Michael O'Keefe told the story on TV one night that he still loved to play golf. Whenever he called famous private courses to see if he could play, he was refused. He told them he was a famous actor and that still didn't allow him access. Finally he gave up and said, "Okay I was Danny Noonan." They all said, "What time do you want to play?"
What's really scary is how this documentary was made 19 years after the movie and now, here in 2022, it's been 23 years since the documentary was made. Time keeps on slipping into the future! Seriously, this is my all time favorite film. It came out when I was in high school and I've seen it over 100 times. I'll probably still be watching it when they throw me in the old folks home.
Yeah, I think about that w/respect to Back to the Future. That movie came out in 85 and Marty McFly went back 30 years to 1955. But 1985 is almost 40 years ago, so we're further into the future from 1985 than Marty went backwards... Also, IMHO, Caddy Shack is the second greatest comedy of all time, after The Big Lebowski.
Worked at a golf store for a couple years and in the winter when there was no foot traffic, we'd put this in the VCR an hour and a half before closing. Could write the script out of my head.
It's weird seeing people get old and dying, and then realizing you're on the back 9 riding their coat tails. It's also weird reading other people's comments, relating, feeling like a kid and realizing that these comments aren't being written by someone in their 20s, but buy someone in their 50s and 60s.
After all these years, I still watch this movie on occasion. It's such an awesome movie! It will always be a classic in my life. Absolutely love these actors and the robotic gopher! R.I.P. Ted Knight and Rodney Dangerfield.
I still quote lines from this movie to this very day. My husband hates this movie, but I watch it every time I come across it. One of my favorite movies.
Caddyshack is one of those movies that flows so well and is so funny that by the time it gets to the country club dinner scene, you suddenly realize it’s been about half an hour since it started. It’s that quick and that entertaining. Yes, it’s a bit of a shame that the main story of the caddies got sidelined, but it’s so entertaining and funny enough that you can forgive the filmmakers for going that route. Finally, a shout-out to Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, Douglas Kenney and Harold Ramis. You are missed to this day.
My favorite comedy movie of all time. I've watched this classic countless times, and still laugh like it's my first time seeing it. Thank you Harold Ramis, and all of the wonderful characters who starred in this timeless master piece.
If I could have met anyone on the set I wish it would have been Harold. I've watched a lot of movies he's been in, as well as interviews. He seemed like such a kind, gentle, and very funny guy. I'm glad him and Bill reconciled before Harold passed.
This is and has been one of my favorite all-time movies (comedy). The actors were awesome, but my favorite part of this movie was actually quite philosophical. When Chevy Chase is talking to the caddie, Billy, and he says something like: "Billy, see your future. Be your future. Go get your future." Those words from all those years ago have always been my motivation in life, business and more. It works. For me, this is more than a cult movie, or "just" a comedy. There are many scenes that were so relatable from that era starting in 1980 (I was 24 yrs. old) when the movie came out. Many thanks to ALL the actors, directors/producers/staff for putting that movie on the screen. And last, the music by Kenny Loggins was perfect. I was already a big Loggins and Messina fan before that.
One of my favorite all-time films. Everyone did an amazing job. This was a great insight on how it came together. I think the key to its success was having brilliant talent and letting them run wild. It's what gave each character, character, instead of a script write forcing it upon them and everyone being created from that one mind.
Love this whole movie, every scene a gem ,from the exchange between Rodney and Ted's characters in the shop,to Chevy Chases character,a Zen golfer,"be the ball Danny, be the ball,to Bill Murray just doing what he does best, being a flaky character, this movie rocked-- and it exploded. And speaking of rocking, Kenny Logins,"I'm Alright", tops it off nicely,it had classic written all over it ,when it came out.😀😂😅😄😃😁
nothing since nor ever will beat the comedy era of movies from the 80's..... Caddyshack/Stripes/History of the World/Revenge of the Nerds/Vacation/Trading Places/Fast Times at Ridgemont High/Porky's/Stir Crazy/Sixteen Candles/Uncle Buck/Coming to America and the list goes on...
I worked as a Caddy and as a Busboy at North Shore Country club in Glenview in the north shore suburbs of Chicago. And everything we see in 'Caddy Shack' is exactly what went on at that country club.
I grew up across the street from Indian Hill CC. My dad knew the Murray family and told me that Bill Murray’s role was inspired from a caddy at Indian Hill.
