I rode my motorcycle half way across America in a day and a half. But why? Why would someone decide to put them through that many miles in one day on a Harley-Davidson? We travel from Big Springs, TX to San Diego and travel 1038 miles.

I've ridden from western NY to Lake Tahoe and back on my Heritage Softail. I averaged 630 miles per day. It was an amazing ride across America, passing over the Mississippi, through the great planes, the Bonniville salt flats, the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada mountains! I was 45. I'm 63 now and ready to do it again. Great video. Ride safe brother.

Hi from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Just come across your channel. I'm a 70 Yr old greybeard (but still feel like I'm 25), ride a Softail Custom, and love all things Harley. I'm a huge fan of the USA having lived, worked and travelled there over the years. Ridden Route 66 and Pacific Coast Highway, with plenty more rides on my bucket list! The American biker lifestyle is awesome. Ride Free 👍

I've done it countless times. When I'm cross country riding I leave a couple hours before sunrise. that way most of my ride is in sunlight, watching the sun rise is beautiful, and most of my ride is trouble free since most people don't hit the interstate until around 10:00am. I bought a 2015 Victory Vision a few weeks ago and knocked out 1000 miles before I realized it. After decades of riding mid-sized cruisers and transitioning to a full-sized touring bike full of accessories it's like rolling down the interstate on a couch!

Road to Sturgis from Albany, Ohio in 2003. 1430 miles. 2-days out, camped 4-days and 23.5 hours straight back home. Didn’t think about the Ironbutt until about a week later. I know and my friends know and that’s all that matters. Always enjoy the ride.

Rode from Houston Texas to Colorado Springs, just a little over 1k by the scenic route. To answer the question of WHY? I say why not?! The journey is the best part of every bike trip!

So far, my longest day in the saddle is 767 miles from Jackson, MS to Orlando, FL after a few days riding the Natchez Trace Parkway. I was so exhausted when I pulled into the garage, I said, “I’ll never do that again”. Great video!

I've never done an iron butt or a 1000 miles in one stretch on a bike. About 600 is my max on a bike. But I traveled the USA for 40 years in my work and pulled off many 36 hr straight runs with 30 minute driver seat naps. I enjoy your videos dude, keep em coming.

Just stumbled on this one Ryan...Awesome ride brother! My longest single day ride was only 756 miles from Missoula, MT to Deadwood, SD. My ass was sore for a week 🥵 It sure was a lot of fun though. I'm a big fan of your channel; Just discovered after watching one of your videos that I lived in your same neighborhood back in 2000. My exit was 57 and Magnolia...Small world. Keep the great vids coming, you make my winters bearable 😁

I've run 3 marathons and the Iron Butt definitely has some similarities. The last mile has never been my toughest, its always that 20 mile mark for me. That was the point where I knew I had already put 20 miles behind me and still have a 10k to run. Mile 20 was always my hardest mile.

Nice to see you battle thru for another grandy! Crazy how many swings we can go thru on a big ride like that. First couple hundred miles it’s like, gonna be out here all day, settle in. Then ya hit 5 hundy and it’s like, okay Halftime, here comes the second half. Then you get those spots that seems forever to get thru in your mind. And sometimes we get a second wind, and sometimes we’re telling ourselves, dude just pull over at Tacna and call it!!! Lol. Glad you pushed thru buddy! Always nice to wake up next morning and know it’s behind you; now let’s grab a coffee and go to the garage to see how dirty the bike is🤣🤣🤣🇺🇸

High on the lust of departure times is 1 hour or so before sunrise. Plenty of sleep and just a little darkness then a sunrise. Learned one thing riding thru New Mexico. The state line marker is a favorite of mine but the roads not so much. A riding buddy hitca pothole on the highway and his tourpak opened up. Lost a lotvof stuff including an electric heat vest. Now. All packs get locked

I was riding between Phoenix to San Diego 30 years ago, and was so hot, I was actually looking forward to the storm I saw miles ahead. But it went north before I got there, and all that was left were steaming roads. Then thru the Cleveland Forest it went from 100 degrees to about 45.

Going west you get a little more daylight. Made almost 900 miles a couple years ago. Left Cleveland Oh fairly early and pushed it hard to pass Chicago before rush hour. Stopped only for gas and was in Chicago about 1:00 pm. Kept going and stopped near Omaha NB shortly after dark. A good day. Had a plan if riding to the tip of South America (Ushuaia) about the 1st if the year but that has fallen through. My wife and all my friends are relieved. They worry about a 73 year old doing long rides.

How the hell are u 73 and still thinking of doing long rides sir!!! Im 24 and still worrying whether I should do a 400kms ride this weekend or not (I have a 300cc bike here in India)
@richardahola692
@richardahola692 7 месяцев назад
@@shashankmallamraju4271 riding in India is a world of difference from riding in the US on a Gold Wing. I can get on the freeway and cover a lot of miles in a day. When I am in Argentina I ride an old Falcon 400. It isn't very fast and roads are narrow and rough. I am planning a trip in January but will only go about 3,000 to 4,000 km total in one week. I wonder how many years of riding I have left.
@shashankmallamraju4271
@shashankmallamraju4271 7 месяцев назад
@@richardahola692 great to hear that, yeah riding here is different from USA, u have plain open long roads whereas we have different terrains, bad, narrow roads, and this isn’t as big as USA, cross country (from north to south) will be only 2.7k kms or 1800 miles I guess. But it won’t be open roads all the way. In my opinion a good 650cc bike is all that’s enough for India. I’m curious why many in USA don’t pick adv bikes and go for gold wing or Harley, any particular reason?

Ryan, great video sir, if you don’t mind, what kind of seat were you riding on ? And suspension? And anything on board showing your engine temperature(s)? This would help me with your feedback & your long ride and if my 2023 RG standard with stage 1 along with my Mustang Tour seat and standard suspension could do this long without stopping overnight.?. I’m planning on a long 2 up trip in a short time next year in March and get back to home in Houston before vacation time is up so not sure if “we” can withstand the pain like you did.
