I am a Rafa fan but there is a different and equally special quality about Roger. Its as if he descended from Olympus to play tennis. He is the epitome of grace on and off the court. The tennis community will mourn the loss to the game the day he retires. Universally loved and rightfully so
@osmanhaq9594
@osmanhaq9594 2 года назад
You know, I was always a Fed fan, and Rafa I imaturishly hated, but over time, Rafa has the same quality, purely unique to him that I cherish. Djoko to me is Rafa perfected over all courts, skill wise. Mind wise he is a beast but a successor to Fed/Nadal's legacy
@thesoccergod
@thesoccergod 2 года назад
@@osmanhaq9594 Well...that's debatable. Rafa has _clearly_ got the greater racquet-skill and the greater variety. (His net game is suspect and his serve has never been great, but he rivals the Fed in his shotmaking quality.) The Djoker, on the other hand, is an attritional baseline player who excels at winning. He has one shot of unique quality - his *_sublime_* return of serve. And then there's his "attacking flexibility", that separates him from the other baseliners of his generation, including Nadal. But, these aside, the Djoker's tennis is mostly just steady, occasionally metronomic even. He also excels at tennis's most basic element - *_getting the ball over the net_* . However - *no* , the Djoker _does not have the skill_ of Rafa (leave alone Roger). But he _does_ often seem preternaturally "nerveless" (I prefer this to "mental strength")...and I think it's very likely the result of always being the less-preferred player by the crowd. I don't suppose it can be nice to have almost the whole crowd against you, but it can certainly act as a spur besides allowing you to play with a "nothing to lose" attitude. Speaking of "nothing to lose", people need to understand two things. 1. The Fed is as beloved as he is because he single-handedly created a previously-unimagined aesthetic for tennis. Years before he became a fashion icon and began to hobnob with the likes of Anna Wintour (and created what his detractors derisively call his 'PR machine'), he had already created his "brand"; namely, *an unprecented kinaesthetic grace that attracted **_all_** watchers* and showed there _is_ a general agreement among human beings about what constitutes athletic beauty and elegance. 2. Almost always being the crowd's hero and having them root for you cannot be easy. It makes you feel almost obligated to win. And for someone like the Fed, who's naturally given to "nerves", this has _not_ always been to his advantage...especially against the Djoker. USO 2011, USO 2015, and Wimbledon 2019 are three matches that come to mind.
@thesoccergod
@thesoccergod 2 года назад
"Descending from Olympus" makes Federer sound like an _avatara_ (or incarnation)...which is precisely what he is! Tennis incarnated itself and found fulfillment in the Fed. The greatest _all-court_ player there's ever been and the apotheosis of tennis's kinaesthetic. A true *_never-before-never-again_* phenomenon.

@@thesoccergod Rafa has a suspect net game??????????? in what world mate?
@thesoccergod
@thesoccergod 2 года назад
@@IRenegadEEEEE Rafa usually approaches the net wisely (though rarely) and on his own terms. What I meant by _suspect_ is, that, were he to be drawn to the net, his game there is not so proficient that he's guaranteed as many points as at the baseline or midcourt, say.

Novak will probably end up as the most decorated champion in the sport. But the "greatest" is arguable for a reason. On numbers alone it would remain arguable. But it's not numbers people come to see, or will remember, as much as how Roger Federer played tennis . In this regard nobody comes close . He has a bigger stamp on this game than there will ever be. What is greater than that ?

I was glued to the screen for the entire video's duration. Pure emotion! The last bit was so brilliantly done. Federer wishing he could change one moment- and as he's about to serve at 8-7 40-15 in Wimby 2019 final against Novak, it transitions to him hitting the winning ace in RG 2011 semis. One of the best tributes on your channel ❤️

You don’t no how emotional I got watching this, I was always a hardcore Federer fan. 8 Wimbledons, 20 Grand Slams , over 100 ATP titles, what a career. I don’t care if a player gets 80 grand slams, I will still say that Federer is the goat. He basically reinvented tennis, gave us something to look at, unlocked a level that nobody knew was there. Honestly I kind of thought that he could have played forever because of his endurance and such but oh well. He also had some of the best sportsmanship I’ve seen, I mean I have never seen him broken a racket except for the scene shown in the video. Brilliant Roger, Brilliant 🫡☝🏻👏🙌🫶🏻

The class, the talent, the elegance, the skill & the sportsmanship of Roger Federer is unmatched in the world of tennis! I am also a devoted Rafa fan (the only player to hold number 1 ranking in 3 different decades), Margaret Court (with a record 64 Grand Slam tournament titles, including a record 24 singles titles, 19 women's doubles titles and a record 21 mixed doubles titles) and Rod Laver (world number 1 from 1964-1970).

I’m so lucky that I warched him play at his prime, watched all his moments , up and down, win and lose. For now I just want to watch him plays, the title is not important anymore, just play Roger, and that’s enough. Miss his backhand and his movement so much
