Excellent video as always man! My Ally X arrived last week and I have had a blast playing with it. Coming from my Steam Deck OLED, the sheer brute force power is a trip; I’m emulating PS3 games and playing games from every store like it’s nothing. Windows is clunky yes,- but somehow not at bad as I expected it to be. Armory Crate does a lot of the heavy lifting. The battery life is a highlight - you don’t worry about it - you just game. I’m really liking this device - even if it has given me a much better appreciation for how much the Steam Deck gets right with simplicity. They’re both great devices with different strengths. Good time to be a gamer.
Try bazziteOs though i heard that windows still has better battery life. Plus how does it feel to hold compare to the steam deck oled and was no oled a dealbreaker compare to this rog ally x screeN?
@@Ifalvarado I toyed with the idea of installing Bazzite, but decided not to since I'd still be keeping my OLED around. How does it feel to hold? Oh the Steam Deck is way comfier - mostly because it's lighter. Ergonomics aren't bad on the Ally X, but you can hold the OLED for hours and not feel a thing. This boy is chunky. And for the screen, I find myself not missing OLED/HDR at all. VRR is such a great feature that I no longer have my fps up while gaming - this sorts it out. Plus for what it is, this is a nice, crisp screen. The OLED is taller, this is sharper. Again, oranges and apples 👍🏾
💯 did the same as you. Dualbooting Bazzite as well and it’s been a great experience so far. Armoury Crate and Windows took time to adjust but don’t regret switching to the X
I am thinking of buying one of the devices, which one would you recommend in terms of portability and battery life? I will use them mainly on long flights.

You should’ve bought the ally x its stronger, faster, more fps and has more battery life and that’s not including the armory and future performance updates
Thanx a million for this vid. Real performance doesn’t give a shit about specs and theoretical performance. This shows the awesome power of the ally x. I might have to get one now
Good video. One suggestion put the quality of the graphics below in every game when it appears on the video for 3 seconds. So we now how much resolution and quality graphics get you with that performance. For example you show forza, and below put 720p medium.
Hey man! Which settings and resolution do you use for No rest for the wicked? I check your other videos but I couldn’t find anything about that. Thanks.
Hmm i love my legion go but I’m jealous of ally x battery life. Do you think it’s worth it if i sell my legion go for 50% of the price and get the AllyX? Or should i just wait for legion go 2 which probably comes out in 2-3years time?
This depends on where you use your device. If it’s just at home then stick with the legion go, however if you use it whilst out and about then sell the Legion and get the ally x because the battery is significantly better. I used my legion go on a flight to the Caribbean was a 9 hour flight, had to use two power banks to get about 5 hours of game play, just replaying the ME legendary edition. Then flew to Dubai, which is 7 hours used the Ally X which by itself lasted around 5 hours. Negating the need for me to use the power banks as I slept the other, but if I did I could easily played the whole flight!
I'd like to think Lenovo have a newer device coming out in 2025 but could be wrong, I don't think they will wait 2-3 years especially when the market is so competitive and becoming more so. I'd probably say wait and see what gets announced in the next 6 months, especially for newer chips on the horizon.
having played a lot of games on ally x, how confident are you that it can handle future AAA games in current gen? currently wondering how future proof it is
I'd say its fairly future proof due to the 24GB RAM but 2025+ AAA games will need to be played at Low settings with FSR3/XeSS until a newer chip is released like the 890M or above. 32GB RAM would be even better of course, although games like Dragon Age 4 and Black Ops 6 will definitely be playable on the Ally X with reasonable performance.
16:50 did I see 50 fps without a stutter on Frontiers of Pandora ????? The games that makes OG ALLY,LEGION GO,and other handheld bleed even on the lowest possible setting in the game?????? Or was there a stutter??
