He would have said “Hey Carl, look at you hunting those Gophers you get no respect around here buddy. Bet you $1,000 that kangaroo steals your balls”. 😄😄😄.
@@theirishbandit7301 you actually have no fucking idea if hes a great dude you just assume he is just like people assume hes a dick but you dont really know him and neither do they so honestly he could be either or but the point is you have no fucking idea
Just found this video. It is so hard when you are interviewed by someone like this, who seems like a genuinely sweet, nice, lady, but God so corny and really out of it in terms of reality of what is funny. I will say each of these guys displayed sincere patience and class.
+NemeanLion /watch?v=bGeEAs4XCtg Look at this mess. But the interviewee (Tarja) is so charming that she could pull it off. Why not 4 LEGENDS? They could have least played off each other. But, there seems to be no chemistry between those guys.
@@jeffreymcdonald8267 he killed himself. He let the drug use go too far, became too disconnected. He was already upset over the release of Airplane!, because he considered it brilliant comedy and he knew Caddyshack wouldn't stand up to it. He was right, of course. Caddyshack opened very poorly, and it took years to develop the cult classic standing it has now. But at the time, Kenney saw this as a failure, and the one thing he feared the most in life was failing. It all ended up being to much for him to bear. What a sad loss of an amazing comic mind.
@@jaydee3730 I get it guy. But there is always 3 sides to every story... O event. Keep reading and learning. The truth is way stranger than fiction. As they say....
It was amazing how they got all four of those guys to do a movie together.. One, Chevy Chase and Bill Murry had gotten into a fist fight back stage just before they were to do a skit on Saturday night live.. And two Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight hated each other while filming Caddyshack, Ted thought Rodney was unprofessional and could not stand working with him.. I can not believe they pulled this movie off.
Ted Knight hated Rodney, probably over prejudice (since he was closer in age to Ted, Ted probably thought Rodney would be another responsible, experienced patriarch on set...but Rodney is Rodney) and over a specific incident... Ted Knight had come back to his trailer after shooting, only to find a huge DUMP in his toilet. He INSTANTLY blamed Rodney and vented toward/at Chevy Chase, screaming about how unprofessional Dangerfield was, and how he's an animal and that he can't work with him, let alone see him.... ....Unbeknownst to Knight; Chevy Chase has taken the dump.
I love all these Guys. I think Ted Knight is/was underrated. I recently was catching up on old Mary Tyler Moore episodes. I love the writing and acting of all of them but Ted Knight carried many of the episodes and I noticed he was the only person on that show (after seeing many episodes) who received applause after certain lines. I read that Ted Knight created that character and even wrote for him. At this point and time, every cast member of MTM is still alive, only Ted Knight is gone, passed away back in the mid-80's. Class act. Dressed well and acted well. RU-vid has many of the old MTM episodes. Quality isn't that great but watchable nonetheless.
Couldn't agree more. I'm a huge Ted Knight fan. That combination of writing and acting on the MTMS was just incredible, lightening in a bottle. But as with you, I felt Ted Knight made that show so much of what it was. He indeed created Ted Baxter and really poured his heart and soul into the role. Read a great bio on him recently. He was a bit tortured by his "Ted Baxter" persona at times... and also with the notion that fans believed Ted Knight and Ted Baxter were one in the same. In reality, Ted Knight couldn't be any less like Ted Baxter if he tried. He was a WWII hero, married to his wife for nearly 40 years with 3 children before passing away too soon at the age of 62 in 1986. Great actor with an interesting background who by all accounts, was a gentleman and all around very sweet man.
Love the MTM episodes for only one reason: Mary walking back and forth upstage showing us her pert little ass. That must have been the #1 rule for every director: "Mary's ass get's 20%". Go ahead and watch an episode and count the butt shots. Almost as good as an early Barbara Stanwyck flick. Of course Barbara's ass was on roller bearings and never stopped moving - even when she was standing still - but Mary's was right up there.
rawnga You can miss anything or anyone that brought you joy, regardless of whether or not you knew them personally. Rodney was "in our living rooms," and while we didn't get to actually meet or truly know the man, the man we did know is missed. Is it really that tough a concept for you?
Ted Knight mentions one of the things that attracted him to the film was the lack of money, that he could use a tax write off. Rodney in later years said he lost money doing Caddyshack, that he canceled more lucrative club dates to film his scenes.
I know people are piling on the fact this chick did a goofball interview, but the fact she wants to bond by asking them questions as if they're actually the characters makes this whole thing priceless. That's how a ton of interviews were conducted back then.
