Roland needs to hire a product naming strategist. It was bad enough when the Fantom 6/7/8 line came out and people thought you were talking about the G6/7/8 or X6/X7/X8, or even the original Fantom. But this product line adds yet another layer of confusion because saying "No, the new Fantom Seven" is now ambiguous. And if that's not bad enough, I just saw someone abbrevitate Fantom-07 in the comments as "FA-07", apparently unaware that there is already a Roland keyboard workstation with that exact name.
One of the best demo/walkthroughs I've seen In a long time. Calm voice , perfect pace going through features not too fast or slow , and not overly talkitive. This guy Is the example everyone needs to follow on here.
I couldn't have said it better. He seems to run through so many features, but never felt rushed or like he skipped through anything. He answered so many questions I had in just this one demo .
Hey Roland, why don't you put all the supernatural sounds from the Integra 7, including the supernatural drums? What kind of strategy is that my friends? Still relying on 30+ old sounds as the base of the keyboard, while other keyboards have had the new sounds. You remind me of Canon, that cripples their cameras on purpose just to distinguish them. Give your long standing clients what they want !
Greetings from Serbia, I own a fantom 06, you need to urgently work on the functionality for a faster live performance, changing scenes and chains is very slow, the combination with shift to change the scene page or the chain page is very useless, even more stupidity that you made the arrow and the button next to inc and dec have the same function, what's the use of that? one button could have been for scrolling one scene at a time and another for scrolling pages, you have created an operating system so that if someone has a set for a performance over 2 pages, it is very difficult to get to the desired color quickly, your ideas are not bad either but that's where it all stops, the most important thing about any keyboard is the handling speed, and unfortunately Korg still dominates here.
The “O” (Oh) series is the best value for money synth Roland have in 2022. The Juno-X, Jupiter X and Xm are way overpriced and don’t have as many features as the Baby Fantoms. The new Digital Juno and Jupiters should be no more than €1500. Well done Roland with the Fantom 0 synths. 🎹⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
While it has many features sounds demoed all were extremely old. From this demo it sounds like instrument for cover bands of 80's music (Madonna, OMD, Italo disco). I'm pretty sure Fantom_O has more under the hood sounds wise, though.
Two things I was hoping for: Velocity Sensitive Pads, and the ability to load in a sample loop and sync it to the tempo of the sequencer. My old Fantom X has these features...
The problems with this keyboard is its user sample memory which is mere 256 mb in 2023..Secondly, it's arp which can't be used separately for different parts...one type of arp can only be used for all parts in a scene/combi and third it's sampling editing capabilities which are limited.....
Vaaaaaaooooooo Vaaaaaaooooooo Roland Fantom 08 Very Very Very Excellent High quality All Sound and Material Very Very Very Beautiful Roland My love 😘😘😘😘😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely Fantabulous! Although I've thoroughly enjoyed the FA-06, this seems like the perfect remedy in terms of now being able to put together your song sections with ease - a big well done to all those involved!
It has been 10 years since the Roland Integra-7, yet Roland is still squeezing every last penny out of the SuperNATURAL gimmick. Every time I check Roland's new workstation, it still uses the exact same sound and doesn't even include all of it. Literally gives me no reason to buy a newer Roland product.
and the same 30-year-old samples to go with it, too Zen-Core is more capable than both the SNS and PCM engines in the Integra-7/FA put together, but SNA is unchanged and a separate thing altogether. O've picked up MC-707 (and I've got an FA-06) and I'm done with Roland. I might go for newer products when they start replacing the current Fantoms and other Zen-Core powered gear, or the generation of products after that if the next gen doesn't wind up different/improved enough.
This is what I've been waiting for from Roland. Just taken delivery today and I have to say, I'm really impressed... so much so that my RD2000 and Jupiter-XM are going to be looking for new homes now. Solid piece of kit, great sounding and most importantly, gig-friendly.
