Was talking about musky fishing and someone said that those big musky when they get caught it can wear em out and can't recover from it and die so that's why I thought heavy gear would speed up the fight and not drag on

Would a ugly stick gx2 10’ medium heavy rod work for musky and pike fishing ?
@abaddon3735
@abaddon3735 3 месяца назад
Yes it would, before I got my new setup I was fishing with a 7 foot medium heavy gx2, it caught over a dozen tiger muskies and a 41 inch northern- got the job done just fine!

You forgot to tell everyone that muskie fishing alone is expensive!. 15 To 40 dollars for one bait 200 to 400 for reels and 200 to 600 for rods. Treat it like deep sea fishing gents however there are cheaper options but the down fall is unfortunately you get what you pay for and with muskie when you hook up you don't wanna lose it due to a cheap rod or reel breaking on you and potentially harming the fish. Good luck out there. Nice video regardless.

Around here, more musky are caught on 8# test, more by accident than on purpose.

What would you recommend for a heavy pulling bait reel (double 10 bucktails etc.)? Right now I’m looking at the Diawa lexa TW 400P-P, lexa HD 400PWR-P, the Okuma Komodo SS KDS-436P, shimano tranx 500, and the Diawa Prorex 400P-P. I would prefer a solid line pickup (in terms of spool size) and a gear ratio of 5.3:1 5.1:1 4.3:1 or 4.1:1

Should I get 300 or 400 size reel
@deers9644
@deers9644 2 года назад
I like 400 for more versatile things, for example baits from the 4-10 ounce range. But, it can still throw small stuff with ease. A 300 size reel is what most people in the musky world would use as a down sizer. It’s perfect for mepps musky killer bucktails, little cranks, etc. everything just comes down to what you need it for.

The tranx 300 and 400 share the same gears. For the money you can't beat the diawa tatula 400. Has dual bearing pinion support and their version of what Shimano calls micro module gears. Stainless pinion gear is what sets it apart for durability and withstanding long term abuse and heavy fishing. The tatula has external adjustable brakes and more fine tunable than tranx centrifugal brakes. It also looks great and has the t wing which sets it apart in casting smaller musky stuff compared to tranx. I own both don't get me wrong they're both amazing but for the fact you can get a tatula 400 for around 250 and also offered in a 8.1 ratio I would pick it over tranx. They both weigh same and look amazing so it comes down to what you prefer and want to spend. Also don't sleep on the piscifun alijoz 400. Me and my guys all used the best and love our alijoz 400s. They are bulletproof and the best musky reel if your on a budget hands down(120-150$). It still performs on par with big money reels at a good price. And they come in a couple different colors and gear ratios also having alloy frame and handle side plate with dual bearing pinion support they boast all the high end reel features. You try one you will love it.

do you guy have experience with the lexa wn models as a sub $200 reel?

My fishin partner and I both bought one last year to put on our MH rods for throwing the lighter stuff. His started makin weird noise end of first day out. I really liked mine the first day. By the end of day two, mine was whinin/grindin on the retrieve also, and was only throwing a Phantom with it. Put another $100 with it and get the Lexa HD, Tranx, or Toro Beast. If your on a budget, the Piscifun Alijoz might do you justice for $80. I replaced the Lexa WN with the 5.9:1 version. Put a few trips on it...so far, so good. I also just bought the HS 8.1: version, threw it from the bank a couple times, but hardwater showed up before I could get a full day trip on it. Build quality doesn't compare to the reels listed above, but will allow you get another rig or two set up on a budget, and they don't fish bad. You will be less than 1/2 way disappointed should it start to fail. At $200, the WN is not a "cheap reel" but in our experience, acts like one...so you might as well buy 2 cheap reels over it. I also had good luck this year with the Piscifun Carbon X spinning reels on a couple smallmouth setups. Good Luck!

They push product, yeah. They get a lot of their tackle for free, so having a bunch of rods and reels is a total non-issue for them.