Definitely the funniest golf movie ever made! Never gets old watching it. Just unscripted humor at its best! When I am playing g golf and manage to drain a long put once in a blue moon, I have to say. Nananana. Nanana. 😂😂😂😂
Backroads66 - you’re not the only one to think that: in Spain they have a Caddyshack Fiesta every year and France do the « la dans du Gopher ». Russia has changed the name of Moscow suburb Dnieprgrad to Dangerfieldgrad!
Back in the day’s when you could make a movie and nobody was offended! Caddy shack, Blazing Saddles, History of the world, Stripes, 1941, are all movies that could never be made today’s because people would be so butt hurt. And all those movies are hilarious classics. Oh, throw animal house in that list as well.
The funniest movie ever made, I still genuinely laugh my ass off even after seeing it at least 97 times. We even tried to replicate the spirit of the movie at Meadowlark Golf course in Huntington Beach right after it came out. What a fantastic group of people the made the movie.
I use that comment frequently and nobody gets it's because it was 40 plus years ago Use both depending on the situation...Don't ever try this but if anyone in a drive-thru ever said to me you'll get nothing and like it I would say let's get married right now
This movie is my earliest memories of movies. I still remember getting a hold of it somehow at the my grandparents at around age 4-6 and laughing my arse off even then. Something I'll take with me forever. The more I watch this the more I realise it was the gopher that dragged me in. But all the comedy legends in this shaped my sense of humor forever. Thank you everyone involved in Caddyshack. You grew a boy with a great sense of humour. 🐹🏌😂
1980... so I was 18 when I saw 'Caddyshack' for the 1st time, and very stoned of course.! I laughed so hard my face hurt, I cried from laughter and my stomach was sore..!! That simply doesn't happen anymore and younger generations will NEVER know the PURE JOY of a perfect 'Stoner Movie' and I'm happy that "we" got to experience that. Similar to the shear fear of watching 'Jaws' in 1975 and still being afraid of sharks to this day... It was a mechanical fish..!! I recently watched Jaws an Laughed Out Loud..!! But at 13, I was terrified.
I still swim in the ocean but it was never as free as before. The writers of Jaws could say “Made you look…” for the rest of my life and I stood in line for that. ☺️
Me and some of my buddies in High School (I mean HIGH), decided that the poor golf carts at the country club should be allowed to roam free at night. This was a couple years before Caddyshack. We got busted, and instead of charges, we painted the entire wooden perimeter fence around the property that Summer.
Back in the day, our A/V Company had a contact with Rolling Hill's CC in Ft Lauderdale and I got to see the daily filming 👍 Both movies were filmed at Rolling Hill's CC.
thank you to the entire cast & crew definitely set a very high watermark !still makes me laugh 60 now... was 19 then.....great to look back & smile though.............
My favorite story from this would be how Ted complained to Harold about Rodney leaving a bowel movement in his trailer. On his way to confront Rodney, Harold tells Chevy what happened and Chase says Rodney didn't do it; he did.
One of my favorite movies. The cast was outstanding. I think one of the producers that said the movie had "levels of comedy". From slapstick to very subtleties of comedy. All weaved together to make a hilarious movie.
It's heartbreaking to see Harold Ramis mentioning how Bill Murray and Chevy Chase had had fights with each other during their SNL days. At the time this interview was recorded, Ramis was still experiencing his own bitter falling-out with Murray... they hadn't been on speaking terms since Groundhog Day, and I don't think they ever really reconciled until shortly before Ramis' death. The guy left us far too soon. He seems so eternally happy and proud of his achievements in this interview. RIP
Wow I can't picture those guys getting into it. Every time I see them on camera, they're so comedic. You wouldn't think they have a serious bone in their body.
he and murray and chevy are brilliant. Especially Murray and Ramis. Thinkers. Doers. Theyre real fellas who made wonderful tings happen in this universe. Im sure Murray has feelings for his old friend. Im sure things are straight in the universe somehow. Dont dwell on what couldve been but appreciate what has been and hope the best for what will be. I love Bill Murray so damn much and Ramis is a mind beyond us. Still is. Chevy Chase....he cannot be the asshole they say he is. Hes awesome. He puts out a vibe and a certain sureness of himself but its not obnoxious. I grew up blessed to have these people in my life- as many folks did. Peace.
