I always had to be leery of the brothers. If the perceived need arose, they would have an easier time finding you out in town, and were more willing to act if they did. Wasn't a huge concern for me, because, I always treated GFs with respect, even when I was a little heathen. But, the worry was there. - Keith
I was quite upset with my older sister when I found out 6 MONTHS later that she had a guy she had turned down start stalking her and sending threatening emails to her current boyfriend from a fake email address. I think she knew how I would react and didn't want to have to bail me out of jail!
My dad met one of my sister's date's at the door. Big smile on his face, just beaming happily at this kid. He reached out a grabbed this boy and just hugged close then all at once kissed him on the mouth. The boy broke loose and was wiping his mouth when my dad told him "Just remember son, I have no problem doing to you anything you can think of doing to my daughter". And just so you know my dad was 6'4" tall and about 265lbs. My sister tells that story even today, and swears that the boy wouldn't even hold her hand, and there was no second date.
I love this song and it’s soft threat. I never had any men in my life who would do this for me, which is probably part of why I ended up in an abusive relationship for 5 yrs. The men in my life (brother and father) that were still here when I started dating just didn’t care enough to protect me. I’m told my maternal grandfather, great-grandfathers, and maternal great-great grandfather were very protective men. Way back in the day, two things were known about my maternal great-great grandfather: he was very protective of females and he always followed through on a “gun warning.” When my great-grandmother was a little older than toddler-age, her father found out about s. abuse going on between a neighbor and the man’s teen daughter. When the girl ran to my great-great grandmother for protection, my great-great grandfather met her at the door with his gun, told her go inside and sit with my wife and do not come out till I walk inside. It wasn’t a half hour before the abusive father showed up on the homestead and my gggf shouted at the man, whom was still a good distance from the house, that if he came to collect his daughter he best turn around and go home. The man continued to walk up to the house, screaming about how his daughter was his business and he’d drag her out bloody if he had to. My great-great grandfather cocked his gun, looked right at the man, and said “if you take one more step toward my house I’ll kill you before your back foot hits the ground.” The man stepped. My great-great grandfather wasn’t even charged. But the story got around. And he had two daughters who were treated very very very respectfully by their suitors and then husbands.
Funniest story I heard about a Dad "cleaning" his gun, the boy that came over was a firearms fanatic and immediately recognized the gun and started asking the dad about all the specs on the gun. They started talking guns and went on so long they ended up being late to their movie!
@@BourbonCountryReacts did you do that? That's funny! No the guy I was thinking about was a friend of a friend down in North Carolina! I imagine it's happened quite a bit over the years!
I always liked Bill Engvall's (Blue Collar Comedy tour) method. Met the young man at the door and simply said "I just want you to understand one thing. I have no problem going back to prison"
My dad is a retired state police officer. He wanted me (his daughter and only child) to be protected. He started teaching me to shoot before I was 10 years old and teaching me self defense at age 13. All he had to do was stare at a boy and they were terrified. Being a police sergeant in a small west Texas city helped too. 😂
Yup my husband and his best friend were both in the Marines. Husband used to be a sheriff deputy. His best friend is a civilian law enforcement officer on an Air Force Base. You can bet our daughter isn't going to take shit nobody and knows how to shoot. Got her first rifle at age 4.
It reminds me of a day in highschool where the dad came down (I assume to go hunting), with his shotgun. I didn't take it as intimidation, my first thought was "man nice gun, is that a mossberg silver reserve?". Me and him got along just fine.
whe this song came out i was talking to my nephew tholdest of my baby brothers kids i asked him if his daddy was going to be playig this song whehis younger sister starts dating he told me yeah but if he dont i will be cleaning dad mosin i said good boy
I saw Rodney a couple of times Live in concert, small venues, back around the time this song and “If You’re Going Through Hell” came out…he’s pretty good Live.
OH my Goodness.. my husband and his best friend met in the Marines and they both worked in the Armory. I have heard Sooo Many stories from both of them about thr Armory days. And my husband and his BFF still to this day clean all their rifles, pistols and black powder guns until they have No grey. Husband just did it last night because ge was shooting at the muzzleloading club shoot yeaterday. Semper Fi Marine. They were both stationed at Cherry Point.
My dad and younger brother were so known for hunting and having guns, that when a married man tried putting the moves on me, I just said "My dad or my brother...you choose who I call." And that was the end of that. He moved like the wind to get away from me. He really didn't have a choice, if he hadn't backed off, I would have called both. To be fair, all teenage boys are 'with stupid' but it's a phase that just last from about age 14 to age 89.
My Dad had a reputation in the neighborhood, partly because he was from West Virginia, had a gun collection, made custom gun stocks, and shot skeet in the backyard. So I do not recall him ever bringing out a gun to clean it when I went on a date. He also hunted: squirrel, rabbit, quail, etc. Yes, it was in the Army during the Korean War.
@BourbonCountryReacts There weren't many coal mines where he was, in Jackson County, but there were moonshines. My Mom was from Nicholas County and there are several around there. I would jokingly let people know that I could take someone to West Virginia where they would never be found.