@@matthewhutchinson7366 no they are not the same. The Fantom does not have the vpiano from the RD2000. Although the Supernatural pianos In the Fantom I prefer over the RD2000. If you want purely a stage piano then RD2000 plays arguably better. But the Fantom has so many other benefits over the RD2000 for my use.
@@Jason75913 when I tried the FA08 many years ago, it didn't work for me. It was more workstatiom than piano. So then I went for the RD2000. Keybed action on the Fantom08 is pretty good now too, even compared to RD2000. Can't remember thinking that when I tried the FA08. But it doesn't really matter what I think, everyone needs to try out these boards for themselves to see which suits their needs. The RD2000 is up there for me as a great keybed action and VPiano is great too. However, the Fantom08 being lighter, still great sounding, decent keybed, many more features means the Fantom08 currently works best for me both on the road and in the studio. YMMV
@@foreverelton3633 Just to let you know, Fantom-08 revolves around "Studio Sets" just the same (Roland is calling them "Scenes" instead this time) and being a piano is a small fraction of the machine, also just the same.
That part at 14:30 regarding how the keyboard can quickly create a multisample based on a few imported waveforms is heavy. You can't do that on a Kronos; you CAN import multiple waves at once but you still have to manually set upper and lower pitch limits for each sample, name the multisample, and then Convert To Program. This is really impressive. I'm so glad that I decided to order an 07 as I needed a lightweight but capable keyboard with more than 61 keys.
me 5 min ago.. "I could use a new $400 midi controller that better integrates with Ableton"....me now ..."I CANNOT ACHIEVE MY DREAMS WITHOUT A FANTOM" - GAS is a bitch
it's annoying how they don't teach you to use it just show what it can do-- how do i find the organ page with the pipes ?? when i go to organ i don't see how i can control it all with the sliders. there is no step by step to navigate and the manual is not helpful
Nice work mate! A very thorough, interesting, practical and most importantly, musical demo. Also, it's great to hear a fellow Northerner on Roland :) I've been searching the web for an affordable synth/workhorse/sound source & I think I've found it in the Fantom O.
My 06 arrived yesterday, brilliant keyboard and sounds great, but I'm a bit disappointed the 4 classic model expansions that are free on the standard Fantom will set you back $600 for the set on the Fantom 0 series, that kinda puts the total near to the price of a good second hand standard Fantom, and above that of the Korg Nautilus with its classics in a far better built keyboard. Roland really need to rethink the price of the expansions in my opinion, they're just way too expensive at 150 bucks each.
I haven't looked at the current Fantoms, but I traded my old Fantom G7 for a Kronos 2/73 and I thought the Korg was built like a toy in comparison. I like the Korg pianos a lot better though.
Yes, I agree, its a little disappointing that none of the 4 models are included and its alot to ask for another $600. On a positive note though, it's great that we can tweak the existing tones so easily, so there's a good starting point with the included 3000+ tones. But not quite the same as having a Jupiter 8 emulation included though...
I have recently talked to a friend about how much I would like a more compact and lightweight FANTOM. Once again, just like with the introduction of the organ, Roland has read my mind. FANTOM-06 order has been placed ;D
those FA keyboards are getting old and they can't stick to the JV/Fantom-X synth engine forever, a midrange keyboard with Zen-Core was inevitable, now we're just missing a Zen-Core-based upgrade to the Juno-DS
Have they taken away the FA's linear sequencer in favour of the grid sequencer? Cause we want linear sequencing for our fantom 6's! If you need linear sequencing do not get a fantom -0 or fantom 6/7/8. I love my fantom but am forced to use an MPC to incorporate the Fantom into my larger set up.
Great tool to kill your back and neck. After spending 10 years with Kronos, I can say I'll never buy a keyboard without a tilted screen or hdmi output.
Most seem to be avoiding it now, especially at the low end. Makes you wonder which company has bought up the Hydrasynth tech now that ASM have sold it out.
