Jeff was almost beside himself when Rod showed up. Such a natural. Rod never sounded better than when he sang with Jeff or with Faces. Jeff Beck makes everything he does, no matter how imaginative, look simply effortless. He let the sound of his guitar be the draw, not himself.
When I feel disconnected from the world and myself, I watch this moment. And I cannot help but be touched and have a tear in the eye. Rest In Peace, Geoffrey Arnold Beck.
There is something very comforting watching Jeff Beck play live. There is always the chance of something that you've never heard before but never with the worry of a screw up. He is just soooo familiar with his instrument a true artist that's a joy to hear.
That "dancing on the knifeedge"-thing is why I had to not listen to Jeff for a while. He made me so uncomfortable as a guitarist and listener; how the hell did he transform an atonal fluke to a perfect new lick that no-one knew how to recreate? I got Jeff Beck'ed.
Tai is back there shaking her head: "41 years old? I wasn't even born then and here I am now playing with these legends." Must be an incredible feeling.
These 2 guys have always been a dynamic duo onstage together!! Rod Stewart's got an incredible voice, and you couldn't ask to be onstage with any better pure guitarist than Jeff Beck. Thanks for sharing this. Great performance!!
I saw them at the local dance in Boston (Lincolnshire) in 1967, Rod was unknown then and Jeff had only recently left the Yardbirds, Jeff was great then and he has only got better
I posted PEOPLE GET READY on MYSPACE two days before Easter never DREAMING I would witness this pairing a few short days later. I was nearly moved to tears . Now I know exactly how Kurt Warner felt when he won the SUPERBOWL . THANK YOU JESUS , JEFF , & ROD
I am so glad I was not there. If Rod Stewart came onto the stage and sang this, unexpected, I would have had such a joy that I would have probably gotten arrested. This Stewart/Beck version of this Curtis Mayfield's song is my fav. I have been a paid musician for 48 years (bass player) and this just gives me goose bumps on the outside and on the inside. Just love this. The studio version was a creation beyond words. GB you all. Bru
It would be totally worth getting arrested! When you go before the judge, just tell him you got a little too excited at a Beck show when Rod Stewart did a surprise walkon. "Case dismissed!"
Today as I'm sitting on my couch just looking outside. I'm listening to Jeff Beck playing that guitar and Rod Stewart singing. At this present moment in time I'm giving. Thanks for the fact that we do have a recording of Jeff Beck's performance playing his guitar. On this particular afternoon.❤️🔥 That's the only blessing I need as I listen to the two singing and jamming together to a great song. Thank God we still can hear Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart as a duet 🥰
I agree, isn't it amazing how the singers get knighthoods but not the brilliant guitarists. Jeff Beck is amazing. I also like Keith Richards who is fantastic, both brilliant guitarists but different.
Saw,these Guys on the first U.S. Tour in N.Y. after The "Truth" record came out .They were a bit raw but feel it was a definite historic time . Not many Musicians have the lasting Passion, individual super Creativity like Jeff. It's innate . The, other Band I was fortunate to see at Carnegie Hall was w/ Cozy Powell the Great -the Rough & Ready group .They were so Tight , & did both albums back to back. These ,days are gone but Legends do Live On/ God Blessed Jeff Beck. and I miss Him Yes.
Great composition by Rod Stewart's awesome voice plus Jeff Beck's master- guitar talking a sweet sound! They don't do music like this much anymore folks! These are True Artists!
Curtis Mayfield wrote "People Get Ready" & Willie Dixon wrote "I Ain't Superstitious". Jeff & Rod recorded that song in 1968, when "Rod the Mod" was lead singer on The Jeff Beck Group's first album, "Truth".
Yeaaaaah! I was there. 20 ft from stage left side. Yep, the expression was there, he was surprised when RS showed up. Regardless, the show was owned by JB. As always Jeff was totally mind blowing. THE BEST Axe man there is.
