Do you need a DAW? How powerful is Z-Core?
In this tutorial we are going to show you how you can import 2 samples and split them along the keyboard using only 2 partials of a single tone… in this way you have access to lots more polyphony…
We start by loading the samples into the USB memory, then we go to sampling and there we select keyboard sample edit. From there we access one of the menu and select import to get the 2 samples into the internal memory of the Fantom. Once that is done we can edit a tone and import the 2 samples one for each partial using the OSC PCM type of synth. We use one of the advanced feature of the pro editing to access the keyboard settings where you can select for each partial how they respond to keys and velocity including fading. Finally we take the opportunity to add some delay effects.
You can also set partials to respond to velocity as well, which is kind of cool…
Remember, there are 4 partials so in this case another 2 for 2 more samples or to overlay a different synth engine… super…

Any suggestions for a vintage turntable set up with fantom 6 for sampling albums? Connectors /cords?

Yes sure, i imagine you have 2 RCA cables coming out from the turntable, so you need to have adapters for those to go to 1/4 inch jacks. Once you have that you can connect them directly to a Fantom or if you prefer you can also have an audio interface for further adjustment in the middle but not necessary. That is the basic setup. Of course there are other details to consider…

The Fantom 0 doesn’t record vocals but samples. You can record a vocal performance as a sample and play it via the pad or keyboard. You can only assign one track to record and play the pad like the FA series, no improvements there. For short vocal performances you can record multiple samples and assign them to various tones using the PCM engine as done in the last tutorial and then record multiple tones. Just a workaround but not ideal… and limited… this is not like the Fantom G, they never managed to replicate what the Fantom G could do with 24 audio tracks… sadly…

What do you mean at 0:34-0:39? You say that you can't apply the same concept if you're sampling them as well. ?? Can't you sample two sounds from the input on the back, and then apply everything you mentioned in this video?

Amazing tutorials have been following you already some weeks! I’ve tried to install the Juno and the Jupiter 8 model expansion from the cloud but looks like it’s not available for the fantom 0 series (only for fantom) do you know if it’s possible? Big thanks!

@@soundformore hi, I have the “ultimate subscription” to the Roland cloud, so it allows me to download other things etc, I’m just having trouble with those model expansions 🥲

Apparently that is not enough now and Roland wants you to buy a lifetime licence for each of the model expansion if you have a Fantom 0, they are free if you have the big Fantom… same behaviour for me, I already raised it with Roland…

For the price and by today standards it is wrong and too small… not sure what Roland was thinking… it makes it like a home keyboard and not for professional / studio use…

This video is one year old. That means you started importing the samples one year ago. The Fantom is that slow they are probably still importing. They need to take a serious look at this function. Game changing update apparently inNovember 2023 after nearly two years without an update. We will see. Roland don’t give much for nothing compared to others.

You need to free up space… yes you can add effects to pad samples via the edit effects menu…

Do you know who has mutisample orchestra sound like saxophone, violin acustic guitar with nice nuances and articulation and use them as tone. I do not like the orchestra in the fantom by zen -core I love the saxophone and orchestra in the KORG

Yeh. Is not the same like korg@@soundformore Cheap sound orchestra no powerful. It's made with engine.

@jrf1962 well you are limited with Roland, that is why my Fantom 06 is collecting dust at the moment in favour of Korg and Yamaha and iPad… :) Roland have great ideas, but they are never finished properly and abandoned quickly… i still love my fantom G7 and I wished they continued its development or created a worthy successor. The sequencer in the new Fantoms is so inferior… and basic… the sampler is almost not existent compared to 24 tracks on the G line… but for today standard the sound of the G is now too old… oh well… if the Montage M was not so expensive I would have gone for it, at least with Yamaha I have 8 independent arps and more than 10000 arp presets …

Not really you need to use a usb stick… Roland has come out recently with a wireless adapter for their cloud storage but not for this keyboard yet… you can always try to,play them from your daw and record them in the Fantom 0 but that is not like transferring them…

@@soundformore Thanks so much for the reply, this offers some serious hope. What I want to do is build a basic track on the fantom and then record it ( the audio from the fantom 8 ) in Studio one. From there I want lay down vocal tracks In s1 and then once happy mix down the audio of the vocal arrangement and bring it back to the fantom. So getting the audio ( or midi) into Studio one is straightforward but getting audio back into the Fantom from S1 has me lost, and if I do succeed where does it go can it for instance go into one of the zones? Thanks again

The easier way to do that on the new Fantom is to export the vocal track and load it as a sample inside the Fantom. Then assign the sample to a pad and assign a track to play pads. If you synch the start of the pad with the rest of the other tracks bingo… there is also another way through the Zen-Core engine, but that requires splitting the vocals in multiple parts and use them as a multi-sample kind of preset
