One Wish is that RW would just sing and stop sharing his political beliefs. Can I use that same wish for all these performers to stop the input. Just sing or act already
Other musicians played a key role as well, sure it was a Watered-down Pink Floyd band project but man that album is it up there with that bands' greats if you put it against that catalogue! Amused to Death is just spectacular.
Because his lyrics really resonates with the people who understand the Album and the point the world was at, at this time in history when he wrote the album. ✌️
1 of my dad’s favorite songs ever ❤ he played growing up at full blast, subwoofer in the couch, surround sound in the ceiling & now that he’s gone since 10/27 2009 (This month) 🥹 from a massive heart attack at age 50 few years before my 19th bday.. I can’t help but listen to it for him, all the time 🎉 he went through a lot of pain in his life & thing song hits my heart sooo hard❤ I love you, Dad 🛐 R.I.P. Thank you for showing me all of the best music growing up, every genre, you were the best man I’ve ever met. I wish you could see your grandson grow up! He’s 5 now & I know you’re always with us 💜 Love you! until we meet again ⚰️🫶🏻
On what do you base.. "I know hes always with us"? Its not true.. At all Theres hell for the majority after death... Only when being born of GODS SPIRIT and knowing JESUS personally is one with HIM...in this life.. and then after this life... And it doesnt sound like your dad was all about JESUS... And even if he was... he still wouldnt be aware of the details of your life on earth
What a track! Peter Boyle is just icing on the video cake. Beck is the icing on the music. "when the global economic collapse happens it will be across the board...." Roger the prophet? Rock on kids!
@@stanleysmith6575 Really appreciate your comment. I think Water's words are prophetic. So, let us support him in his efforts to free Juliun Assange!! God bless you too.
Roger is my favourite personal in the Music industry. He is still never changed. Standing up for our freedoms. He is railing against people that most of the music industry are working for.
Have you seen his dog such a sweet companion beautiful I bet she sings good too the secret dog is man's best friend just look at all of Rogers friends on stage! He's special and o like him live or on DVD or CD I recommend in the flesh 2000. Pink Floyd forever i like the final cut a history lesson in itself.a masterpiece !horen sie gut!
Grande Roger.♥️♥️♥️
I saw Pink Floyd Live with Roger and I saw Pink Floyd Live without Roger... Cant have Pink Floyd with out Roger . Just Is NOT the same . By Far Pink Floyd my all time Favorite Band .
Waters and Gilmour worked well together as they both did what the other couldn't do. Waters is no musician but he is an amazing lyric writter and Inventer of musical concepts e.g who'd think of building a wall between the band and the audience where as Gilmour by his own admission struggles with lyric writting but is an amazing musician and to my ears has a slightly better singing voice but not by much.
I think once you become a real fan of Pink Floyd it becomes apparent that the real Floyd existed between 1969 and 1973. By Wish You Were Here they were already fragmented and Animals was brilliant but not representative of a true band. The Wall and Final Cut were Waters solo stuff in all but name as was AMLOR to Gilmour. Imagine they had stopped at Animals???? They’d be even more legendary than they are now.
@@Fcutdlady I'm totally with you on almost everything, except "Waters is no musician". He wrote a huge amount of the Floyd canon on his own, and played bass (though Gilmour played on a lot of the Wall, and a couple of other songs), and synthesiser on almost every track during the 70s, as well as electric and acoustic on a few more. He's certainly not a soloist, but his additions make a huge difference - a massive part of the raw sound of Animals comes from his electric rhythm guitar on Sheep and Pigs for example (particularly noticeable as it's not there on Dogs). He ay not be the virtuosic musician that Rick or Davis were in the band at the time, but few are, and his contributions are vastly undervalued in their shadow.
Too bad he supposedly had an ear issue at the time and would not commit to tour. I was so into this album and he did not play songs until almost 10 years later. Never could touch this live without a Beck or Gilmour.
Back in the days when listening to a song also meant understanding the lyrics and what the writer was trying to say. I miss those days. I have the CD, still remember about QSound, and I quote “To hear the QSoundTM effect you must be positioned centrally between the two speakers. If the dog barking at the beginning of the record doesn’t sound like he’s in the yard next door then your speakers are out of phase.” By Gods grace, hopefully, I leave back the CD collection for my son to understand how meaningful music was in the last century.
I'm a very recent Roger Waters convert, and good to see that he is not only great now, but always was! Wonderful song and video, playing it every night!
@@davidcox8423 I would wish for happiness in the Lebanon, wish someone helped rog write this song and I wish that when he was young his old man had not been gone
I have a strong suspicion that this song is a bit of an allegory of how he lost his second wife, engaging in wish fulfillment (a metaphor for one's mission in life) and suffering the consequences. This song doesn't really fit in with the overall concept of Amused to Death, but it's so good that it doesn't matter. Roger Waters is a true artist.
god, doesnt rogers music, just make you feel like you are in a different word???? i cant say enough how roger since 1977 made me feel, made me think. there is MAGIC IN HIS WORDS AND MUSIC!!!
Roger has always included the "sounds of life" in his music-eg. cars going by, birds singing, thunder, spoken words, feet walking on pavement etc which gives the music..... a..... third dimension if u like. It adds texture and immerses one deeper into the song-it also inspires mental imagery that mixes with the emotion he evokes so well. My fave artist of all time.
Roger, I will without doubt go to my grave a poor man, with no friends, family, etc. However, you and Dave have made my existence worth the pain. Goodbye old friends.
Damn John never know some felt the same exact way I as did. R.I.P Brother! And yes big thanks to Roger David Nick Rick and of course Syd. They’ve all made it definitely worth the pain. Goodbye Cruel World 🌎 and every one from my past.
"Not Now John"..........We've gotta get on with these! If you're talking about saying goodbye by your own choice, as in ending your life because Life has begun to really suck big time.....please don't do it!!! I am here, and a fellow Floyd Fan, including all solo work by both Roger and David!!! I am always here to chat with about what's troubling you, or we can talk Pink Floyd from beginning to end. Or anything else you might want to talk about, but please don't throw your life away over things going bad, or lack of "True Friends".......We are here for you, I see others besides myself!!! You only live one life, that's it. Please make the most of it, and reach out to myself or others, We all will be glad to help you, and save a Life!!!! Best to you, Ray!!!
@@AndorSolymos Hahahaha! We all agree that is a matter of taste, but let me tell you, you are sincerely deaf if you think Rog is far from being the best. He really left us a legacy of what perfection can hear like. For too many people he (And Pink Floyd´s members of course) is a lighthouse in the middle of darkness. Just take a minute to read the first comment of this video (Is a sad proof of what he means to people who really do love and feel music through the skin and bones). By the way, today is Rog´s birthday, so raise that cup and make a toast to him. Cheers mate
Damian Palmisano yes, indeed! Roger Waters is far from being the best. Then I can be deaf. David Gilmour is the best, but he is not an egoist and a jerk (as Waters is). Gilmour is a humble good man and a brilliant musician. Waters’ musical skills are no match to Gilmour’s skills. Waters is a talented lyricist, but that’s all. Waters is overestimated.
Ah yes, blatant disregard for the fact Roger Waters was not the only member of the band. Remember, Waters tried to disband Pink Floyd because he thought he owned it, and literally got himself kicked out. I like Waters, but he wasn't the only genius in Pink Floyd. Gilmour, Wright, and Mason were top-tier musicians too, and also made for an incredible Pink Floyd sound. Roger Waters ended up taking demos from Pink Floyd as a whole from The Wall to make The Pros and Cons of Hitch-hiking, so even that isn't all his own. Neither side has the same Pink Floyd sound now as anything on The Final Cut or before. Both re-invented themselves because the Pink Floyd sound is distinctly Pink Floyd, and does not belong to any one man. It cannot be replicated by any one man.
@@baractusobamiuscaesar5540 Firstly, top tier musucian doesn't necessesarily equal genius. Secondly, in the previous comments only Gilmour is mentioned as musical genius, no claims about Waters being a musical genius, merely that he "owns the true Pink Floyd sound it’s in his blood". So regarding the 'musical genius' claim you are arguing a strawman fallacy. But I do agree that no single Pink Floyd member owns the true Pink Floyd sound as by definition 'the true Pink Floyd sound' is the whole of Pink Floyd being greater than the sum of it's members. Perhaps the OP means that he likes Waters work more than the collective work of Pink Floyd, though if so, he should have formulated so more carefully.
Don Brogan It's funny how people hold his ego against him. To be in the entertainment business you have to have an ego. Let's not forget Gilmour has one too and that's why they could not get along.
I don't hold it against him. I love Waters work. He was a bit of a bully though. Rick Wright was weak and Roger pounced on it. I love Floyd, but it certainly wasn't Waters backing band.
Say what you will, Roger's a splendid man, even now in his late 70s. I also like that even though he doesn't have a wide vocal range he knows how to use his voice to a great effect.
@@baractusobamiuscaesar5540 It's like Bob Dylan. Not in terms of being a technically proficient singer, no. But no-one else's voice would suit his songs better. He's very idiosyncratic, and he does have a massive vocal range.