To me what's the worst is I always said one day I would go to see Jeff Beck perform live😢. That one day never came because life got in the way 💔🕊️ not seeing him will be one of my biggest regrets. RIP
Music is the key that can unlock one's inner feeling(s) that reside in some cases, dormant in our souls till that combination of melodic genius meets the refined precision of a master such as Jeff Beck.🎸 He has the ability to reach deep into our souls, and touch parts hitherto unknown. It's an awakening of spirit to be sure, what we choose to do with this gift of course is up to us. Appreciate, share, marvel at his use of time and space, how he shapes the very essence of each thought, and can transfer his gift to everyone.🎸 Some of us are more fortunate than others, when we can connect with him on a different plain, where he bridges that gulf of time and space, it is a true connection, that we are powerless to control, we revel in every moment, the cadence, the tenor, the timbre of each note can take us to another dimension. 🎸 My heart and soul become one during this embrace, and the feeling is one of pure delight. Thank you Jeff, when you gear up, there truly is a disturbance in the force, and it is heavenly, sublime. Rest In Peace in God's grace, my friend, you are truly missed.🎸
Great articulation in your commentary!...Beck could reboot your soul with one note...and also, he could fix your old car!...This guy was such an everyman...who just happened to be some kind of genius guitar player!
Was Stewart a surprise guest? Beck seemed genuinely surprised when he looked and saw Rod there. Maybe he's just an emotional man. Learning Mr Beck passed a few days ago has left me shocked. I followed the 2022 summer tour of UK and American he seemed a picture of health. Strong, energic, muscular 78 yr young,. Certainly wouldn't know his age by the way he performed, his interviews. The tour ended Nov 2022 and two months later he's left us. Unbelievable. My sincerest condolences to he wife, family and friends.
It was a surprise only to the audience at the El Rey on Wilshire in LA. Jeff & Rod had a rehearsal, though to their credit it sure felt spontaneous. Unfortunately I went the next night, so I missed this magical moment. People in line on my night had heard about Rod’s appearance and we were hoping for a repeat performance, but someone in the know said “John Mayer tonight.” Sure enough, it was.
God Bless you, Jeff Beck, for teaching us how you could make a guitar sing. You’ve been one of the greatest guitarist for so many of my years. May you rest in peace as you go onto your next adventure!♥️🥂🌈🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Amazing performance...and great band featuring Tal Wilkenfeld on bass. RIP Jeff Beck...greatest tone, articulation, and note placement of all time. No one can sound like Jeff Beck.
Agreed, a great band. But as well as Tal, how about some kudos for Vinnie Colaiuta and Jason Rebello. So sad about Jeff. I'm sure he still had a great amount of incredible music to give to us.
@@cliffwheeler7357 The fact that he stuck around for 50 years after Hendrix died, and kept on improving, all the way!...you gotta give it up for Jeff...he gave it up for all of us, for all those years!
May Jeff Beck rest forever in the Peace and Joy of the Lord God in Heaven..! Among all the Great Guitarists of his true Renaissance Generation... Jeff Beck, from the perspective of 'innovation' alone, which itself could never shine without other great skills on the instrument... is rightly 'home' within and among the Echelon of the Greatest Guitarists of All TIME..!
Jeff has a really good tone here on People get Ready (he almost always did) and such subtle playing, just beautiful. And Rod sounds great too, RIP Jeff thanks for all the great music.
@@dannyoneil5058 I'd say the closest contemporary Beck had in his age range would've been Gary Moore. SRV was a beast, but he wasn't around long enough for us to find out where he would've gone. Jeff Beck went so far down his own rabbit hole that he basically invented a new way to think about the whammy bar. The way I think of it is that SRV was the final evolution of the Albert King influence, while Jeff Beck is more of the starting point for the shredder generation. Both great players, definitely could hang. The Albert King influence isn't a slight either, Hendrix was clearly a huge fan too by his bending/licks.
To have been a fly on the wall. When I first hear Jeff with the Yardbirds I said, "WHOA!" But when he came out with his TRUTH album I was completely blown away! HE'S THE INDISPUTABLE MASTER OF GUITARISTS!
Truly, the good ole days. To be able to relive some of this stuff is in fact a priviledge and Rod Stewart is forever the classiest Rocker to ever grace the stage. Thank you whoever. You need a raise.
Hello 👋 Steph. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Rod is Right. You just thank the Lord. Jeff is in "Jordan" Heaven. God Bless you. Thank you for all the love you gave us through 6 strings. Rest is His love.
😭😭😭 Jeff Beck in guitar hero heaven RIP I had the immense chance to see him once in concert, and especially to have discovered his music, his unique playing. Jeff Beck you were by far my favorite living guitarist. You will always be by my side. RIP ❤😭❤😭❤😭
If I really want to hear Stewart sing I put on a Faces album and get my groove on. Beck on the other hand has never lost a bit of that original fire and is one of the few cats from the old days still creating fresh inspiring music.
