Roco HO 73035 EDK 750 Digital Motorised Crane with DCC sound and working lights with a fully controllable crane telescopic boom.
This crane is quite expensive and probably one of the most expensive single items I own on my layout, though it is worth every single penny and has such good detail which looks great and sounds awesome without any doubt.
The crane boom is fully controllable using a DCC controller with F functions, the crane structure can rotate 360 degrees continuously and the whole crane is also fully motorised which can move approximately 6mph at top speed, however you can disengage the motor using a switch underneath the chassis so it can be pulled by a loco at higher speeds.
The crane and controls of the boom are quite easy to master, however if you need to lift items with the boom fully extended then you’ll need to add the rear counter weight, you’ll also need to extend the four outer support pillars which can be quite fiddly to level off, it also comes with a lifting beam and orange lifting straps, however this again is quite fiddly to set up and uses tiny pins to lock the lifting straps in place to the lifting beam. In honesty it’s probably best and less faff to play with the crane with light loads at a closer range without doing the full set up.
This is a really detailed and well thought out model which I’m sure I’ll enjoy using on the layout.
As mentioned this crane is not cheap, however I found the best price from Scograil.co.uk in January 2021 and purchased the crane from them, I haven’t dealt with them before but I will say they were extremely helpful and provided a very quick delivery service.
