When Federer missed that final backhand that gave Djokovic the trophy I swear the commentator sounded like he was crushed that Federer missed it but remembered he had to maintain his professionalism 😂
lol; I'm a Fed Fan when he plays against his 2 GOATS rivals, but I noticed that, and I'm a Broadcasting Graduate who's not 100% comfortable & cool w/ any twinge of partial analysis: when that happens & it has w/ others on the Mic, w/ Chris Evert being among those who have been guilty of such atrocities, it takes away from the other player's accomplishments during the flow of play
This is the most underrated final ever. The quality of the shots, how they move, how they return, how they serve, the drama… Top 10 match of the century without a doubt.
@@funkymonk4586 haha well I'm a fan of both of them, as well as djokovic. I never understood the hate between fans tbh, I just like watching quality tennis
As Djokovic won his 20 GS, many of us are watching these old matches... as a way of apologizing to Nole, for having looked down on him all these years?
@@johnsain Anti-Djokovic crowd is just too bad. I'm a Fed fan, and even when I say that it is took for something wrong. Saying that I'm a Fed fan, means that my favorite player is Federer not that I hate Djokovic.
There are three certain things that happen when novak faces roger at Wimbledon. 1. 99% of crowd get behind fed. That 1% being Djokovic box 2. Djokovic falling to the ground during the match 3. Djokovic’s mental strength paying dividends therefore comes on top.
One of the most important victories for Djokovic in his career, had he lost it he might not have reached even 10 majors, it was a huge turning point for him. He has lost 5 out of 6 of his last major finals coming into this final(overall record was 6-7), and won 11 out of 13 since this final, huge turn around!
@@aparajitkr2870 Of course its possible that this match would not have played such a big role even if novak lost, but however considering djokovic had to beat federer a few times during some of the nesxt few slams, if federer had the mental advantage over djokovic its very likely djokovic would not have resolved his mental problems at GS finals, maybe he even would kept losing murray in finals. We will never know how things would have turned out.
@@henrylister5530 Djokovic has no fans in nyc They all were cheering for history, this was and probably will be the only match in ny where Djokovic had crowd support
This was the match which made me realize that Novak could go on to become greatest of all time. Something changed in him after this match. Mentally, he became strongest player to ever play.
Idk for me his 2011 season stablished him, even with the few lows between years everytime he was in good form It meant a solid and dominating season since then
As the years roll by I become more and impressed with Nole's mental game even more than his constant drive to improve. I'm a Fed fan (Rafa too of course), but Novak is the most complete player I've ever seen play tennis.
I used to hate Djokovic before Wimbledon 2019 epic battle , after that i came to know he's the best , i am basically a fedal fan but this gladiator won my heart , now i regret why i hated such a champion and the greatest of all time. ❤ and respect the serb from a die hard Federer fan. No shame to admit he's the best and will break all the records in no time.
This could be considered a major turning point in Novak's career. He was 1-5 in his previous 6 Slam finals (2012 RG: lost to Rafa, 2012 USO: lost to Murray, 2013 AO: beat Murray, 2013 Wimbledon: lost to Murray, 2013 USO: lost to Rafa, 2014 RG: lost to Rafa). One wonders what the mental impact of losing ANOTHER GS final might've had on Novak, had he also lost Wimbledon 2014. But he banished his GS final demons, which is why he looked more overjoyed and relieved when this match ended and he collapsed to eat the court, than perhaps in any other GS final. And then he went on a tear of winning GS, and his mental strength became a frightening force (he was already very mentally strong here of course, but it seems he took it up a notch thereafter).
That stretch of matches included Rafa at the French (twice) and Murray at Wimbledon. The net touch cost him the French (as he lost his cool after being up a break in the fifth set) and all of England was cheering against Djokovic (and he lost in straight sets to Murray). Those are outliers in terms of context. Yes, he clearly figured out how to peak for the slams MENTALLY and PHYSICALLY.
that eating the grass moment is one of the best of novak. honestly if a movie ever gets made on novak then that will be sort of a highlight moment of movie.
@@gqnelly Novak ran into the net when up a break in the 5th set against Rafa in the 2013 FO SF, not in the 2012 or 2014 finals. Who knows how the 2013 SF would've turned out had he not steamrolled the net.
@@lamontviolante Djokovic could have easily straight set Federer since he had set points in every single set they played in 2014 and 2015. If Federer ‘choked’ in 2019, so did Djokovic in 2014 and 2015, the only difference is the winner stays the same.