One of the all time great guitar players, it's funny that when they have lists of the all time greats, the people they put ahead of Jeff, it's comical, Keith Richards ahead of Jeff Beck, come on.
@@johndunn4162 Hendrix not in that group? But I totally agree about Beck. He’s so overlooked and if you ask people like Page or Brian May they think Jeff’s on an entirely different level than even themselves.
OoooOohh that tone! Oh God I am about to cry! People #Get #Ready a #True #Artist has left us 😥 THANK YOU JEFF!!!! #Thank YOU so #Much !!!God bless your soul & Spirit!!! Bye Master
Truth was one of the first albums I bought when I was a lad - always thought this group was an extraordinary collection of talent. Great to see this - thanks.
Jimmy Page calls you a six string warrior. I think of you as a god From the time you first started the band, you were a guitar kid's admiration at that time. When I saw your live performance at the sports arena in Osaka, I was moved and shaken. Your death is truly a shock and very sad. Jeff, thank you so much for letting us hear your wonderful music. In heaven jam with John Bonham, Charlie Watts, Phil Lynott, Gary Moore, John Lennon, Michael Jackson and Wolfgang Amazeus Mozart forever. Peacefully. . thank you.
I grew up with Beck and Stewart. When they parted ways, I followed Beck. The man's innovation continued on while Stewart, although popular went more traditional.
And young Tal gets to be on stage and play bass with these amazing legends. I think she deserves it, though, because she's good, and you can see that she loves making music.
Jeff Beck was a chameleon on guitar he can pretty much play any kind of style. He may be gone ,but the music will live on forever. RIP G.O.A.T. 🎸🎶🎵🎶🎸🎶🎵🎸🎸🎸
Saw The Jeff Beck Group at the Shrine Auditorium in L.A. while Ten Years After opened and the Moody Blues went on next unknown Rod was walking around in the audience not but a few feet away. After that night never forgot Rod or the Jeff Beck group. Amazing $3.00 TO GET IN.
An unbelievable "rare moment" to see and hear two legends: Jeff Beck an incredible guitarist and Rod Stewart a vocalist who gets better with age like fine champagne!
I just missed that moment yesterday!! at Holliwood Bowl. Didn't make it to the show due to mechanical failures during our 4 hr drive to LA....go figure!!! :(
God, this took me back. To August 19th 1967. The California Ballroom, Dunstable, England. With a few friends. I was there for one of the earliest gigs by the Jeff Beck Group. Jeff on guitar, Rod Stewart vocals, Ronnie Wood(later to join the Faces with Rod, and then the Stones) on bass, and the thunderous drums of Mickey Waller. They played two sets of half an hour each, and were paid £115 (about $140). I've never forgotten that night. It was incredible and under the low ceiling of the ballroom, f**king LOUD. Jeff arrived for the gig in a bright pink Chevrolet Corvette with Rod, it was all so Rock n' Roll. And here we have the two of them, in the other California, over forty years later belting out "I Ain't Superstitious" off the first album, possibly even better than before. Still hard to take it in that Jeff is no longer with us. The greatest guitar player that ever walked the earth, and by all accounts a real gentleman. Rest in peace.
Wow...wow...wow...I've heard this done by many people..even Joss Stone..she's talented, true, but no many can beat the soul in Rod's voice and Jeff's axe..excellent..
Here's a link to a TW appearance, opening for The Who just a couple three years or so ago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-04W5CMZUHZs.html&ab_channel=TalWilkenfeld
@@wtburns01 Amazing on bass...not so amazing as a singer. Her career has not reached a high level. She should stick to being a great bass player-for-hire.
Saw Jeff at FivePoint Amphitheater in Irvine this past Friday night. I finally have my own verification of all the raving I've heard about his shows. He is Paganini with a fine Stradivarius. What puts Rod Stewart on a special list is his respectful, honoring singing of the old standards.
Although Jeff has a reputation for not suffering those who don't have their chops together, he has shown himself quite willing to boost the careers of those he feels meet his standards, regardless of gender, etc. Tal was probably twenty in this clip, but she looks fifteen, but she certainly holds her own with these old dogs. She's a talent--let's wish her, and look forward to a long productive career.