Cindy Morgan's passing really saddened me (she is only 9 years older than I.) Her career trajectory was how one came up in the 70s/early 80s but actors didn't have the potential longevity they have today. I hope she had a happy life RIP
In 1990 at 17 I meant this Girl coming out of an Arcade..So we start talking and somehow the topic came of who's ur celeb crush..Now most Girls were saying Jordan Knight,Brad Pitt,or whomever. She says "Bill Murray"..Right then I knew she was special..30 years & 4 kids later I was right..And I'm still crazy about her!
I was watching Rodney's 2hr biography about his life last night. A huge turnout to watch Rodney film Caddyshack from fellow comedians, and Rodney, filming his first movie thought he was bombing terribly because none of the Comics there were laughing during his scene. He told the director I reall suck. Then it was explained to Rodney that if someone laughs or talks during filming the take can't be used. Its amazing to me how insecure comics are & people in all walks of life.
We really need to have total confidence in ourselves and love ourselves unconditionally and not give a damn what others think about us. Just find ways or thoughts to feel good period.
I was born in Fort Lauderdale and I grew up learning how to play golf at the Country Club where they filmed Caddyshack. I have some of my best memories of my dad playing golf with him at this course going to the events and hanging out at the pool during the summer. The country club is still there Under New Management and a different name. They've remodeled the clubhouse to where it's almost unrecognizable unfortunately but that's what happens with time
I was only 10 years old when this movie came out. We saw it at the drive in and when my cousins we're all on the little playground playing, I was sitting on the tailgate of my uncle's truck laughing my ass off with all the adults. In my top 3 funniest movies ever.
18:20 From what Cindy Morgan has said in interviews, John Peters threatened to torpedo her movie career if she refused to appear nude in the film. Nice guy.
Really enjoyed this. I almost died watching this when I was about 12. I laughed so hard I couldn’t catch my breath, my dad had to do the heimlich manoeuvre to get me breathing again.
I heard some facts about the origin of CaddyShack. it was based on a golf course in Hawthorn woods Illinois. I think Doug Kenney worked there. It was called Indian Creek. I worked in that area in 2000 and played that course many times. (Ironically the caddies did get replaced with golf carts.) I was playing jagermeister golf one day and my buddy was driving the cart. On the 18th hole, there was a bridge that went over Indian Creek. He passed out, missed the bridge, and drove us right into Indian Creek. Good times.... What's really ironic is that a developer bought it and built condo's.
I was a Caddy, for a very short time, at the Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Il. This was back in 1975. The Caddy Chief was a Guy named Loughlin. He was a real SOB. Sort of like Brian Doyle Murray's Character in the film. If there was a napkin or candy wrapper on the floor, he'd walk by and tell someone to pick it up, just like Lou Loomis did. He berated the Caddies alot. There was a Mentally Challenged Guy there named Charlie, who was one of the Caddies, and this Loughlin Guy would pick on Him, etc. I kinda wonder if Lou Loomis was based on that Guy, Loughlin?
I remember i was such a huge fan of Chevy Chase during this time..and he was so wonderful in this..but the whole cast was so good..❤..funny funny movie..they dont make movies like this anymore..
Sorry Doug Kenny wasn't around for the commentary. Caddy Shack and Animal House, we will never see the likes of these films again. Harold and Doug were the geniuses here. Dozens of films tried to copy them later, they all fell short.
Thank you Jeannie Marie prince for seeing Caddyshak with me in 1980. We dated for 6 months you 15 me 19.your mom treated us to great seafood at Castanolas on the Redondo beach pier. Always luv you always miss you.
I love this movie today just as mush as the first time I saw it. I named my son after Ty Webb, lol. Tyson Nicholas Webb after the luckiest, coolest guy in the world, lol. Stripes & Ghostbusters and even the cameo in As Good As It Gets, Harold Ramis (R.I.P.), like John Belushi, Chris Farley & John Candy were so funny.
Before he was putting Thanagarian Snare Beasts in Superman Lives and Wild Wild West, producer Jon Peters was putting gophers in golf movies. Only in that case, it worked.
cannonball it! ..... Carl (or a younger Murray)reminds me so much of my friend Ben. He even looks a lot like a young Murray. I kid you NOT. With the exception of the dirty clothes and drooly voice - ya got my friend Ben. Such a great hilarious fella. I adore them both.
