Up until today, Brian and Roger protect Freddie's legacy! Time proved that they really loved Freddie and treated him as family.

@junaid1

I hate to be the cynic but I disagree. The person who really loved Freddie was John Deacon and when Freddie died he quit the band and stopped making music. Roger and Brian have always loved themselves and fame. They have squeezed about as much out of Queen as humanly possible. Tours with other singers, interviews and now a movie that isn't even factually accurate. They have to say nice things about Freddie or they couldn't promote themselves. Let's be honest.
@sofia_trvs
@sofia_trvs 5 лет назад
@@junaid1 All the four were really good friends. I don't believe that after so much time playing with Freddie, Roger and Brian only think in fame. Actually, I believe that if Freddie hadn't died, the band would have quit at this point. Maybe his death is the reason to make Bri and Rog keep Queen alive, because it's really rare a band continue together after like 50 years.
@yevgeniyaleshchenko849
@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 5 лет назад
@@junaid1 Freddie told himself that show must go on and they can do whatever they want. They don't tour constantly just occasionally. After his death they didn't tour for a while. All vocalists are GUEST vocalists, not members of the band. They celebrate and honour Freddie's life and their common legacy, giving many people joy and happiness, bringing it to younger generations. All is done with respect to Freddie and with many videos of him. So what is bad with this - that they make money? But they actually give huge part of it to charity or to making documentaries about band and Freddie; and why they should perform for free, they all have families and obligations. Good music should be peformed and celebrated while people still want it. About movie... Well, it's not documentary, the main goal was to remind about Queen and Freddie, it's still a fictional Hollywood movie that appeals more to emotions and general impression than facts. They had to condense or change things for one or another reason. So please.... have some respect, don't be judgemental prick.
@NicoletteFourie
@NicoletteFourie 5 лет назад
@@junaid1 I also wondered about this. Because the band never hung out in their personal time, I sometimes wonder if they were really that close (Of course I hope they were). But the realist in me knows that Freddie is dead, and its easy for them now to only say and remember the good things so they remain popular with fans.

I grew up in the 80's and there was a HUGE stigma about AIDS --- people who had it were treated like radioactive zombies and people were afraid to even shake their hand --- so you can see why Freddie wanted to keep it a secret until the very end --- he didnt want the hysteria to come down on him

Yes they lied, but it was a lie for salvation. At that time there was too much attention around Freddy's disease and if Roger and Brian would tell the truth, the press would further discredit Freddie. And also they lied at the request of Freddy I think. And telling the truth to reporters would mean betraying a friend .

Oh, Honey! I see exactly what you mean about watching Brian in the portion regarding touring--Just rips your guts out. Most sad I think I have ever seen Brian--even that week after Freddie died when he and Roger did the morning show with that magician on the set as well, I did not see him as close to tears and as visibly hurting. Maybe then he and Roger seemed more together to me because they were there because they were mad about some of the things being said about Freddie--anger can sometimes galvanize a person, you know? Here I just see sadness and longing. Those words, "fondest dream" and "I would give a lot" really got me. Wondering if you or anyone else wanted to slap the interviewer when he said, "Tell Freddie to get his mind together." Doubt many folks in the history of the world have had a more resolute determination mind wise than Freddie Mercury. Thought he was going to say something like, "Tell Freddie we hope to see him back out on tour soon." or some other encouraging statement.

If they wanted to protect him so much, why do they refer to Mercury as being the one who's unwilling to tour? Why didn't they just say that no one of them wanted to tour? That would really have taken the pressure away from Mercury. As they were lying, they could even have said that Mercury was the only one willing to tour. That would take away the gossip about him being very ill. I've never understood why they try to protect Mercury by pointing the finger at him.

Freddie had already said after the Magic tour in 1986 that he didn't want to tour again. Which was a year before his HIV/AIDS diagnosis in 1987. If it helped them protect Freddie's privacy I don't for one moment blame Brian and Roger for using the same reason. Besides which, don't you think they would have discussed and agreed the "cover story" to be used to the press so there were no discrepancies to give people clues to the actual situation?
@michaelmarshall6180
@michaelmarshall6180 5 лет назад
@@Ratelzwatel Everyone knew that Brian loved playing on stage with anyone so nobody would have believed that he didn't want to tour, Same could be said for Roger. If they had said it was only John that didn't want to tour then people would have just said about getting a stand in bass player for the gigs. Freddie had said in a major interview in 1989 that it was himself that didn't want to tour so that seem to be the agreed stance. Also if they had all said that none of them wanted to tour then people would have known they were lying.
@AndrewEwing1995

they knew at this point in time. Touring was over for them. They knew freddie was ill at the time and was going to die and others at that time didn't know what the hell was going on with them whether or not they are gonna tour for those albums. they had to keep lying just to protect freddie and his dignity.
@jackdaw99
@jackdaw99 5 лет назад
They had known for years. What makes this *truly* painful is that they knew that he had started to give up. They shot the video for These were the days of our lives in May 1991 and recorded Mother love that same spring. So they knew Freddie wouldn’t even be able to finish that song.
@peterbuchardt

Brian saying "we like each other a lot and we're quiet supportive to each other these days" is his refined and skilled way NOT to say, that the band lives with the very present fact that Freddies days are numbered. Now we know, that the state that Freddie was in, when they recorded Made in Heaven, was very critical. You can only respect what Brian is going through in this short interview.

