The psychadelia and Mason's drums are amazing, I agree that version is better. And you can argue that this version was a very safe approach compared to the genius experimentation of the psychadelic music they were making in the late 60's with Piper and Saucer, but come on, you can't deny that this version still sounds amazing. I've listened to this version plenty of times, and I recommend it to people by saying "I wouldn't call it the best version of the song, but it is different enough that its worth checking out". Saucerful of Secrets: Celestial Voices feels like a much safer approach in Nick Mason's show, where the guitarist pulls out a sick guitar solo with a lot of bends sounding almost but not exactly like Gilmour's solos in Comfortably Numb, Time, most of The Division Bell. But I enjoy that version too even if it's not exactly Pompeii.

I respectfully disagree. I still like hearing this version, as it has more of an arabic sound, but I really like Wright's keyboard on the original track, it sounds like something that would be in Jak 2, I'm probably biased towards that recognition since that is a video game I loved playing throughout my childhood, but that's why I respectfully disagree, I can still see how people would like this version better.