Unpopluar opinion, but with a 3-0 H2H in Wimbledon finals, I just cannot put Federer as the best grass court player. Yes in terms of playing style he is by far the best to watch, but in terms of winning the biggest match it has to be Djokovic
@CR7 Frauderer never had to deal with the court, Novak has always gone against the court and won a lot, Frauderer with the people in favor has a cold chest and has wasted 2 championship points, imagine if his entire career had been against the court like Noval, won 10GS and is thankful because he has a cold chest, like many more examples, such as USO semifinal vs Nole with 2 match points. And speaking of Frauderer, he seems arrogant to me, when Nole beat him in Canada 2007 he said that it would be the biggest thing he would win against him, also when he came back in USO 2011 he said that his rest was luck, Frauderer disgusts me, too much, that deified image disgusts me
I am huge Djokovic fan and wants him to win most GS but I miss Roger on tour and when i think what It would be like when these 3 greats finish their careers, i don't really like that picture 🙏 we all are very very lucky to have seen the 3 goats ❣️
We are going to miss all 3 soon enough and will look back with fondness at what we had for 15+ yrs! Think of the legendary matches that these guys played; not only with each other, but with others as well. The great matches between Wawrinka and Novak! Del Potro and Roger! Kyrios and Nadal!
The returns from djoko in the last two federer service games were out of this world and scary good. The returns from djoko were coming back harder than federer's serve. Normally serving would be an advantage but against Djoko it's a disadvantage. It's scary for any player to serve against Djoko. Federer is the best server ever and got out of trouble many time before in his career because of his serve. However, djoko' s return is even more potent as he has proved so many times against federer in the GS finals.
@@viksinha5410 ironically, in the last 2 years or so federer has looked the strongest i have ever seen him play, specially with his neo backhand and changing to larger frame racket. His serve, forehand, volley and footwork is still as good as it was before. While unfortunately imho nadal's game is less potent now than b4 as he cant run everything down as he use to. Nadal's speed and court coverage was as good as Djoko's now. Nadal has to rely more on offensive power game now which makes him more entertaining to watch.
I would not disagree, if i was to serve out a match I would definately pick Sampras, Federer would be my next pick. Federer has a better all-around game though, even Sampras calls him the GOAT.
i love how that one commentator is so pro- federer its sickening, and then he and nearly all the crowd havw to endure the federer loss. but, from a tennis standpoint, a very entertaining match played by 2 great champions.
@Keir Felt great. Roger Federer, almost 38 with very poor knee health, took Novak Djokovic, the supposed "greatest ever" to whom everyone else pales in comparison, to five sets, playing better with regards to every possible statistic for the entire time, with Novak relying on nervousness from Roger during tiebreaks to win the match. Roger had set points in all five sets. He hit more winners, won more points, was moving better, and did everything right - Nole was being dragged along most of the time. The only thing Roger did wrong was not closing the match out, which, again, was nothing to do with the supposed "GOAT", and more to nerves. A little bit embarrassing for Novak, really, being given a tennis lesson by Grandpa.
@@Removehandle not really there head to head is very close, rafa still leads 10-7 in slams ,also 2-1 in us open, so it is very close but recently close mathes go novak way thats a fact, but rafa always come i hope he will do it again
When Roger lost this Final I saw him a little differently. This is the second time he lost a Slam Final in his own backyard (2008 as well) when he was in really good form. Nadal is 12-0 at the French, and Djokovic is 8-0 at the Australian.
@juneaug Lok oh roger getting thrashed in slams by Novak since 2012 Wimbledon Roger at 39--20 slams Novak at 33--17 slams U know what is going to happen keep crying Already has 8 masters more than roger in fact O Monte Carlo,O Rome titles whereas Novak won all TWICE ATP finals-5 just 2 more to have the record No.1 weeks 289 and going will be broken by March next year 😭😭 Keep crying
He is the goat. He has beaten the greatest grass player at Wimbledon. He has beaten the best clay player at Roland. He will win more slams. He is already the goat in my eyes. And a wonderful human being as well
Sampras undefeated in Wimbledon finals. Now they were screwing w ball weight and fluff after sampras. However if they sent fed Nadal Djokovic back in time to play a motivated Sampras at Wimbledon Im sure they would have lost
Alcaraz really did Fed a favour this year at Wimby. He essentially saved Fed’s goat status on grass. If Novak had won then Fed would have no longer been the greatest grass player of all time, but because Novak didn’t, Fed still has the most Wimbledons, but I think Novak will win Wimbledon for the final time next year though.
What a classic match! Superb athletes these two, among of the best all time, whatever sport, and magnificent artists as well. And what fine raw models they are!! Applaus to both Nole and Roger and thanks to the AELTC/ Wimbledon for this great upload!
I think Federer played better in 2019 though. He seemed to have more fight in him. Djokovics level here in 2014 seems better and overall seems more in control of the match than in 2019. Federer was the better player for most of 2019 match yet still lost it. Overall though, it’s a shame that federer wasn’t able to win even at least 1 of their finals from 2014/15/19.
@@SupermanOG Fed was more tough mentally in 2019 final even though he lost 3 tiebreaks and ... but he served like 5 times idk to stay in the match, it was all the time pressure on him, but he served well and didn't show much emotion not like 2014 he came back and when he was serving under pressure, he cracked at the first time and lost the match.
He literally is the most strongest mentally. Unapologetic... Besides the Adria tour thing and hitting the lady with ball on accident, I can’t see why Novak is disliked..