Watch it back. She's as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. She couldn't bond with these 4 dudes unless she took out her dentures and got on her knees. She should be interviewing Betty Crocker for fucks sake.
I just read the Making of Caddyshack book, so I’m glad this interview exists. It’s interesting to see a little bit of their actual personalities here. The book doesn’t mention this specific interview, but it does detail their get together at Dangerfield’s following the premiere. Doug Kenney, who was best friends with Chase, supposedly got up and declared that the movie was terrible (using more colorful language) and then passed out at his table. His parents escorted him out. It’s funny, in a way, but pretty sad he didn’t live to see the flick become the beloved classic it is today. I imagine this interview was part of the press junket they were doing that same day. Evidently, Knight was the only sober one on set, which estranged him from the others.
I did 'em! This had me laughing my ass off! Those four were acting like they were in front of the school principal, you know they wanted to bust out but they were trying to be on their best behavior.
In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Bill Murray said how much he liked Ted Knight, although Ted was a "square". I'm guessing "square" means things like Ted didn't do cocaine.
I heard that Howard Stern interview with Bill Murray as well, it was a good one! Ted Knight was a little bit older than most of that cast, except for Rodney. Ted Knight was said to have been one of the nicer guys in Hollywood. Straight laced, on the conservative side, married for 30 plus years with 3 kids when he passed away in 1986. He was also a WWII vet with a number of medals for bravery. Read his biography, he was an interesting guy.
“Wow. You must have really been something… before electricity.” RIP Rodney Without Dangerfield, there would have been no good outcome. Dangerfield is one of the reasons people keep watching it over and over. Knight was great too.
HA! like you could have that much confidence and bravado hanging around 4 legends like that. You'd crumble like a cookie and those comedic legends would eat you alive
The interviewer is Bobbie Wygant, the entertainment reporter for KXAS-TV, the NBC affiliate in Dallas-Fort Worth. As to all of the comments regarding her stiff interview style, yes, she has nothing in common with any of her guests here. But she's sort of a legend here in Dallas (just turned 92), so we cut her some slack.
doesn't say a lot about Dallas...are there other "women" in Dallas like this? She is so fake, it's a wonder she can talk but she seems oblivious to her own missing individuality. She needs to read more, think more, be something other than this stereotype of a 50's female.
The part at the end was fucking hilarious! We're gonna do the whole Osman family including the grandchildren in a minute and a half. Chevy: I did 'em! LMFAOOOO!!!!
This was quite a treat to find this. An era long since passed, but will forever be remembered. Rodney was too quick for Chevy's slight in the beginning. Rodney is the only true stand-up here as he hated acting, thought it was all bullshit. Chevy, at this time, was the biggest star with Rodney and Bill rising quickly. Ted Knight is a legend of TV and I thought made the movie and played off of Dangerfield masterfully. Chevy and Bill despised each other. Bill has had much better simpatico with the public than Chevy, who can come off as a bit of a tool. Still, amazing to see all four in the same room - very rare.
Bill replaced Chevy when Chevy left Saturday Night Live to become a Movie Star. The Critics and The Viewers favored Bill over Chevy. Chevy thought that he was irreplaceable !
Fascinating clip. I know an ex-lighting guy who worked with Chase closely in the 80s; described him as a total jerk. That shocked me, seeing how pleasant he was here and in other spots. CADDYSHACK is a favorite film of mine, always. Knight is one of the major reasons for that.
How NOT to do an interview! She had one of the most amazing opportunities to see talk to some of the GREATEST comedic actors of all time....and she BLEEEEEWWWWWW IT!!!!!!!!
DrLeroyGreen They hated each other, almost brawled on SNL. Chevy seems a bit nervous here and more concerned, whereas I'd say bill was more laid back, probably a bit high as usual, and there was a small tension between them but I felt he was less concerned with Chevy than the reverse.
Almost brawled is inaccurate, they did have a fist fight but Bill did most of the punching. Chevy was and from people's accounts, still is a huge asshole. I'm sure he deserved it. Bill is the man. Always was and always will be. I just read he was at the final Grateful Dead gig in Chicago and after the concert he stayed and joked around and helped clean trash with the groundskeepers. He's on another level.
Were you there? You heard fistfight, I heard almost. There was a live show right after and neither had a mark so the evidence supports no blows landed.
drmorb Apparently Belushi who was leaning on the door got in between them and broke it up. I believe it was Chevy who said on Howard Stern that he was impressed that despite Belushi's size he just threw himself in there before any punches landed.
