We fished with Alan Borges Guide Service [alansguideserv...] and he used large anchovies for a dead spin action pulled behind a 360 flasher. We fished out of a Willie Predator jet boat using the new Buzz Ramsey BRS 360 Trolling Rod Signature Series by Douglas Outdoors [douglasoutdoor...]. You can find small, medium or large anchovy trays at Fred Meyer and Englund Marine.
The 2024 California salmon season is closed, so there has been an effort shift to the Rogue River in Oregon for California fishing guides and salmon anglers. Anglers can harvest two salmon in Oregon. There are fish counters at the boat ramp and they will ask you who was fishing, residents or non resident, how long you were fishing and what was caught - wild salmon or hatchery salmon.
Anglers can acquire a one day angling license for $23 online at odfw.huntfisho... or you can download the MyODFW app on your cell phone to purchase a fishing license. If you're fishing up river, you should log into the ODFW app before you loose service as the app will still work if you get checked by the Oregon fish and wildlife warden.

According to Andy Martin of Wild Rivers Fishing (wildriversfish..., the Rogue Bay improved over the weekend, with fair action, but bigger crowds. “Warm water and lots of moss are slowing action at low tide. High tide has been a better bet. Be extremely careful near the tips of the jetties, as two boats capsized last week, with one fatality. One boat was hit by a wave at the south jetty. The other was a drift boat that crossed the bar and then capsized offshore of the beach.”
We launched at the Gold Beach Public Boat Ramp just past Jerry's Rogue jetboat rides. The Port of Gold Beach off Highway 101 is for tourists, for residents, and for commercial fishermen and recreational anglers. The entrance through the breakwater from the Rogue River is not far from the boat launch. There is a fish cleaning station, garbage, restrooms, youth life vests to borrow and a boat washing station. At the top of the Commercial Dock are restaurants, shops, fish buyers/sellers/processing.
Vessels on trailers can be easily launched using the 3 lane boat launch ramp that is located in the Port of Gold Beach. Launch payments can be put into the lock box located at the top of the launch ramp. Daily launch fees are $3.00 or there is an Annual Launch Permit available at the Port Office.

We stayed at the Gold Beach Inn for $120 a night. Make sure you book a ground floor room as there is no elevator to the upper floors. They have space for trailers and boats in the parking lot. The ice machine was not working when we were there.
