Roland E4- Unlocked "Hidden" Feature - For $50 👀 

As someone else mentioned in the comments, provided you have an iPad with a usb-C port, all you need is a usb-C to usb-C cable, plug one end into the iPad t'other end into the E-4. Go into Menu mode. by holding the three main buttons, then press the Auto Pitch button until NIC.1 (Mic In) is displayed, exit the menu, by pressing the three buttons again and voila, the e-4 is now an effects box for the iPad, no need for expensive I-rigs and lots of messy cables.

Holy crap: like many others, I've ran to the store to buy additional cables and then I came to 9:45 of your video where you say "my advice is to leave in the quarter inch cable". I thought, what the hell, let's try it out: I took one of those 3.5 -> 6.35mm adapters and plugged it into the MIC IN port. I then adjusted my menu settings on the E-4 to force headphone port input (harmony button -> force) and suddenly everything started working! Thanks! My adapter only cost 7.99, so no big harm done, but this is amazingly poorly documented. You have to have a quarter inch cable plugged in to the other, MIC IN, port, for the headphone dual mic/audio out feature to work!

It’s why you have to use the cable that comes with your unit,some cable don’t carry midi,some that carry midi don’t carry sound and so on …. For example you have to use native instruments cables with their products,they carry power,midi and sounds

I think you just needed a USB-C to USB-C or to Lightning cable as the Aira Compact lineup has USB audio class compliant I/O.

The arturia microfreak added a vocoder feature by patching a mic / phone to the headphone out. They sell a gooseneck mic with the adapter built in. Im guessing that would work.... ive got the microfreak and E4 coming in a couple of days. Ill let you know if the microfreak mic works, it's a 3.5 headphone jack... yes it about the same price but at least you get a mic too. Ill let you know. I have tried other mics with the same plug and port. They wouldnt work but this port has clearly been engineered the same way. Maybe check with some people from arturia and ask them how the headphone/vocdoder in port works and what cable/adapter, more importantly.... why.

The cabling issue has caused me to consider the VT-4 with XLR input, and balanced 1/4" outputs. I realize I'll be missing scatter and loop. Can you think of any other reason not to? You can get it for $265. So the price of the E4 + irig2. I've noticed quite a few review videos where a bad static his is introduced when effects are applied on the unit. Have you had that experience?

I don't understand what's the problem in the first place? Why don't you use the in? Confused

I am so frustrated right now. I can’t figure out how to hook it up, I can’t run it directly to my ipad because I use a hub. I am almost in tears from frustration.

Just got mine today and am sending it right back, super dissapointed

maybe dumb question, but what's wrong with using the actual main input on a non-mic source? anyway, roland has a history of releasing abandonware. they didn't detail what standard of midi din adapter to use on these devices either, causing much confusion. verselab is classic roland abandonware. irig2 is a handy device, a good device to have in your bag. I use it on op-z for audio in/out at same time. they are available on the used market cheap quite readily as most people abandoned them once iphones lost audio jacks and went full lighting.

the irig 2, what is the cord that is hooked up to the computer to the irig 2. i have the e4 I needed to know what two cables that can hook up with logic pro i have. need help thank you.

I’ve been so frustrated with this device and can’t get any customer support. I really just want to use my keyboard (Roland fp-30) to do pitch/chord selection for the vocoder while singing in mic. Saw another RU-vidr do it and that’s why I bought it… I’m also trying to use my keyboard as a midi controller for the j-6. Very frustrating and I’ve bought so many chords. Sound will actually play from my j-6 through my piano speakers but not the other way around. NOTHING I do will work for pitch selection with E-4.
