Totally iconic stage for Roglič. Only one man was smiling at the finish - Kuss as he passed Roglič coming back down breaks into a big smile and proved the ultimate partner for his leader & friend by taking 2nd and denying the bonus seconds to Roglič’s rivals. Magnificent teamwork by Jumbo-Visma! Bernal’s brave effort and eloquent speech after the finish have raised him hugely in my estimation! Stirring stage! A new classic.

The best highlights around. Thanks. Primoz's most iconic victory? As a Slovenian, I actually think his most iconic victory is the Olympic time trial. Why? The commentator on the national TV Tomaz Kovsca summed it up with one of the best lines in commentary ever. "You can stop now Primoz. All the bad is over." Remember how Primoz actually continued after the finish line and they had to stop him? The comment wasn't just about the 50-mile race but about all the disappointment, pain, anguish, bad luck, and doubt he had after Tour de France. A month after the Olympics and my eyes still get wet about this one.

I asked for Roglic v Bernal - and I can’t believe we got it! Great stuff from both of them - entertaining, racing, leaving it all out there - and sportsmanship. I take my hat off to Bernal for such a decision, and of course also to Roglic for the performance. He got a Royal Flush and just laid it out there and said - read ‘em and weep gentlemen.

To me most iconic is still his victory at Liege To come back from such heartbreak and dissatisfaction at the tour (plus all the shit Belgian fans gave him fir not pulling for WVA at worlds), and win a monument, even with sprint controversy, just shows so much heart and mental fortitude. Roglic truly is a different breed.
@texwallis
@texwallis 2 года назад
Liege was great but I just can't get past the fact that he doesn't win without LouLou's colossal blunder (which I don't view as a controversy). But I really like Roglic and just wish he'd come to the sport younger.
@alexwyffels9788
@alexwyffels9788 2 года назад
I as a Belgian am sick of people saying Roglic shouldve pulled for WVA. Its a nations competition, Roglic didnt have to do anything just focus on himself. I do still think the other guys couldve paced more to bring back Alaphilippe but both Alaphilippe and WVA wouldve probably beat all the other riders in that chasing group so chasing after Alaphillipe wouldve been a dumb movebc it would cost them strength they could use for a sprint for bronze. It was a frustrating world championship as a Belgian since a WVA win was definitely possible but you cant expect other nations to help you get the gold.

As he got zero second on his closest competitors, it will matter how he responds. If he cracks in the next two days and slips in the standings then this effort will be a colossal mistake. If he retains his non-podium spot it will be a push. If he can replicate this effort and climb up to third (like he was in the virtual standings if he kept Roglic's wheel) then yes, this was a good move. But I'd give him 1:3 odds this will not be a good stage for him moving forward. I agree we can salute his performance but what he does with it over the next couple days will make this stage a win or a loss for him.

The best part about this whole break-away was watching two top class riders working together and pulling though like riding partners. Of course one of them was going to win, and it was tough to see Bernal fall off Roglic's pace. In the end it doesn't' matter who won, it was a moment road cycling could be proud of (just took an ex-MTB-er and an ex-ski jumper to make it happen!).

@djvincekline7338
@djvincekline7338 2 года назад
@@neilberry1552 Really, Armstrong destroyed the sport?! First of all, all of Armstrongs competitors took everything they took. Armstrong won the Tour because he was riding up mountains in the Alps and the Pyrenees in December, January & February. While Ullrich was at home in Rostock watching the telly and drinking beer. Because of the early 2000's there was finally a real fight from the UCI towards doping. So, in a way, it was actually Armstrong who helped making professional cycling a lot cleaner. He still became 3rd in the Tour without any PED's and on a very respectable age. Don't forget that all the other big riders before them all took doping as well (Merckx, LeMond, Indurain, Riis to name a few). To later find out that the UCI is not consequent. Contador got stripped and banned. Valverde got banned for admitting that he wanted to take doping during his Illes Balears time. But what did Wiggins and Dopey get?! Oh wait, nothing at all! I guess that you are Irish, well your fellow Anglosaxons from the east of your beautiful country couldn't care less. I bet that the whole UK team with all the money is also doing some very 'sophisticated' program. Look at how Dopey is riding now, since his move to Israel. He is nothing anymore. Even the helpers like Wout Poels are not as good as they were in their Sky/Ineos times. Probably not just because they got older. But hey, keep dreaming in a clean sport (not gonna happen as long as money rules :-( maybe someday it will really be clean and everybody who is stupid enough to take some dope will get stripped with at least 2 years back and a ban for 5 years. Then you can come back in the semi-pro peloton like Davide Rebellin (one person I do have respect for as he clearly loves the sport, he was just unlucky that he drove around in a world where you simply had to take dope)

Mad respect for Bernal, feeling sorry for him getting caught. Was a super "panache" move from him (and Roglic too).

I am loving this new era of cycling where you see GC riders attacking from distances which were nearly impossible to imagine 10 years ago. And thanks to Bernal and Roglic for making up for what it was a pretty uneventful Vuelta so far. Again disappointed with the performance of the Movistar riders, who again seem to be fine with ending up in second place.

Hats off to Bernal. Hope he returns to his best next year, funny saying that even though he won the Giro and got a podium at Strade Bianche this year.
