It would have been nice if Bill let him finish his sentences. I actually wanted to know what he was going to say on a lot of these issues, but instead he keeps cutting him off to ask him another question that he won't let him answer.

"Social Media" ironically enough gives us far more power to divide ourselves. We voluntarily divide ourselves within cyberspace based on what views we're comfortable with, who we like, etc. The days where we were all forced to deal with people who disagree with us are quickly fading into memory. You want people to be able to tolerate each other? Then convince them to socialise with the "other group".

I'm a big fan of the show, but Bill Maher needs to let his guest talk. The guy was interrupted over 5 times. It was more Maher just griping than an interview or even a conversation. I actually wanted to hear what this guy has to say, and Maher just kept budging in any time he was trying to make a point.

I left FB years ago. I felt more isolated than connected to people. Also, I absolutely didn't care if my friend was waiting in line at the movies. In the 90s, I grew up without cell phones or social media. Leaving FB wasn't a big deal to me. I have a cell phone that's old and basic; I can't even go online with it LOL For me, it's weird to see a group of people hanging out, and they're all on their cell phones. They don't say one word to each other.

@MelioraCogito
@MelioraCogito 6 лет назад
Sadly Bill isn't an interviewer - someone who can draw out of those he's "interviewing" important ides without getting caught up in minutia. He's a performer, and one thing performers hate is being out performed by their invited guests. This is why he is constantly interfering with the ideas his guests are trying to convey, they're taking up his time to gab. It's a sad realization I've come to understand about his performances. He means well in trying to get people thinking, but he can't just wrap his brain around the idea that listening to what others have to say is as important - if not more so - as having something to say yourself. He needs to spend more time listening instead of talking.

Jay, try not to sound like such a simpleton. The point they were trying to make was that social media is just another way to spew their propaganda. (meaning self interests). The Russians have been doing this shit for years all over the world and now we need to protect and educate ourselves to what's real and what's questionable or fake. People who really care, do the fact checking thing when they hear some weird shit about something or someone even if they would like the shit to be true, just to make sure when they repeat it, they wont sound like a moron.

@MinamuTV
@MinamuTV 6 лет назад
Fake news wouldn't be such a big issue if people actually bothered to do some fact-checking for just 10-15 minutes a day. Unfortunately, whenever various aspects of life become much easier and more comfortable (due to technology), people adapt to being able to live more passive lives, and as a result, activities that are not passive will become greater annoyances than they were back in earlier times when people regularly had to do those things and were thus more adapted to those active things. The more comfortable our lives are, the more a slight challenge will begin to feel like a major challenge for our bodies and minds: If you are a couch potato who has become used to watching Netflix all day, and there is a remote on a table that lies beyond your reach, it's going to be a bit harder for you to work up the strength to get the remote than it would be if you had to get up all the time for other reasons. I think that the relationship between Internet surfing and fact-checking is like this, and that's one of the things that we're going to have to keep in mind as life becomes easier with more and more "advancement".
