The Lewitt LCT 441 Flex is one of the best microphones I've checked out on this channel! So let's see how it stacks up against the Rode NT1, my beloved condenser. We've seen it compared against the NT1a and other popular models, but the Lewitt is a true equal. The 441 and the Lewitt LCT 440 are some relatively new microphones that are bringing lots of cool new things to the microphone scene! Lets check them out :)

The reverse non-symmetric polar patterns are for facing the mic really close to something such as a guitar cabinet or other instrument and still maintain access to the polar pattern switches and display while experimenting with patterns in a particular application. Without having to move the mic to do it. Thus you can choose whether the pattern selector is on the back or front of a non-symmetrical polar pattern. This is a really thoughtful feature.

Enjoyed this as I’m thinking about getting two flex mics My interest is the figure 8 pattern for doing vocal and guitar with the smallest bleed over. One thing about the reverse patterns is so you can see the screen and change things if you have the mic pointed at a guitar amp or down into a piano to make sure you have the pattern you want or change the pattern with out moving the mic.

Great comparison and really nice contents in your channel. In the comparison I felt 441 flex sounded more rebound an less harsh compared to NT1. I have been suing an NT1-A for a long time for vocals and it comes out a bit harsh at times. Did you feel 441 flex less ‘harsh’ while comparing to NT1 as RU-vid audio can be a bit different.

I kept it cardioid to compare against the Rode NT1 fairly, but yes I regret not going through the polar patterns on the voiceover section, perhaps one day if I do an exclusive review of the 441 without comparing it to any other mic 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve had a Rode NT1A for over 10 years and I do like it. I noticed the “boominess” in the singer’s voice, where the Lewitt was more even. I liked the Rode better for guitar and there Lewitt better for vocals. Nice comparison!

When first I saw this video, I was prepared to neglect the 441 flex, not needing unusual pickup pattern. But, a super cardioid pickup pattern actually is great. It’s what made me fall in love with the Shure Beta 58A. But then again, the bonus I’d have to pay is quite a bit of cheese, I’m not sure, if that would be my cup of tea.

you would reverse the cardioid to the back of the mic because the front and back will have different frequency responses. Like a tone switch....do you see the use now?

I guessed right (for me), mic 1 seemed a little brighter and I preferred it. I like rode as a company and appreciate that they keep most production in their home country rather then racing to the bottom. However, I think their mics are somewhat overrated.

Ahhh I have 8 mics in my amazon cart!!! I grew up pretty poor so it's so hard for me to part with money even when I have enough. For a super girly voice with brightness and sibilance, it's hard for me to find a mic that makes me sound more grown up & less sultry. Even when I narrate a serious book like an exercise book or child development, I'm told "I never knew exercise could sound so sexy". While that may sound cool, it's not. It keeps my genres limited. Help! Choices: - Neat King Bee 2 - Rode NT1 - Shure SM7B - AKG P220 - Heil pr30 - Aston Spirit - Stellar X2 - MXL 770 Feedback would be helpful 😃 ❤
@AudioHaze
@AudioHaze 2 года назад
Hmmmmm, well you'll definitely want to darken your voice and probably utilize some pretty dramatic proximity effect, so I'm thinking the King Bee II may be a good option! Super dark, easy to get right up to the capsule and will have a nice proximity effect you can use the make your voice a bit larger. Its also a bit less sibilant than the Rode NT1, which you mentioned may be an issue. Super low self noise for VO too!

I didn't expect the NT1 having more highs and being more airy than the Lewitt. Surprising result for me. And yes, I also liked the NT1 better on the guitar, but for your voice I'd prefer the Lewitt.

This! I have the NT1 and it is by no means a bright or trebly/airy mic. If anything, most of the reviews I've seen of any Lewitt mic, dynamic and condenser alike, seem to portray an energetic top end. Was most surprised when the clearly brighter Mic 2 was revealed to be the Rode

Ricky, thanks for the video! My name is Claudio, from Brazil, I am a professional bassoon player, and a composer. I am looking for a multi-pattern LC to record my music: duets, cello and flute, bsn and marimba, fl and vbphone, string trios and 4tets, and woodwind/brasswind 5tets, and sonatas for and with piano. I very much like the sound of this Lewitt mic! I was looking into the AKG P420 or AT2050, and I was concerned that the LCT 441 does not have such a flat response for classical. I use a Zoom H5 and do not intend to post-process. I would very much appreciate your comment! Thanks a lot in advance, CdF.

Given the choice would it be better to go with a set of 440 pure mics or a set of 441 flex mics? I'm looking to record more between voice and nature sounds in pretty much all directions.
@liamstrain
@liamstrain 2 года назад
two cardioid can be done well for nature sounds in ortf - but the 441 will give you the option of also using them in spaced omni, which can be very nice for ambient/environment sounds. If I was between them specifically for that purpose, I'd opt for the flexibility of multiple patterns.
@AudioHaze
@AudioHaze 2 года назад
Yeah i would definitely go with the Flex, the multi polar patterns are going to be super helpful to get sounds coming from all across the mic.

reverse polar patterns not intended just to switch the side of the capsule but interact with the room acoustics in a more precise ways, just saying
@AudioHaze
@AudioHaze 2 года назад
Polar patterns aren't exactly limited to one single use. Polar patterns are just a directional signal of a mic. So yeah, it could be used to pick up the room in different ways (not necessarily more precise), but it could also be used for podcast scenarios, or any other application. Polar patterns aren't designed for one reason and one reason alone.

Lol I think It's the hardest decision i've had to make for my hardware... on some videos i prefer the lct on some i prefer the nt1... i ordered the nt1 but still having second thoughts. As a beginner i guess the nt1 is better bcs im gonna have a flat sound with no frequency accentuations so I will really have a flat sound to train with during the mix and It will help my musical ear develop more to recognize slight variations of frequencies... Idk if my reasoning here is good but I hope I made the right choice lol

I live in China and sadly, the Lewitt prices here are extremely high, no idea why. Example: Lewitt 440 pure goes for 259 euro in Europe, very good price. In China the same mic goes for .... around 493 euro. Yes, for that price you could even buy the 441 flex in EU and buy a table stand and get some fries. I'm extremely disappointed in Lewitt for this.
