HEY if you enjoyed this, please check out my video about music in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lnTac7KeV4A.html
It’s lines like this and the emotional way it’s delivered through acting, visuals and music which make this film so strong. You could see it literally being about the fact that his power allows him to retract his claws and heal each time yet it doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt, but it also highlights another deeper meaning - the theme in that just because you can learn to show your true self to the world and take the pain it requires to do so, it doesn’t change the fact that you still feel pain each time. Your strength doesn’t change the fact that you still are very vulnerable at your core. Great scene!
@@TruthAplomado I think he's simply saying he feels the physical pain everyone using them as an example to project what he's been through & why he's so... hard.
"Every time" is such a powerful line. To me it's like he was saying that his power was a strength but a curse and something he could never get used to.
I also view it as a showcase of his humanity. Yeah, Logan’s this ultra-badass but he’s still a man; he feels pain like everyone else. Yet he still fights for others in SPITE of it hurting him. Such a great character; Hugh Jackman is a LEGEND!
"Suddenly my life doesn't look that bad." Lmaooooo A lot of people preferred the sassy, punching Rogue. I liked this Rogue. Her friendship with Wolverine was so well done. You could feel the connection after just one scene.
+Anonymous Yes. I like this Rogue too. She portrays the younger Marie who will turn into the sassy Rogue we know later. Marie captures Logan's heart because of her innocence and sincerity.
I liked Rogue in this film. But not the following films. She needed to have that character arc where she gained powers from another mutant permanently. For instance, she's in the Danger Room sequence at the start of X-3 training with Bobby/Kitty/Storm/Logan. But why? She has no combative uses without Carol Danver's powers. Since FOX doesn't own the rights to Carol Danvers, I think Rogue should've gone a new direction in the films, and permanently gained Logan's boneclaws from the end of X-1, as well as some of Magneto's metal manipulation. But, Bryan Singer doesn't give a shit about any of the characters except Charles/Magneto/Logan.
What you pointed out is called acting. You know, it's that thing you do when you entertain other people for money by pretending to be someone you are not in order to tell a story. You may be surprised to find in the modern world it is quite common!
Elias Rammah Yes, he looks so protective, like a big brother, young sister and she clearly cares an looks up to him. My favorite relationship in the whole saga.
I completely agree. What I'm really hoping for is that their relationship is at least mentioned in Logan. It would be a great parallel with the Logan/X-23 relationship.
I know people hate this Rogue, but I still think Paquin did a good job playing her in this movie. The father daughter relationship between Wolverine and Rogue was one of my favorite things about this movie. Rogue was badly underused in the sequels though. She should have grown to become one of the X-Men leaders like Iceman and Shadowcat.
I don't think the majority people hate Paquin's Rogue, it's just that for some fans either no actor or actress will be good enough for a character or they simply can't tolerate change in film adaptations. I've never read the comics myself but did use to watch the X-Men cartoons and the way they changed Rogue's character never bothered me.
I think the sequels were the problem in regards to Rogue's character. Like, this introduction was fine, but it sucks she didn't grow into the sassy, confident badass we all know and love.
I always saw them as a brother/sister, good friend bond. He quickly became protective of her. I think because they were both outcasts, harming people they love. They had that connection
When he says every time, it really hit me. Over twenty years later, instill get chills every time he uses his claws because that line has stuck with me since I first saw it. We rarely consider the pain it causes Logan to use his claws. This was a great scene.
One line I wish they added in was from a comic where he's asked about his healing ability, and it sums his character up perfectly "That's amazing. Every wound and gash heals. Even your scars" "No. Not all of them" Poor wolverine is referring to his mental ones. Just cause he can heal on the outside, doesn't mean he's not in pain on the inside
I know it's been two years since you commented this, but this is something I've thought about often since I was first introduced to X-Men some 25 years ago. Logan's emotional trauma must be extreme, though also he still feels physical pain. His pain tolerance is high, but he is still experiencing it. Can only imagine what that does on someone's mindset after 100+ years.
@@AurumJo that's why I felt relief for him when he died in Logan, despite Wolverine being my absolute favorite ( at least Hugh's version). Didn't cry, didn't feel bad for him just.... finally he can be at peace. Imagine being practically immortal. Sounds great until you realise you will have to watch everyone and everything you ever loved and cared for witter and die. And not just once, but again and again. Every new friend you make, every person you bond with you will outlive. Add to that all the horrors he must have witnessed, all the pain and suffering he both caused and couldn't prevent. If you go soley of what is shown in the movies Wolverine still suffered unspeakable mental anguish with seemingly no end in sight. Dying for him was not a punishment but a reward, finally he got to escape from all the ghosts haunting him.
@@remruna3538 that's the biggest hang-up. Experiencing life without actually being part of it. It must be like watching your life through an opened window. Yeah sure, you can interact with them, but you'll never actually be part of what's happening. It's sad. I'm happy that he made a connection with Laura(?) in Logan, and protected her until the end.

When this movie came out, I knew it would be a huge hit. And whenever I think about it, I always have this scene in mind. It's quite wholesome, honestly.
I always loved Logan and Rogues Father/Daughter relationship in this movie. Which is why it honestly kinda surprised me to find that so many people ship these versions of Logan and Rogue.
Such a beautiful friendship they have. They really bring each other out of their shells. I always like the dynamic between them. It’s cool to watch Logan develop from basically an animal
Yeah but people are basing it primarily off of his Physical Age versus Hers. If you want to go down that route though, look at Edward / Bella or Angel / Buffy or any other movie about an Immortal who falls in love. There's tons of them.
