I was not asked...but please allow me to give you MY opinion about it: Probably YES (especially in terms of design and due to certain technical "limitations"). But as usual it's a matter of taste. And of course it depends on the specific model and what's the actual "goal" that you want to achieve with it. The fact alone that nowadays you can come close to a totally "pro" sounding result by using freeware plug-ins only is amazing. Some of them are clones of the original machines from the past. In so far your question as such is kind of "obsolete". Older gear can be very inspiring at times (even the more limited machines). Some older budget synths have an unfriendly user interface which might interrupt your workflow. In some cases software editors or external controllers might help. But keep in mind that MIDI was first brought to the market in 1982. Checking out some videos of older gear here on RU-vid is the way to go (and it seems like that's what you already do). Try to find some cheap synthesizers, sound modules, samplers or workstations (or even one or two nice portable keyboards!) on the second-hand market and use them in combination. Try to find one or two multi-effects processors and add them to the mix (some effects pedals for electric guitars might do the job as well). The rest depends on your talent as a keyboard player or composer. Don't spend too much money. For most scenarios it's unnecessary. Your profile pic shows a Casio CZ synthesizer. Those PD synths (PD = phase distortion) definitely had character and were quite flexible.
