I don't understand all the hating on this keyboard, especially by people that don't even own one. I sent the Casio CT-S1 back because it didn't do much, other than allow me to play the piano and about 5 other tones. Casio wants $120 for an external Bluetooth module. This keyboard comes with Bluetooth built-in and it works perfectly so I'm able to play music through the keyboard speakers and play along with it. The speakers sound great, the build-quality is nice, and the buttons are soft and quiet when pressed. Also, I think the many tones on it sound great. I showed it to 2 experienced keyboard players and they were both impressed with this thing for the price.

@@elijahakindolie This is not a nice keyboard by any definition of word nice, and it is not even Roland made keyboard, but cheap Chinese bulk made keyboard with Roland sticker on it, so embarrassing for a company that produced top of the line arranger keyboards just 20 years ago.

"It's really expressive!" Come on Ed! You are better than that. This thing has neither a Roland sound engine, nor has it a keybed that reacts to velocity in an expressive way. That machine hasn't even many velocity switching patches, if it has any at all. Jeremy See has a very honest review of this machine.

I get it mops the floor with the Casio in Yamaha stuff for the same price but when is Roland going to basically out to E80 the G 70 the EA7and the phantom in one large ultimate arranger super workstation with all the real time control and pads and digital audio inputs and outputs to satisfy what we’ve been waiting for from such a great company it’s like the legacy is not complete yet

The Style format of this device is "STY", also the format of Yamaha Styles is "STY". Is there a converter to convert Yamaha rhythms to E-X--?

Compared to my RA50, this is very impressive. Sadly, when it comes to keyboards, I'm more the Yamaha guy, and the only exception is the RA50. So I have to pass that temptation and stick to my old devices :)

I'm sorry. I do not understand Roland's thinking on this product. Ed Diaz made it sound as good as possible and should be applauded for his demonstration skills. This keyboard would sound good in 1995 in my opinion. But not in 2022.

Not really sure with the arrangers situation on roland now, this is just a medeli oem, probably a modified m361 which is cheaper and more worth it

Oh! It's a Medeli. That's a cheap trick. Roland should put at least a Medeli AKX10 inside. I still use my GW-8L, which is very good after the V2 update. It can create patterns, works like a workstation with 16 tracks, plays SMF files and much more. The keybed is also pretty good. On par with a System-8 keybed or VR-09. The Roland GO:Keys is a much better investment than this third party crap sailing under a false flag.

This is a terrible "creature"... i cant understand that Roland put its good name and reputation at stake in the arranger part of the music keyboards with this atrocity! - i have the EA7, and that is in my opinion the best arranger keyboard they released as their top keys in the past years! - this sound no better than an 8-bit computer board!! - Levi in Sweden (nothing bad to you,Ed - you are an accomplished keyb.player, i know that, and everybody else... ;))

It's made by Medeli so the sounds are a mix of various Yamaha samples from the mid 90s and early 2000s.

I need to know each feature do, I had seen many negative videos. I like it because of the 30 user style I can load of my own. But I love yamaha dsp effects but I don't like it I can only load 10 styles. I have not purchase one yet.

Chinese Plastic Junk!!! Korg is miles ahead right now. This is a shame to all Roland users and fans! Do something please like the real stuff based on new Fantom models Touch screen,New and the old soundcanvas from Roland and a decent modern Sequencer with some new features like sampling mp3 player or Vocoder build in it.

This is just a Medeli keyboard with the Roland name slapped onto it. I agree Roland could have made their own EX-50 with Roland Sound Canvas sounds maybe from the SC-88 Pro ( which are still really good sounds even today ). If Korg can make the EK-50 based on 90s Korg samples I don't see why Roland couldn't do the same.

Do you realise how many people are wayting for a follow up of the G70? Roland after the closure in Italy only creates what some call low end crap arrangers. While just creating a arranger version of the Jupiter 80 would have been gold… or even just add arranger tracks to the rhyttm patterns of the fantom? Many professional arranger players would love to buy the latest greatest Roland arranger.

Roland Europe was everything in Roland's arranger division. Their closure meant the end of Roland from the arranger market. The EA-7 was Roland's last arranger. And no, FANTOM is unsuitable for arranger purposes, the layout is too synth oriented.

@@ablesam i disagree.. the way rhytmm patterns work, could easilly be expanded tot arranger style backings.. (no it would not be a typpically arranger, but would play like one, who cares about 4 intro's and 4 endings)

@@lordbachus Most people care about the first two intros and at least two endings to start. And the rhythm patterns themselves are based just for drums. To have arranger functionality would mean implementing a system that would deviate FANTOM from being a performance synth. Where would the variation buttons be? The syncho-start/stop, the style select buttons, the multipads, all of them would have to be reassigned to the touch-screen, which is the last thing any arranger player would want. Also, for FANTOM to be an arranger, 8 of the zones would have to be assigned to playing a style, which takes away from the performance synth aspect of things. With KARMA and Drum Tracks on Kronos, even in program mode, you don't have to worry about what channel or what track they are on, just focus on playing. That isn't the case with FANTOM.

Seems like it could be flexible & versatile enough for someone who just wants to fool(play) around with stuff for fun but sorry guys but this thing just sounds like band-in-a-box, circusjungle kidstuff not much more. My Casio LX90tv from 15-20 years ago has a better sonic quality than this kit?! (might be cause the of the vid) It's only redeeming factor might be the price & it's better than shellin' out almost 3k for a Jup-X folks

Owning quite a few Roland arrangers Inc the superb G70 and E50 also had some other models over the years this one sadly must be the worst they have came up with. I have a casio wk7600 which basically has this on toast. You need to seriously improve Roland rather than cut corners to make fast cash.

They no longer have an arranger R&D division. After they sold Roland Europe (the people who made the G-800, G1000, G70, E-80 and BK9), they lost their arranger division and therefore won't be able to make new arranger flagships anymore. They can only currently make low-end/beginner keyboards since that's only what their team is capable of. So not expecting a new arranger mid-range or high end from Roland anytime.

The E50 was a scaled down version but compatible with the G70 styles and registrations same as it's bigger model ranges but suffers bugs such as in style edit mode etc. Still happy with them though. Definitely agree with the g70 as it's way to heavy to gig regularly with.

I love Roland products but this keyboard is crap! It smells still Medeli Chinese poor quality. Other brands have much better keyboard for this price en much better sounds. Rolands lost its energy in developing great arrangers such as they did in the 80s

I had to check, in case it was an April 1st release. What happened? It sounds worse than the stuff built in the 90s. How can this be with all the modelling synthesis and sample stuff we have today? Come on Roland, this one's a dudd for sure. Even Ed sounds doubtful about it.

Ed, I really respect you, but why? Why are you saying good things about this monstrosity? Superior sound? Power? This thing sounds like my washing machine when it’s having a bad day. And why? What is Roland doing? We are in 2022 and witnessing Korg releasing the Pa5X, Yamaha with the Genos and even Ketron with their Audya. Then Roland, our beloved brand, comes up with that?

Roland used to rule in this category and now there is nothing that compares to products from other brands. I just wanted to see a superior arranger from Roland.

My newest arranger keyboard is still a Yamaha PSR-295 but if I wanted something more up to date I would probably choose the 76 key version of the PSR-E473 ( which is actually not bad for a Yamaha keyboard under £1,000 ).
