To add onto Karen's original explanation: It's actually not that uncommon for wives to call their husbands "oppa" (my mom, for instance, still calls my dad "oppa" and they're both in their 50s). It'd be weird for my mom to call my dad by his given name because he's several years older than her, so there's that whole "seniority" thing with age in Korean culture too. But with couples who are the same age, it'd be more common for the wife and husband to call each other by their given names and not by using a specific honorific or title. "Yeobo" is basically the equivalent of when married Americans call each other "honey" - like when people say "Honey, can you pick that up?" Unmarried couples generally don't call each other "yeobo" - they're more likely to refer to each other using the root word "jagi" (자기). But this usually comes out as "jagiyah" because of the way sentence particles work in Korean. So you wouldn't hear someone calling their boyfriend/girlfriend like "Hey jagi", it'd be more like "Jagiyah, can you do this". So basically it's also like when American couples call each other "honey/babe" or whatever. It's just that "yeobo" is more for married couples, and "jagiyah" is more for unmarried, but married couples (usually younger ones) also use this occasionally. An important note is that these terms aren't "gender-locked" in that the husband/boyfriend can say it to their wife/girlfriend and vice versa. "Nampyeon" (aka "husband"), I don't think I've ever heard or seen it being used as a word when referring directly to your husband. That's more what yeobo/jagiyah/(other pet name lol) is for. "Nampyeon" is more used for when you're talking about your husband indirectly to someone else. So like if you were talking to your friend and said "My nampyeon did this". You wouldn't go to your husband and say "Nampyeon, do this" (well some couples might do for humor but generally not). Basically just for talking about your husband in 3rd person. The female equivalent for nampyeon is "ah-nae" (아내). Follows the same general rules in that you don't refer to your wife straight up as "ah-nae" because that just sounds really strange (Like how strange the sentence "Hello Wife, do this" sounds) This is all mainly anecdotal from my personal experiencesand varies from case to case (so it doesn't apply to all couples). Like I've never heard my mom call my dad "yeobo" and vice versa. Just like how I've never heard the old folks at my church call say "jagiyah" to each other, it's usually "yeobo". Hope this was helpful! Definitely didn't expect to write out a long essay haha my bad.