Love Rodney Atkins! Saw him when he was just starting out at an outdoor concert and he was awesome. This is just one of his songs that are really good. Thanks guys!
i once bought my husband a shirt that said “D.A.D.D (dads against daughters dating) shoot the first one and word will spread!” he wore it when he would take the girls anywhere lol
It sounds really good, I'll try it out. My buddy sent me some apple pie moonshine. You can't tell there was a lot of shine but good Lord it was good. I used it in an Apple pie Carmel drizzle. 🎉
My cousin, dressed for her first prom, excited as hell, watched her date go down the driveway, scared off by her brother and a gun. Not funny when you’re the girl.
My Pop said when my Son was born "Whelp; you only got one little prick to worry about" when my Son was born. Next two were girls "Whelp; now ya got millions of little pricks to worry about" "HAVE FUN!" I just left random empty boxes of shells laying around the house when i knew a boy was coming over for dinner 😉
My brother did that to me . He was just 11 months younger than me. It didn't go over very well because just a year later he brought a girl over to meet the family. Well I told her not to get too attached because he was just 14 lol he was 16 and she was 17 . She looked at him and said I think I'll head back home . As she left she said lose my number . I almost felt bad lol naw I didn't .
5:45 not everyone has the same 20/20 vision either or sights left eye versus right eye. I’ve seen that with friends while shooting. 8:29 I had fathers do this to me and when my daughter gets to dating age my brother wants to recreate the scene from Bad Boys 2 with her date. I really like how in the song he says to have a “little” fun. Not too much.
Grew up in the country, so i've had this done to me more than once. About the 3rd time, when the dad held up the gun, i just said "Mine's bigger" and his face was Pricless.
A friend of a friend's dad this with his son who was gay. The son was going on his 1st ever date with a boy. The funny thing was is that the dad actually liked and got along well with the boy his son was going on a date with but just had to 'clean the gun' as the dad said that he had the right as a father to protect his child on a 1st date no matter the gender and let anyone who would date his son that he meant business. Should also point out that again the father did like the boy who treated his son very well so much that the boys are now married.
Lmao! As the mother of 2 girls, I have done worse. They told every boy, "My dad's big and grumpy, but it's my mom you've got to worry about." Challenge accepted!!! My oldest is 40, youngest 30, I still have boys who dated them who remember me.
My dad wasn't just what a boy had to worry about not that i went of dates as a teen but they would have to worry about 500 pounds of dogs and cats. 3 dogs. 75lb Lassie collie, 125lb gray and white malamute and a 150lb red and white malamute that looked more wolf than dog but 100 percent dog plus various cats all weighing over 10lb and very protective of my mom and i. Plus forget a gun although we have them we just use a cast iron frying pan that has been used on my dad when drunk.
My dad was a WW2 vet and would just tell my dates how he served under Gen “blood and guts” Patton and he was going to dust me for finger prints when I got home.
This will be me & I'm female. My son's almost 13 & my daughter's almost 9. If one of his friends even so much as look at my daughter sideways in a few years mamma bears gonna eat them like fresh salmon. I'll be watching the girls around my son 2 they can be up 2 no good also.😂
@@BourbonCountryReacts yes I know I use to have a crush on my bf brother way back in the day. Thanks for the comment, It's refreshing to know people actually care about those who watch their channel. Much love from Nebraska.
My dad never had to do this. Any boy i brought home, i showed him how fast i could put together my 22 survival rifle 😂 I got pretty fast lol. I don't have to worry about my daughter either, she has her own collection of throwing knives lmao
So I grew up listening to Classical music and some Christian music (mainly hymns and scripture songs). I got into country music in college and I'm finally feeling somewhat versed in country music. I know there are a ton of genres in rock music just like in country music. I haven't listened to a ton of rock and don't even really know where to start. I've heard and enjoyed Halestorm because I was super impressed by a duet Lzzy Hale did with Eric Church. What other groups would you recommend I start with?
Oh man, where to start. It might depend on how modern, and how heavy your tastes run. IIRC, you have a pretty serious musical ear, so, late 80s Metallica would provide a good baseline. I'd particularly recommend the Master of Puppets album. You're going to hear classical themes in it. Older, a little lighter (but not much) would be Iron Maiden. In particular, I'd point you to the Powerslave album. It combines classical and blues scales with some pretty wild history-based, and surprisingly intellectual lyrics. - Keith
@@BourbonCountryReacts awesome! I've heard of those groups, but I don't think I've ever purposely listened to any of their music! I just love music and want to expose myself to as much as possible! Music is a universal language of the soul IMO. I feel blessed to have been given a classical foundation as a child. I am frequently surprised when I find classical motifs in various genres of music. It's fascinating to me to see how many famous artists have a classical background before launching into their respective genres and styles.
As the daughter of a single mother, I didn't have a daddy to put the fear of God into the boys I dated. Nope, Momma did that herself, without ever once say'in a cross word. Most of High school I dated the same boy... and he was as interested in girls as I was, meaning not at'tall. ( I was a cover story, he kept guys from harassing me.) Anywho... mom... every other boy I brought home got to see mom's skill with a kitchen knife, which may or may not have been effective on its own... nope. It was the rusty knife that sat in front of the chopping block. Any ..I mean ANY country boy that grew up on a farm would know exactly what that curved blade was for. ( now-a-day's they use a clap tool and rubber band). It worked.. Momma never said a word, cause those that knew..knew, those that didn't, asked me once we hit the door. I had a lot of 1st and only dates after B went off to college. Great reaction!!
@@ChicagoDB I remember more than once threatening the gunners with significant violence if they fired blanks through the damned things in training. - Keith