After the 4th set both commentators giggling... But Djokovic is the Master of erasing fedfans hopes. It's amazing how Federer managed to lose their last 3 Wimbledon, 3 USO and 4 AO meetings with all that crowd support behind him...
Easy to understand when Djokovic and Federer's peak are completely separated ffs. A guy won 1 slam till 2010 while the other had 16 by 2010 and is 6 years older. Post some stats which make any sense.
@@russelstephan6342bro show some RESPECT, it could be Vice Versa also Joker could have been thrashed also if he belonged to the same era of Federer. Leaving French 🍟 Open Federer was invincible from 2004 to 2009
This is one of most important wins in novak's career, he had lost many finals since winning Australian open 2013, his slam finals record was very bad ,losing close matches since than finals and semi finals. This match gave him believe once again.
They did alot of great mental work together with Boris Becker. Becker did great work together with Nole. Magnus Norman improved amazingly Soderling and Wawrinka, Becker worked great with Djokovic.
"Djokovic silencing the biased and toxic crowd is one of the most satisfying things to watch" - From Wimbledon to the USOpen to everywhere.. the hater's tears are glorious!
I love when Novak beats Roger at Wimbledon, just because of the hostile crowd wich lack respect. The season 2020 would be epic for Novak but then Corona struck. #idemo
It is so gratifying to watch Nole win in such a hostile environment, love watching him disappoint the no-good pompous Wimbledon crowd.........his return of serve is the difference maker. He returns it deep and with pace, what a weapon... Bravo Nole!👍☝👍💪🦾👍🙏
Djokovic 💯 ✔️ is the game- changer..... the show- stopper. Hats off to his grit, perseverance, persistence and consistency ofcourse along with resilience (with such skewed audience). ❤️✔️💖
Djokovic didnt choke...Federer played out of his mind ! This match is the vest grand slam match the olayed agaisnt each other ! Both were at their best! Federer made 29 ue for like 70 and more winners the same for novak ! Wich is for a five setter very low. Then 23 aces by Federer and 70 % of first serve thats unreal ! Novak return was out of this world in tvis match and broke Federer like 3 times ( and thats a lot cause with the quality of serve of Federer not many could have done it)
@@romainmj7245 Federer was not at his best; he was on and off. He played pretty passively for some stretches (especially the fifth set) and out of his mind in some stretches (end of 4th set)
@@boxerboy860 Did I say that either of them played perfect tennis? No. I said that Federer played too passively in the fifth set. The rest of the match he played well.
Boy oh boy this summer is gonna suck. It should’ve been the best summer of sport since 2012 but now it’s gonna be the worst of all time! This was a stunning match and remember it well. Love Djoko and can’t wait to see how many more grand slams he can win
This guy: shared record 22 Slam, record 370+ weeks as world number one, record 7 year end world number one, record 38 masters, shared record 6 ATP finals titles
I agree some says short primed Federer was the most talented player in terms of tennis skills however he would not even make the top 10 in terms of mental strength.
This final, Wimbledon '19, Us Open '10 and '11 will always be the deciding "package" where Djokovic showed brilliance under pressure and titled himself the GOAT. If Federer converted all those match points and perhaps didnt gift this Wimbledon '14 final in the last game by unforced errors, Federer would easily be considered the GOAT with not 20, but 24 grandslams equaling even women's record. But gifting all those titles from unconverted match points easily swings the history into Djokovic's favor, as Federer couldnt beat him in a grandslam match since Wimbledon 2012. And that is just way too many matches lost to put Federer above Djokovic.
Edberg and Becker faced each other in the Wimbledon final 3 years in a row, 1988-1990. Now facing each other in yet another Wimbledon final, as coaches.
i hate how tight federer gets at crucial moments in big matches, for the second half of that fifth set he was soo passive, just hitting back his backhand with no pace at all floating back his forehands, the only aggressive thing he was doing was coming to the net but that wasn't working as much because he wasn't pushing on good shots, the reason he was able to overcome nadal 2017 was because he did the opposite in the fifth and went for it, in 2019 he was far more aggressive but than in the big moments was too aggressive
It is indeed his weakness. I have watched his top games form the past decade since the 2008 Wimbledon, and it is clear if he wanted to win like Nadal and Nole, then it would have been a no brainer. I think he really subconsciously sees himself as also the king and eventually becomes laid back when he has to push it all the way in crucial moments. In quite simple terms, HE is the ULTIMATE sportsman in every sense of the word, which is why he is the most famous and most loved tennis player. However, he is not the ultimate competitor, Nadal and Nole edge him out on that, but they don't possess the level of entertainment and sportsmanship he has, which inevitably matters more for the world and business of sports.
@@lukadordevic1718 "ultimate sportsman" that means he is a better tennis player overall, however, he does not have this will, this hunger for victory and mental toughness that the other two have :)
Horrible 3rd set tie break. Useless net approach at 2-2, then after getting that mini break back, again careless hitting. Federer defeated himself his whole career, no one else is to blame