Roger always gets me running through my emotions the sign of a talented writer you can throw a stone and hurt someone but speak a few words and take them so far respect man
Totaly agree. This album is so relevant today. Ive always said every schoolkid should be made to listen and understand the lyrics of this album. Might knock some sense into them....dream on eh?😏👍
A lot of people don't know this, and some do, but this album is loaded with subtext and background imagery that sets up the tones. In this song, on the album (not this edited version) there is a background confession of a woman (possibly from South Africa) who confesses to killing her children in a failed attempt of a family suicide which included herself. Due to extreme economic hardship.
@@jogabrielcosta4788 Roger Waters taped a lot of videos from many tv channels. He said he watched a lot of TV. For his album. Not just English TV. There is an Egyptian soap opera in Late Home Tonight to give it that imagery of being an apartment in Tripoli. And its very subtle and sublime. And awesome.
"You see someone through the window who you've just learned to miss" Has to be one of my favorite RW lines. Too many too list. i want her to come HOME!
This song just came into my head after watching the BBC News just & the lyrics from this came into my head "and I wish they where all happy, in the Lebanon" 🇱🇧 What a fantastic song & album 🎵 🎶🥁 🎸 🎤

The intro for this song on the album version has some poignant words spoken softly by a woman-adding that extra emotional dimension that Roger is sooooo good at. Really love the coda too
Love this song....have always loved this song and album...Jeff Beck, etc. But I don't see anybody throwing out love to Peter Boyle...the genie that loved Raymond.........Prior to that show.

Always loved this video. Very nicely put along the music. The album deserves so much more attention. A world tour perhaps with Jeff Beck? Roger is a slow kisser :)