My hunch is that this was filmed in April or May. Innuendo was released in February. Both guys handled it well. Brian's sad smile was heartbreaking. His eyes kept darting from the interviewer and I have not noticed taht as much in other interviews. Brian's comment about touring was heartbreaking. AIDS is a horrific beast and attitudes at that time were not kind. In some cases, people were downright vicious and cruel. The guys respected Freddie's wishes and it is a position I respect but don't envy. I can only imagine the pressure they felt.

0:30 - 0:50 Look at Roger when the interviewer talked about Queen lasting another 20 years. Roger looks down and fidgets with his hands as he says: "Oh, absolutely not. No. Nobody can even dream that a...a...a rock group would last 20 years. Especially with---er, the main, extraordinary thing about that, I think, is the fact that it's the same for *members."* He's saying that it's unlikely for rock bands in general to last that long, but he mentions members. He's saying that the members can't last that long. Because Freddie's dying. When he says "especially with---" and then cuts himself off, I think he almost mention Freddie's illness. My heart goes out to them.

Keep Yourself Alive Another person on RU-vid said it was taped around April/May before the release of Innuendo. Unspeakably difficult task for Roger and especially Brian, this interview. At one point near the end he basically drifts off into his own world kind of rambling his words. How a terminally ill man in constant pain all the time even managed to do it was a miracle in itself. The I'm Going Slightly Mad video and Days Of Our Lives shoot was an ordeal for him, in particular I'm Going Slightly Mad as it was his last performance video. Brian had a hard time making eye contact with the interviewer when he was telling "the story". It's wonderful how they rallied around Fred, both with the work continuing as he was able, and also lying to insulate him from the vultures. I think Freddie had every right to want it kept secret, and that was as much, if not more, to protect his parents and others close to him as it was to protect himself.

They used to say to him: "You're My Best Friend" but now say "Who Needs You" ya "Great King Rat?"... "You Don't Fool Me" you "Stone Cold Crazy" "White Man" ... This interview was probably made back in May 1991, because Brian talks about the two last songs that Freddie recorded that would end on Made In Heaven album.

They protected Freddie until the very end....must have been so difficult for them to watch him decline, and knowing what was coming...and Freddie kept recording so much of that time.

They paid so much respect to Freddie and the Queen legacy after he passed on. After doing their own projects, it was 2004, 13 years later when they reformed with Paul Rodgers to play live. They have had a second career span since and well deserved. Would like to see a few new tunes tho'.

They were still very young when Freddie Mercury died.They could have had toured all over Asia and could have had greater fortune.too bad it happened to the greatest rockband frontman..so sad..

If you ever feel unluky think of those 5 bass players who were rejected from then-queen, gosh!! Must’ve hurt like hell later 😱

Roger seems so underwhelmed in his reactions in interview-- probably feeling his friends presence missing-- and feeling like without him there things just were not the same. Knowing that Freddy was dying, makes this interview especially emotional. Seeing Brian trying to keep things under hat and sounding normal when obviously things were not at the time ( Freddy being so very unwell) must have been so incredibly hard. Hard watching them go through this interview, knowing the truth.

Sad to hear Brian talk about Freddie and tours in the past sense, something the interviewer nor the general public probably picked out. Hindsight is 20/20 and here Brian is hinting that this will not be happening again.

This is the first time that I've seen this...4:29 Brian simply can't look at the interviewer as he talks about why Queen won't be touring, and clearly gets choked up talking about something that he knows will never happen again. It must have been so awful for him to know what he did. Very few people would make themselves into public liars like this, it's true friendship.

They knew they would never tour again as the original 4 band members, because they knew Freddie was just getting weaker and weaker at this point. You can tell the strain is getting to Brian as he just looks so sad at the end of the interview. Heart breaking.

Brian isn't really lying to cover up for Freddie, he basically said that Freddie had to keep himself in shape to go tour and keep up those shows every few nights. I mean look at queen in the late 70's to early 80's, its pretty obvious Freddie was takin' care of himself, the energy he used to put into the gigs was unreal. He wasn't able to keep that up after the 86 tour, even even looked a bit tired and he didn't quiet seem himself at a lot of those gigs, I mean he looked a bit tired at their last ever gig in Knebworth, whether that was because of it being the end of the tour or otherwise I'll never know. Brian basically said Freddie wasn't able to keep the disciple needed to go on tour. He just didn't say why.

Good Rockin' Tonite was based out of Vancouver. With a budget of about $45,000 (according to iMDb), I doubt that Stu Jeffries would have been able to make a trip to London.
