Rogers Drums Dyna-Sonic Snare Drum Review 

i take the sweater as a mr. rogers reference with the rogers snare. Sounds great... neighbor.

I am 57 years and kept my Roger's double bass 5 tomtom drum set from when I was a teenager, I also have the original dyna sonic snare drum and a 8" maple Roger's snare .

I have a mid-60's Rogers double-bass kit with a 5 x 14" COB Dynasonic snare. Had a wood-shell Dyna that I sold years ago (much to my regret). Now I have a chance to get another wood shell Dyna and these re-issue Dynas look and sound fantastic. Welcome back USA made Rogers!

Important to note that the new Bread & Butter (B&B) lugs have the original look, but are not drawn brass as were the originals. This is a good thing, as the original B&Bs were highly prone to cracking and these new lugs do not have that problem. Also, the new Rogers Drums are made in the USA!

As someone who doesn't really dig wooden drums (I always find myself playing my supraphonic), this is the only wood shell I find myself playing heaps.. super happy I bought one

Being a Buddy Rich fan, I bought a Rogers "Celebrity" white marine pearl kit with a 24" bass drum in 1970 and played it until 2016. It was an awesome kit and had a chrome Dynasonic 5X14 snare drum. Best snare I ever owned. Now I play a small DW kit and I can't believe that this tiny kit is louder than my Rogers kit ever was! And the DW snare is about as nice as the Dynasonic. BUT, I am SO GLAD that Rogers is finally back making quality drums, instead of just using the Rogers name on cheap junk, as was a few years back.

I have been waiting for this drum to come back! I love the old stuff, and when I saw that Rogers was making new snares I was really hoping that they would be as good as the originals. They definitely are. Thank you for showing them off, now I know I need one. :)

Awesome snare drum one of the most iconic

I played one of these at a local drum shop, and plan to buy it next week. This thing sounds and plays INCREDIBLE. I owned a metal dyno ( and full kit ) for years. The snare was missing the frame, like most do. BUT, this wood model is in it's own league.

Dude you sound better on a snare, hi hat and kick than most drummers do with a full kit. Killin’ it ! Great demo. I have an original COB DynaSonic - they’re awesome drums.

It's So Nice that Rogers kept the original concept of the reinforcing rings & Internal muffler for their Dyna-Sonic snare which most of the drums makers today have done away with due to cost. In the past the big 5 American Companies like Rogers, Gretsch & Ludwig, Slingerland & Premier, (I'm not sure about Camco & Sonar) At an extra cost would add 4 Spurs/Legs your Bass Drum instead of 2, And would install Internal mufflers on the top and bottom heads of the Toms and Bass Drums. It's nice to see quality workmanship and original quality ideas comeback into style again !

I had one from 1967. It had the beavertail lugs. It was also black diamond pearl. It was 5" instead of 61/2". The thing I really loved was the grey speckeled (SP) interior. That mahogany stain looks good as well. Rogers drums were just amazing in terms of detail. Really classy. I've been playing Gretsch drums for years now, however I will buy one of these drums. The presenter knows why. The snare bed is the key to this drum and it's pretty confounding that nobody else used this idea except Rogers. These drums really sound terrific. I hope they eventually make full drum sets. If they do, they will be really pricey....they were the most expensive drums back then.

I have a late 60's Rogers Dynasonic Marching Snare Drum 14 X 10 Sweet sound with Black Swamp snares on bottom.

I think if they want this to be a successful venture they need to do more than just what Rogers was doing in the 60s. I would love a full kit but they dont make them and what if i wanted natural gloss or piano black? I have been talking on the Rogers FB pages and it's like they don't realize there are people under 60 years old.

Remember on occasions, Buddy Rich replaced his Rogers snare, with a Fibes . He did the same with some of his Slingerlands, except for the Radio King 1983-87. From memory, I don’t recall him replacing any Ludwig snares, with a Fibes.. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Manufactured in Taiwan, assembled by Bill and his team in the US. Think I'll stick with the vintage MIA versions.

All new snares should be made with internal muffling, like in the old models.

Just purchased... Strainer seems super loose. It is able to be pushed towards the shell and it gives an odd snare buzz as if snares are loose but they’re not... contacted Rogers and a few Rogers forums I’m in, but it’s nothing like my COB dynasonic with powertone swivomatic strainer. Not sure if i need to buy a new throw off for a brand new drum!

nice sounding snare. i can't believe i've never heard of roger's drums. when i heard the dyna sonic, its definitely that 50-60's sound you expect from the big bands, or buddy rich. high quality snare for sure. but should be for the price...900$?~

Mr. D'Virgilio, I love your demos and your drumming. I just wanted to let you know that the device is called a damper, and it damps the drumhead. I used to make this same mistake. I had to retrain myself to stop using the wrong word. Remember to dampen is to wet, and to damp is to reduce vibration.

I wonder how tight the bottom head is, compared to the batter head..

Not sure about the Rogers "come back". Definitely a great sounding snare though.. Very vintage and modern all at once.

Hope they have the option to get the beaver-tail lugs with this eventually.

How do they stack up to Ludwig Black Beauties or Supras. Even the Ludwig 100th Anniversary Buddy Rich Ludwig snare. Interested in peoples views.

The hardware is made in Taiwan, but assembled in USA. If that sort of thing matters to you. You know, for $800 you'd think it was all domestic.

Unfortunately, the new models cost way more than their vintage counterparts.

I'm a Rogers fan, but I can't see this resurgence of the brand working out. The only ones who really know Rogers are about to literally die out. And I don't think new drummers care about Dynasonics or any of this. Rogers could have worked 20 years ago when people were still collecting, or maybe when the whole C&C/vintage aesthetic came about, but I think it's too late. All the fuddy duddies will get the Dynasonics they couldn't afford when they were young, then that will be it.