I used to think how games are becoming demanding and how to get a decent 45 fps I would need a very powerful system which would be very costly as I am not a professional gamer and for me gaming isn't everything but a small part of my life that makes me happy as I play for the enjoyment, the story and fun,to have some different experience apart from my everyday life but the handheld is making me think otherwise And it's portable so I can play here and there, everywhere. Good job Asus
Hi there thanks for your comment! Each game has its full video with more releasing over the next several weeks, please see my full playlist for the ROG ALLY X here! ❤ ROG ALLY X Playlist Full Videos & Settings - bit.ly/ROGAllyXDW Have a great day! 😊
The 24GB RAM is nice, we get less stutters in games and we can crank Textures up to High/Ultra in AAA games without getting a performance penalty, with 16GB RAM this is difficult to achieve. Battery life for AAA games in my testing was 3 hours for 17W and 2 hours for 25W. The Legion GO's 8.8 inch screen with the ALLY X specs would be incredible though, the GO screen makes a big difference. What are you looking for in terms of a handheld?
I think we can use Universal x86 Tuning Utility or Handheld Companion but this isn't something I have tried myself yet. Hopefully someone else with experience sees your question and can provide a more detailed answer! Thanks for stopping by ❤
having 8GB of Ram for the GPU and 16 for the system has made a big difference. I love the OG Ally but it does get micro-stutters sometimes. The Ally X has been very smooth for me. It's a more refined 'Ally Pro' version of the Ally. And it's more comfortable to hold.
Battery life is always in the top left corner in the diagnostics. For AAA Games in my testing 3 hours for 17W 2 hours for 25W Games like Hades 2 we can get Max FPS at 1080P with 5-6 hours battery life. Indie games at 720p we can get up to 9 hours although I need to test this claim more.
Quality and resolution is variable, you can check out my full playlist here which shows settings and more detail below! Have a nice day 😊 ROG ALLY X Playlist Full Videos & Settings - bit.ly/ROGAllyXDW
Hi not to familiar with the new video games. I’m the old classic gamer like the first Nintendo and Sega Genesis. Anyway I’m thinking of getting this for my son for Christmas. Are these games bought or downloaded? Are they free? Sorry if I sound dumb stop playing a long time ago.
Heya, all games are bought either on Steam, Epic Games, EA Play, Ubisoft etc. Or you can access 100s of games with a PC Game Pass subscription which the ALLY X comes with 3 months free.
I really like portable gaming and was about to sell my Ally and buy Ally X as an ultimate current gen gaming machine but from what I see specially Dragon's Dogma 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 occasionally dipping below 30fps we are not there yet and I should wait... What do you think?
DD2 and BG3 are tough games to run well on handhelds, I think next year we will see some improvements for those 2 games. DD2 needs more optimization from Capcom but they seem reluctant to do so and BG3 gameplay is from Act 3 the most demanding area of the game. The 24GB RAM is really nice on the Ally X and provides games alleviation when it comes to memory management compared to the Ally, we can have 16GB used for the game and windows, then also have the remaining 8GB filled for VRAM by having our Textures on Ultra which is the case in almost every game shown here 😊 Hope that helps and you have a great day!
@@DeckWizard I really appreciate your clarification thank you. But let me ask, from your testing has any other games other than Dragon's Dogma 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 dipped below 30 FPS? Also will CPU Boost help with those games? Thanks alot ❤️
If this can handle GTA 6, it would change the world. It would be massive, the biggest game release in history, and everyone would be playing everywhere all the time!
We'll have to wait until late 2026/2027 until we get a PC port, by then we will have new chips and 32GB RAM minimum as standard. I'd love to try GTA6 on the Ally X for fun though if it still works with Windows 11 or 12 and supported drivers.
Depends on the balance of performance and quality within settings, you can check out my full video for MW3 on the channel and linked in the playlist inside the description 😊
Wattage is always displayed in the top left hand corner of the screen on the diagnostics Either 25W or 17W 😊 check out the full playlist for more detail!
I think all 5 would be a stretch but is there 1 in particular? I have quite a few Gears of War videos on my channel, done them all across various handhelds.
Definitely recommend checking out my full videos & settings playlist here - bit.ly/ROGAllyXDW Was there a particular set of Games you were interested in? The Ally X can switch output easily at 720P/900P/1080P 😊 720P will give us higher FPS in most cases ❤
