SmartTVs have had shitty UIs. Better overall to just get a dedicated Andeoid TV or AppleTV. My pihole #1 web activity is the Roku Tv…. That sits in the guest room unused 99% of the time.

But there is/was an option for a Currier delivery whit a confirmation signed that the person got the letter and read it. *oh thank for the later I will read it later* oh no. the Currier would wait until you read it (this was more for back in the day when not everyone could read it... Note usually there is a clause that on delivery the Currier would read the letter out load for the receiver). There is a special extra for an armed Currier delivery (ether the Currier itself or armed escort). because your not sneaking out of not getting a mail. and you been in an active war zone is a not a valid excuse. Heck If needed they would read it to your grave. (usally only used for Draft letters, Royal topics or Court/legal obligations stuff). Not for sending to your granny that you be visiting in 3 weeks time.

@@Zack_Wester Back when they were first pushing for all bills to be electronic my dad would send checks via certified mail because they would claim they didn't get the checks in an asinine effort to force him into going electronic only. He did eventually give in, but man were they total douches about it to him.

i did basically the same lol. have a tcl roku tv (that i actually really like, good upscaling and response times) and realized that since i got my ps5, theres no reason to use any roku apps since theyre slower and less responsive anyway, so disconnected it from internet. however, this causes the power led ring around the button to continuously flash a pattern when the tv is on, which can be distracting. i used a hidden menu to lower the brightness all the way, but still ended up just taping over it. annoying, but now my tv wont receive these shit updates or sell my info, it just works as a nice tv

​@timestopMachinist I had a TCL Roku TV do that too, so I just kept it on the internet (this was before all of these BS Roku is pulling) and when it died I replaced it with an Android TV, now that they're pulling stuff like this, I'm glad I got rid of it

I used to like Roku right off the bat, especially coming off from the irredeemable piece of garbage that is the Amazon Fire Stick. Then they decided to speedrun enshittification and now I'm badmouthing Roku every chance I get.

Plex got so obsessed wth "going legit" and turning themselves into a crappy streaming service that they forgot what their product actually is. Roku changed their business model from selling quality products people want to spying on its customers

See, I was waiting for the reveal that Plex did something extremely shady that I somehow missed and I was going to have to abandon using their software. Reading the email, that's a list of things that mostly don't matter to my use-case/implementation (though are valid gripes for someone who uses those features frequently).

it makes cheap tvs seem better and therefore more valuable to the broad swathe of consumers, who don't care as much as the relative minority of tech enthusiasts

@@coonyman10 It's the opposite, it makes the old TV seem worse than it is pushing consumers to upgrade sooner. It's literally planned obsolescence via software update. Anyone with a Roku TV should contact the FTC for their sabotaging of motion clarity, a HARDWARE feature of the TV broken with intent by Roku.

@@soulreaperx7x Not alwalys a solution now if your smart TV requires wifi for the initial setup or auto connects to your neighbors unsecure wifi.

I literally turned my broken laptop into a monitor with an aliexpress lcd driver for a similar model number panel.

Nvidia makes a good one. I don't use it as much as I should but i like it.

my issue too, family not that tech savvy, roku is easy to use and works ok. I would love something else but everything is more expensive or complicated and would need me to show them how to use it. Nothing i've seen warrant the cost. Roku is slowly making me regret them more and more. I definitely won't be adding more, or upgrading. I just hope by time they break a better option come out. Maybe next gen shield, fingers crossed.

they broke it. it's a cumbersome process to do anything worthwhile with the dev mode or half the expert features. we are payying more for less.

Jellyfin is plain better for me.

If I can interpolate every 4th frame I send while streaming that movie I just saved ~16% on my streaming bandwidth costs.

Huh? You pay extra for more you Stream hell I use spectrum and I use between 3-5 tb a month they have unlimited bandwidth.

@@Random-video I meant the streaming service saves on server, bandwidth costs not the end user. Even with enterprise data & compute at scale being like a tenth of a penny per GB, when your talking Netflix/Disney/Amazon/Steam scale streaming, even skipping transcoding, storing, transmitting 1 frame of 4K video per second adds up to a few million $'s saved per year.

When you reset your tv/set it up for the first time they ask you to agree to a bunch of terms. If you deny all the terms you dont need to deal with the majority of their smart garbage features. Also makes it so it’s impossible to nag you with ads. So I highly recommend saying no to ALL the terms.

If it's direct stream downloaded, it'll be the same speed. The issue is the web client is garbage. Use a native client instead, on whatever device you are viewing it. Avoid the web client like the plague. It'll cause almost everything to transcode even when it doesn't need to.

thats something ive wondered, when nobody makes quality because cheap is more profitable, will anything have value even for those with the funds to buy it?