@@ErraticFaith ASM have not sold the Hydrasynth keybed tech at all. They have said they will manufacture keybeds for other synth companies if they want it. Fatar also just came out with a polyphonic-aftertouch keybed (finally!!!), first use is in the new Waldolf Iridium keyboard version.. Plastic construction is kind of a given, since this is a cost saving exercise version of the flagship Fantoms. But actually Roland are really good at plastic chassis construction. Synths like the System-8 feel very solid, despite the fact they use it
Odd. Considering the current CEO of ASM told me personally that they have in our social media group. But you do you. I've no interest in further conversation here.
@@ErraticFaith Glen Darcey stated this in an interview on January 21st 2022 (video id and timestamp lS87txuayIc&t=2h29m40s ). I can only think you've misunderstood. They've also just put out 2 new versions of the Hydrasynth using an improvement on the keybed tech.. so it would be bizarre if they then suddenly "sold off" the tech to another company. Rather they are licensing it out, to other companies that want the keybed in their synth
Excellent product!!! TRANSPOSE function should be designed to be able to be accessed during LIVE setting though. Kurzweil k2700 has dedicated buttons for that. Yamaha had menu that can remain open to access it during live. I think Roland should add this feature as well.
Roland really is taking an ecosystem approach to music these days. I have been tempted buy some other brands but they are definitely evolving with zen core approach. 😃
This is amazing, i will buy it now. There will be compatibility in the future with MOTU Digital Performer, FL Studio and Steinberg Cubase? Can I connect a 15" touch screen to replace the one you have?
In regards to the model expansions is there a limit to how many can be loaded or active ? Can you load as many as there are parts / polyphony to be had ? Also will N/zyme be compatible and will it get the Zenology Pro expansion treatment as well ?
Maybe a stupid question, but when using the sequencer, playback always starts from the beginning. On a 64 measure pattern this can be really annoying - is there anything you can change so you can effectively pause playback rather than reset, particularly when editing in piano roll?
Hi Andy from Roland. Ypur videos are really helpful. You are very good at explaining things. I’m wondering if you do private lessons as I am looking to buy a fantom 08 and I’d really like to talk to someone like you who really understands the keyboards. I have a project in mind but am finding it very difficult to find all the information I need online. Would appreciate some advice if you could as I would love to be able to get the best out of it. Be happy to do a course if that’s what you recommend. Thanks
You guys should take the opportunity to create a groovebox version of Fantom, focused for beatmakers. I love classic and new generation Fantom. I would call it the Fantom Groove and do it as something similar to a verselab, but with all the controls on this Fantom 0 range, it's just an idea, a musician's dreamer. 🤩
Yamaha ditched linear sequencing, too. Korg is likely next, at least Krome EX and Kross2 still have linear sequencers, though the Krome will be the better experience. Those keyboards' successors will likely ditch linear sequencers, I fear. My FA-06 has a linear sequencer. I'll be keeping it for that, and numerous other reasons. Still, this Fantom-0 is great for anyone wanting to get a Roland keyboard and doesn't already have one.
This is literally the perfect bridge between my modular setup and the DAW! I cant wait to get one of these!! :D Throwing out my midi keyboard controller with pleasure
Alright! I've watched every Fantom O series video I can find and I've even done a session with the Roland rep, Josh Messamore, in Nashville. I'm extremely impressed with this machine but there is ONE thing that neither Josh or I have been able to learn. I want/NEED to be able to use the vocoder feature to perform choirs like the ones that Don Lewis has done - one voice, one choir. It surely must be possible, but if I buy one of these and I find out that I can't do this, I'm going to be REALLY disappointed with my purchase.
I bought the 08 recently, and haven't even begun to scratch the surface with this thing. The sounds are phenomenal, and the layering is deep and endless.
Can you make a power/speaker bar/block for the verselab so it becomes a great portable device. Where the lower part is for power and the higher part are the speakers if you can you click in the back or something close to that.
Finally, affordable for hobbyists that don't have $3K+ for Roland Fantom grade features. I can combine with my fully weighted 88 key controller too. A desktop/rack version would be a hit too for those who already have controllers.
