Dan Wootton speaks to journalists Rod Liddle and Paul Connew about the row surrounding BBC Newsnight’s handling of the alleged Dominic Cummings ‘scandal’ after the BBC issued a statement saying the programme “did not meet standards of due impartiality."
Rod Liddle told Dan that Newsnight “should endeavour to ensure this never happens again,” saying “apologies from the BBC are rare…even they were forced to conclude that [Maitlis] had allowed personal animosity to get in the way of a fair interview.”
Arguing that he did not think people took Emily Maitlis as a serious interviewer anymore, Mr Liddle said “she is a hero amongst that rather agreeable Metropolitan bubble in which she lives.”
Whilst Paul Connew highlighted to Rod Liddle the fact there was a petition supporting Emily Maitlis which was approaching 100,000 signatures, he did say “I do agree with Rod to a tiny point…I would have changed a tiny little bit of that intro.”
Paul also pointed out the “surprisingly large number of Conservative MPs who had come out against Dominic Cummings and telling listeners that the specific exceptions to lockdown rules quoted in Cummings’ defence, had been intended to assist children in violent situations who had been in danger.