Your right about Anna Paquin being 18 during this movie but I think the character of Rogue in this movie was a little younger then 18, considering Rogue was still portrayed as a teen in last stand and that movie took place a few years after the first one I think it's safe to assume she was at least 15 or 16 in this movie.
I appreciated their scenes together in the 1st film but on the whole I feel like they robbed Rogue's character in the X-Men films.. No fault of Anna Paquin's though, I blame the writers. I understand the point of trying to get the audience to sympathize with Rogue and show that initial connection with Logan but after the first X-Men movie, it didn't seem to me like she evolved beyond that scared, lonely girl. Maybe she didn't have to be "sassy" but Rogue is always portrayed as someone who could hold her own in between trying to deal with her gift/curse,, and the movies killed that image. Plus they paired her with Iceman and pretty much ignored the fact that after Jean and Cyclops (and Jean and Logan) that Rogue and Gambit are the runner-up power couple of the X-Men franchise. Rogue is my favorite character and I don't think the movies did her character justice at all.
You know, you got to admit that is one of the best X-Men movies, this is the very first marvel movie I've watched as a kid and I still loved it to this day
Just seemed like there was a hell of a lot more between these two than there ever was between Jean and Logan. Yeah, I know how the last one ended. But on screen all they ever had was this flirty I-think-you're-hot Hollywood shit. Rogue and Logan actually had chemistry.
They do have better chemistry but it's not sexual. Logan lusts after Jean and Jean mentions to Logan that she thinks Rogue has a crush on him but by calling her "kid" Logan makes it clear that any feelings for her aren't romantic. The chemistry between Logan and Rogue is created by care. He kind of watches over her.
@@elamplough1 Nope, he called her "kid" when they met each other, I mean there is the scene, even before Jean told him about it, so calling her "kid" has nothing to do with "making clear he does not have romantic feelings"
I think he meant that every time he pops his claws, he's reminded of the pain of being called a freak and not remembering what happened to him (Weapon X program). Beautiful writing and great subtle acting.
Hell no. I mean think of it like this, His body heals almost instantly, we see on screen when his skeleton is coated in adamantium, and when the claws come out his bones displace, so that means when they retract the bones in his hands would replace themselves, so essentially everytime the claws come out his hands are in a way breaking themselves, That would not feel good and you couldn't get used to the pain. I think it's just a matter of him have a crazy high tolerance for pain.
I read somewhere that Logan is going to develope a relationship in the last wolverine movie. Better not be true after the fans write to Hugh Jackman about he should stay with Rogue
Logan never aged he was born in 1880 and he still looks like he is in 30's and when rogue will be 30 he is still gonna look like he is in his 30's so they can be shipped
Maybe I'm just a sucker for this kind of stuff or have a massive case of nostalgia, but I really wish they would have done more stuff with these two in the latter movies. Maybe include her in the DOFP theatrical cut instead of her own cut of the movie or included her in Logan somehow. Not sure if it was the studio, the story or Anna herself that got in the way of that but it's too bad in my opinion.
It was nice the way they portrayed a kind of big brother little sister relation in X-Men and we see that Logan still cares for Rogue during some scenes in X-Men 2 as well, but the other movies also had to move on a bit. They couldn't keep the main focus on these two as the story lines in the franchise changed.
As a kid i mindlessly thought that she was horrible as Rogue because she wasn’t like in the animated series or comics .. as i grew older i realize that she was like Jubilee and Rogue in one. They really dropped the ball in not continuing this little sister/big brother or sidekick relationship she could have grown and developed into the Rogue we all know and love.
This was nice but they came together easily so it works. But it sounds nice to delay it to show that trust. Kinda like star trek with Uhura’s first name as kind of a joke but also intimacy.
"You were an animal then. You're an animal now. I just gave you claws." I do much prefer the idea the earlier movies were going for was that Logan's power was just his regeneration. No bone claws or anything. It makes a lot more sense that these unnatural pieces of his body hurt when they come out.
Oh, I didn't know what was that until I recently searched it. We don't have this where I'm from and haven't seen it anywhere I've traveled. Seems a practical nutritious food.
Finally, after 20 some years I found this scene. I remember seeing this on TBS or FX way back then and couldn't remember which X-Men movie it was. Crazy how it ended up being the first one🤣. I haven't watched too much X-Men stuff so give me a break. Glad I found this video though
When I was a kid, I wanted to be Wolverine. Then I started thinking about the near constant pain he must be in almost every day just using his claws, and I was like, "Nah, I'm good."
Which is funny, because Logan is on of the best martial artists in the Marvel Universe. Between that skill, his Adamantium skeleton, and healing factor, he is still damn near invincible.
Its so funny.. I never thought of this as any kind of iconic scene.. but it really is now that it's been so many years. This scene is like a Terminator 2 scene (Can you even see?.. "I see.. everything.") Or whatever haha.
When I first saw this I missed the first ~10 minutes. So to me, this scene is the start of one of the most important superhero movie franchises ever made.
When she uses her powers it has a sensation this is why she asks when he uses hurts it hurts Her power almost compels her she doesn’t want to let go do you understand She scared because she knows how it makes her feel and she’s wondering if he feels like she does And that’s when he teaches her it hurts
X-23 came from the show, X-Men: Evolution, which came out about the same time as the movies. She was the brainchild of one of the producers and was introduced in the third season. The comics were based off of her. Much like Harley Quinn from BTAS.
I don’t get the hate that people have for the portrayal of Rogue here. Like is she the badass Southern Belle we all love? No, but i do like how this is a younger, more vulnerable version who hasn’t learned how to control her powers
