performance both the makita and Bosch units utilizing the star lock system it was regularly out shined by relatively entry level/ hobbyist units like Ryobi and Hart.. the results actually really surprised me
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze Год назад
@@kekoajk05 sounds like project farm agrees with my findings. in my videos on the Starlock multitools from many years back I mentioned the same thing that Starlock mount doesn't make the cut faster and didn't see any real life difference in the claimed torque transfer on the same multitool with our without Starlock. What makes it great in my opinion is how ridiculously fast, easy, and simple blade changes are. That's about it and that is a huge deal to me. Also for the most part the Starlock mount is tool free as well and don't have a pin to deal with and lose. Like I said for the most part as there are some Starlock multitools that ironically use a hex key and bolt. But the Starlock majority do not. Yes Rockwell's latch and pin system maybe better than the ancient hex key and bolt system since it doesn't require a separate hex key, but that's as far as the benefits go in my opinion. I still find it cumbersome to have to twist and tighten to install blades when a regular latch and pin system doesn't require that, nor will a regular latch and pin system fail and have blades slip like it did with Rockwell's implementation. Anyways, I'm just repeating what was said in my video. If you disagree, that's fine and cool, we all have our own opinions and feelings on different things and that's ok.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze Год назад
If you want to check out something absolutely nuts, check out a Starlock multitool that also uses a hex key and bolt system. It's absolutely bonkers toolcraze.net/bosch-gop12v-28n-12v-ec-brushless-starlock-multitool/

please note that the two different angles are related to what type of material is being cut. Also, the metal cutting blades require the right amount of pressure to cut, otherwise too much pressure cutting metal will destroy the blades...

@@ToolCraze Well, check the prices for yourself and see what I mean. Nonetheless, I ordered the Bosch GOP 40-30C from Amazon today for $199. I would think it would be less noisy and smoother motor than this Rockwell. German engineering? They take pride in whatever they do.

Since when do off brands compare directly to a quality name brand like Bosch? Of course a bazillion cheap blades will cost the same as three quality blades. Compare prices of Bosch branded blades in regular and star lock and it's the same prices. Even when compared to regular blades from REAL brands like DeWalt, Rockwell, Dremel, prices are the same as Bosch branded star lock blades.

You'd have to check Google to see if there's a 220v version. We don't use that here in the USA unless we need it for AC units or if you're a hardcore woodworker that needs 220v.