Agree! I was seriously on the cusp of purchasing the Fantom 8, but wasn't excited about that price tag. This is much more reasonable for as you said, a Hobbyist synth and keyboard lover. Stoked to see what else this thing features but I have to admit that I am already kind of sold one it ;-P - Cheers!
Is the Vendor MIDI driver still a block for people that use Roland stuff with iPhone/iPads? I'd love to incorporate sounds from an iPhone/iPad (assigned to a zone and control it independently) while using the onboard sounds.
Pen drive Roland?! Why don't implement the sampling feature with the USB connection straight to the computer? Pen drive is so tedious and we are not in the 90's anymore!
Hey guys, I’m in need of serious help and really hope someone can help me: on the Fantom 06 I want to control the cutoff on Zone 1 which is a synth ARP running, but then I want to play Lead on another zone at the same time while I control zone 1 Cutoff with expression pedal. But it does not control the cutoff when deselecting Zone1 and trying to play lead on Zone 2, and I also can’t have both selected as this will just trigger both zone sounds. Any help would be much appreciated!
I guess activating both zones/parts and then filtering midi data should work. Set channel 1 (zone 1 according to messy Roland) to receive expression CC, while deactivate channel 2 from receiving expression CC. (parameter guide, page 16). Next, if note range of channel 1 doesn't overlap with notes of channel 2 job is done by limiting key range of channel 1 (parameter guide, page 11). Also you can limit key range of channel 2 (making a keyboard split). If notes overlap try to set upper and lower key range of channel 1 to most upper or lower note and see if Fantom transmits sequencer data from channel 1 (it definitely will not transmit keyboard data except that one note, but I'm not sure about already recorded midi events on channel 1).
Good ways Roland take with this new release of Fantoms model Series. It's a Little Bit Less Flagship than the Fantom-6-7-8 (Less Flagship (Painted) Surface, no After touch keys on the Fantom-07, no Synths Knobs section), limited to 2Gb, but excellent for this price range.
@@Rightly_Divided The Fantom 6 have many functions of more than the 06. You have access to all ZenCores banks. The 06, is limited to 2Gb and you have to paid an extra for have more patches.
There is one problem with this keyboard during scene change.. it’s not giving a seamlessly change as it should. Also in chain mode .. during live performance can’t change scene seamlessly on next beat an example: if we switch from strings to flute there will be a micro second latency and affect performance.. ( scene remain function doesn’t belong to this issue) I went at Roland store and explained this issue.. they are agree and let’s see what solution they find..
Looks great but I wish it had some basic audio tracking abilities too -- so you could record an entire song (including vocals, guitar, etc.) "in the box". Would be great for songwriting and demos. Need an antidote to DAW overload!
🤠 Roland wants you to buy the Verselab. These days lots of people record on their phones or webcams. If they want better audio quality they go through an audio interface. Use your phone as a portastudio.
"in the box" means with a PC, Fantom-0 will have USB audio like everything else Roland makes, or did you mean "out of the box"? It lacks a digital audio recorder like the Korg Kross2 has. You'll want to pair the Fantom-0 with an MPC One or at minimum a Tascam Portastudio or DR40X. There is also the Roland MV-1 Verselab.
100% AGREE...The Fantom's have gone Backwards imo...both my Fantom X and G have Audio Tracks...a "Workstation" is supposed to have EVERYTHING" IN ONE BOX...and NOT have to rely on add-ons like Laptops and ipads etc to become a "Workstation".
Definitely buying this one, as it seems more user friendly while being extremely dynamic for someone like me with experience in music but not so much with DAWs or workstations. Really good demo, looking forward to this over the Korg Kronos
Hello. Tell me what to do. Roland Rubiх 24. When recording in adobe audition while listening to the recording, crackling, noise. Although when listening to a recording in a simple player, there is no crackling or noise. Also, crackling and noise disappear if you change the driver from the original to asio all v2 in the settings.
Roland got rid of the D-Beam company. They had to license the product from them. Not many people use the D-Beam as they did back in the 90's and 2000's. So it became nothing more than a gimmick on Roland keyboards. The last keyboard with the D-Beam is the VR-730.
